Uli Jon Roth Concert
Uli Jon Roth Concert
Fri. May 12th

A large contingent of rockpagers went to this same venue last year and it was a blast. The bar is kinda set up a little like the Crowbar, but larger. You can get right up front if you want.
This time Uli has a full band backing him.

Hello Rockpagers,
I am a long time follower, first time poster to this site.
For anyone remotely interested in virtuosic musicianship, this is a must see. I attended the last show at Jaxx and, as Joe said, it was a blast. Uli was one of the most personable musicians I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Aside from the gypsy space muppet crushed velvet duds, he was quite the normal guy-unlike many of the "rock star" ego-driven maniacs I have met in the past who would gladly sell their soul for a tenth of the talent Uli has. Also, unlike many other "rock stars", Uli has never resorted to sucking the corporate cock for 15 mins. of fame. He takes his fans seriously-picking one of our group out from a show he had attended the previous year in Edinboro, Scotland. He was also cool enough to let me check out the Sky Guitar. If you haven't kept up w/ his career since the early Scorps days, all I can say is that as amazing as he was then, you'll be floored by how much better he is now.
Hope to see you there.

If anyone is interested (and will still be in the country), we should set up some kind of strategy for making the trip "caravan" style, that way we could all save on gas $, etc... I rode down w/ U.C. Joe, Ronnie D, and Steve Oswalt last time and the trip was definitely one to remember (monsoons, tornadoes, floods, trees in the middle of the road, etc.). J.P., if you can make it and get there early enough, I would bet the chances are pretty good for getting some kind of informal interview going that would be excellent for PA Musician (even if we are technically in Virginia). Any ideas?

Oh the trip back from the Uli concert was MUCH worse. It was biblical.YankeeRose wrote:"Monsoons...floods"?
Joe, those conditions sound VERY reminiscent of the trip back from Allman Brothers' concert.
When Gallowgalss said there was a tree in the middle of the road---he was not kidding. there was a mudslide and a tree, a rather large tree , upright, was smack dab in the middle of the road I live on. At 5:00 am, after a Uli Jon Roth concert, it almost seemed normal.
When we were coming back there were 2 tornados that touched down on Int. 95 right near the area where we were.
But these were just mere tornados, for we had just witnessed the supernova that is Uli.
And thank God Ronny D did not burn his great pair o' Strats, cus he is playing and sounding better than ever. The Uli effect.rocker x wrote:Ronny D after witnessing the fire of the Electric Sun!
Im going to go home and burn my guitars
Uli replies
No No No! Not meant to be destructive but constructive!

Ron,
I would sincerely love to. As of yet, we don't have any gigs booked. The only forseeable problem I have is schoolwork. Being a full-time dad, husband, student, guitar teacher, and part-time rock 'n roller has put a serious whup ass on my social life. I have a number of projects due next week that I have to get done before I can make a definite committment. I will try like hell to get a jump on things so that I might have some free time Sat. night. If I can, I'll show. If there isn't enough time for me to play w/ someone I'll just take in all the good music. I can't wait until this semester is OVER!

Ronny, the reason he is late on all of his school projects is that he wasted a whole weekend doing nothing but listen to the SantanaMaclaughlin tapes. They are attached to the post about the Led Zepplin bootleg post, and I agree it is some of the best music ever recorded.
Jason would call me every hour or so making sure I listened to Afro Blue.
As far as playing, if I show up with a giter, the quality of your show dies right there you know. I can play a few Allman Bros. songs and jam to some blues I guess. I could also get arrested if I try to sing.
