Bag, you were lucky, verrrry lucky.
Most places close at 2, so if you got there at 12:50 or so, you downed 4 beers in an hour and 10 minutes and were working on the fifth. Don't get me wrong, I hate pigs and am happy for you're good luck, but WHEW! When I've imbibed, I usually have had that many alcoholic drinks all night, from 10-2, with soda and ice water in between...I can't imagine that many in just over an hour. I say just be happy with that good fortune and don't push your luck in the future.

Next time you're robbed, or your car is stolen, or your house is burgled, or somebody snatches one of your kids, who are you going to call?

I have an idea let's do away with the police! Every man for himself, baby. Me, I have enough guns, I'll just take whatever I want. It's a brilliant idea. Public safety is just a big myth anyway.

A child being abducted is one thing - and how many are safely returned? As for the others, all they'll do is give you a report to help with the insurance claim. I know someone who knew who'd wiped their house clean of antiques and the pigs did jack squat. All the pigs and the "system" care about is the money DUI generates, not the people...they don't care at all about lives being ruined by .08.

Hell yeah, I wish I owned a gun, I'd feel a lot safer in this one pig town...if something goes down here, hopefully he's on duty. I didn't even bother reporting my son's bike being stolen, for what? All he's good for is harrassing young people for "loitering". A neighbor heard and then saw someone trying to get into their house and called 911...when did he show up? The next afternoon. She believed it was a very confused drunk dude walking home who must have thought it was his house and thankfully he was convinced to leave the premises...through the closed door.

Edit: Feral, "hate" is too strong of a word, but I find it shorter than "greatly dislike". Growing up, I greatly disliked local pigs in the town I grew up a few miles from...TOTAL assholes. At one time I used to respect our state police, as I thought they were "different". That was until I realized through my own ordeal, and a friend's repeated ordeals with them, they are truly PIGS. When I questioned them about a law they should have enforced - when I found out about it - they asked me if I'd really have wanted to stay there for up to 14, or is it 15 days. Sleeping in my own bed or on my own couch, and especially my soon to be 6 year old son sleeping in his own bed, while I found a place to live and packed our belongings? Call me INSANE, but yes, I'd have preferred that as opposed to staying in homeless shelters. The first few nights I held my son until he fell asleep as he sobbed his heart out because his little mind couldn't understand no matter how I tried to explain, why he couldn't go "home and sleep in my bed", with Tiger, his cat. Talk about feeling helpless and devastated because you don't know how to help your child! Until who I feel was the literal answer to a prayer and once total stranger, who I call my Angel from Philipsburg, took my son and I into her home for a month or so. Because she lived a hell of a lot closer than any of the shelters, my son was able to attend scheduled Summer Camp at his school, T-Ball and swimming lessons and in addition to all of that, I was able to find a decent apartment. My daughter was staying in State College, attending the 6 week Upward Bound Summer program, so thankfully she didn't have to stay in any shelters. Due to that ordeal, let alone what happened a short time later, I have no use for the "system" and PIGS, what so ever. I do have an even greater understanding and appreciation than I did before, for people from all walks of life. It was one HELL of a way to became a better person.

Why do you greatly dislike PIGS? :)

I'm glad you didn't get busted or anything... but seriously when you seen that many cops on your way to a bar - the thought didn't cross your mind of "I better not drink tonight?" Ya know you could have just went, caught the last set of your favorite band, and got a six pack to go. Hell, like you said you only live 8 miles down the road... surely you could have sucked down some soda and waited till you got home to drink the beer. Personally I don't think I would have chanced it, but that just me! You were LUCKY! :P

I can't believe the attitude toward law enforcement on this thread. News flash: police officer = worst job in the world.

As has been said, they're just doing their jobs. I got a DUI in 1997 and guess what? I was drunk. Only .104, but legally drunk. Busted.

Don't like police officers? Don't break the law. Bag was under .08, so he wasn't breaking the law but if he was .15 or higher, it would've been different. The cool thing about this incident is, I'm sure it's made him think about the bull$hit he would've had to deal with had he been arrested and maybe he'll be more careful next time.

Bottom line: If you decide to break the law, be prepared to accept the consequences if you're caught. Don’t blame the cops for doing their jobs.

BadDazeRob, can it be you haven't heard - the legal limit was lowered to .08, possibly last year or the year before. Sheesh, I don't even recall when it was .14, last I knew it had been .10 for many years. ...or has it changed and been raised and I simply didn't learn of it?

I tend to agree with BDRob. The police can only work within the parameters of the law. They too have rules and regs. to follow. The laws don't permit them to do their job as they would like to. Granted there are some big headed cops that give the rest a bad reputation, but most off them are sincere. I am glad that everything worked out for you Bag. In the past I too, as well as most likely most of us on here, have done something that isn't very smart such as driven under the influence and I don't do it anymore. Never got caugt but I see the pain it causes people.Just isn't worth it. One of my cousins(18 years old) was killed years ago by a drunk driver and my Aunt and Uncle were never the same. She was an awesome musician and vocalist and never got to shine. But don't blame the cops. It's the laws that are fucked up. We always vent on lawyers too, which are not my favorite people, but as long as they work within the laws that allow them to do their job, what can we do. The laws need changed. So pick up a pen or type a letter to your Representatives and use your voice positively. Brian

Glad you didn't get busted, but I agree with BDRob. Can we please leave the cops alone. I know there are some who are an ass, just like every other profession out there. It is the person not the job. I respect and appreciate police officers greatly for what they do. They get paid little and get even less respect, as evidenced by this thread. I have needed the police and they were very helpful and respectful....but maybe that's because I was respectful toward them.

