It's funny you should mention that. For years, I too, thought I was the only one who remembered Tony Saletan. I would ask people if they remembered the show, only to be met w/ blank stares. I would go into my little rendition of the song-"...Let's all sing a song today, a song today, a song today..." etc. -only to be met by more blank stares. My wife had begun to think that Tony Saletan was some construct I had created to compensate for my depraved childhood. I searched the 'net numerous times looking for Tony Sal U tan, thinking that was how you spelled it. On Fri. night, on a whim, I tried again. All of I sudden, I get one of those google "Did you mean Tony Sal E tan" messages. I was like "Fuck yeah, that's what I meant!" I spent the rest of the night e-mailing links to my doubting Thomas "friends" who thought I was nuts for all these years. I wish I had run into you years ago, at least my wife would have known I wasn't crazy. Sweet vindication!!

While we're on the subject of children's shows - You know what always bothered me: Mr. Mcfeely on Mr. Rogers. His name is Mr. McFeelly. And someone once pointed it out to me that he's also obsessed with "making speedy deliveries." I think that Mr. McF had a pimping business on the side. He could trick out all the girls on his mail route. That makes me wonder if the trolley was really the Ho-Train.

It's funny. I have a neighbor who looks like Lady Elaine. Though I always thought that Lady Elaine was a bit of a wench. But seriously, Fred Rogers was a great man who enhanced many children's lives. Everyone who ever met him in person said that it wasn't an act on his show; that is really his personality.

I agree. About 10 years ago they had this train ride at Idlewild that went through a reconstruction of Mr. Roger's make believe. I was 23 years old and when I went through it, it was like I was 5 again. Amazing.

That would have been awesome. I always liked the minature town at the beginning of the show too. I think my favorite episode was the one where he went and visited a concert pianist. Mr. Rogers had a lot of stuff doing with music on his show.

I'm sorry for interrupting the flow of this post again, but I just had to add that the episode of Mr. Rogers w/ the concert pianist was awesome. For many of us in that age group, I bet his shows were some of our first introductions to music. Let us also not forget that Handyman Joe Negri was layin' down some cool jazz guitar on those shows as well. Sorry. Proceed w/ post.

But I think the best children's show was Square One. I remember Math-Net. It was this cool bit where these two mathematician detectives would solve mysteries using math.

I never got into Bill Nye the Science Guy, though. I suppose he was a little bit after my time. He's defiantly an intelligent cat.

I used to watch it with my kids when I could...where I grew up, PBS reception wasn't very good - we're talking way before cable came through. One of my favs I've always remembered was when Lynn Swann visited the Neighborhood...I
suppose they did a lot of repeats...

MATH??? Ew. I liked watching Bill Nye with my kids, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?", too.

...and who can forget Geordi LaForge and "Reading Rainbow"...yeah, I know, he's LeVar Burton...but will he ever live that role down?

Actually, when I think of LeVar Burton, I think of Reading Rainbow. I guess that I was just never a Trekkie. Another cool reading show was Long Ago and Far Away. I really liked the vibe of that show.

Where in the World is Carmen San Diego was pretty cool too. I still remember that corny theme music. Wasn't the name of the house group called A Capella because they did everything as a four-part a capella?

I never watched all of the new Star Trek, only a few years. The original Star Trek, yeah, many times over. Some of them are actually very funny to view while any manner of "slightly toasted".

I can't place "Long Ago and Far Away", although it does sound familiar. I say it's safe to assume that's why "A Capella" was the name of the band on 'Carmen Sandiego'.