Nobody was ever more respectful of state troopers than I used to be. I'd even given the joke in this town the benefit of the doubt for the longest time, until he proved
he was like the local pigs I was used to. Just get screwed over by the local and state pigs like I and others have been, and all those singing their praises will shortly be singing a different tune. The truth will NOT set you free, only lots of cash for the best slimeball attorney possibly will. Savage Heart, you are the among the minority of people I've ever heard from who when you needed them, they actually helped you or did the right, lawful thing.

I understand others point of view on DUI and I actually share it, drunk driving has caused many unnecessary tragedies - let's save the busts for the ones we know who get drunk out of their gourds and still insist on driving, getting violent when you try to convince them otherwise.
There are plenty of responsible imbibers, who if the limit had not been lowered, their lives wouldn't be enmeshed in the mess they are now. Once they had one DUI, it's almost as if they've watched for them, as they were quickly nabbed again and lost their licenses...these are people who I've never seen appear drunk, with any of the normal signs that indicate a person is drunk. Also, I think it's wrong that if a person realizes they've had too much and are pulled safely off the road somewhere, even in a parking lot, if the keys are in the vehicle, that is a DUI. Before anyone asks, no, I've never even been convicted of speeding (The cop didn't show to the hearing - only one. :)), let alone had a DUI.

Rob is absolutely right. I wouldn't want to be a cop, and I do consider this a "wake up" call. I'll say it again, I was lucky and have no ill will towards the police.

Onegun's post really makes me wonder now though. I HAVE a CDL license. I can believe that I got a break on the open beer, but how in the hell did I pass the breathalizer? :? Maybe it pays to be 6'2" - 250.

Just curious. Is that in any vehicle, or only in a vehicle that requires a CDL license?

Well congrats on gettin away clean. Stupid as it was. I am no saint though and have been lucky MORE than once.

Now it is one an hr. for me, and I'm probably pushing it with that.

I got a DUI a week after I turned 21 in 1994. I blew a 217. Very impressive I know :D I didn't wine about it. I fucked up.

Now for the cop bashing- People who choose to break the law, seem to be the only people who don't like cops. Thats fine, but remember that you represent a group of people that the majority of society could care less about.

To be a cop takes more personality, patience, and BRAINS than most of the people on this planet have. There might be a few bad apples but for the most part they are all family oriented, educated VERY PATIENT people who work WAY to many hours for WAY to little pay.

Yankee sorry about your cop problems but cops have to follow rules and the only way to change things is to change laws. Criminals have the luxury of following NO rules. Cops get FIRED for breaking rules.

And a Cop not showing up for a traffic citation hearing is just that particular cop being nice to you.

Everyone hates cops TIL THEY NEED ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When my youngest brother was a senior at PSU, he knew he was too drunk to drive home from the bar. So he just put the seat back and slept in the parking lot.

The State College cops awoke him the next am, and since the keys were in the ignition and he was sitting (sleeping) in the front drivers seat, he was given a DUI.

It cost him over $1500 to get insurance for 6 months just to graduate and get outa there.

I know it sounds unfair, but you can't blame the cops, it was the law. I think that is a state law.

If you ever decide to sleep it off in your car (which is a very good idea), make sure you are not sitting in the drivers seat. If anyone who knows this law, please correct me if it not still that way.

Keys in the ignition — might as well put up a sign that says, "please bust me." It's the law. If the keys are in place, you've made a move toward operating the vehicle.

Sitting in the driver's seat — not sure if that's against the law, but it probably would not be a bad idea to sleep in another seat.

Best advice for sleeping it off in the car — lay down in the back and make sure those keys are not on you or in the ignition. Having possession of the keys implies intent to use them. Put them on the floor or under a seat to be extra safe.

sittin in the drivers seat is OK if keys aren't in the ignition. Still a public drunk offence though.

The key law seems a little much til you stop and think about it.

MOST vehicles CANNOT be shifted out of park unless the key is in the ignition. And most vehicle steering wheels are locked until the keys are in the ignition, chances are your car won't go very far with the wheel locked at any position. Your engine doesn't need to be running for your car to move in any gear, and the key in the ignition is one step closer to movement. Outlandish yes, but there must be some example of this happening for it to matter so much.

Pigs? Sounds like a Charles Manson-ism.

I haven't heard anybody use that term since the mid 70s.

I thought "pigs" died with "groovy".

Dude don't you watch the "Dukes of Hazard"?

You should a put the pedal down, tore thru a corn field, flew over a barn and down some back road at which point you coulda jumped a river and lost em.

Just Jokin' Bo, I mean Bag....

I hate to be somewhere enjoying myself and have to drive home. I usually sallow my pride and ask the wife to drive. I think she likes it when I am smart like that.

I've slept in the truck a few times also when alone. Dam those seat belts dig into the ribs. But, better than a crash or DUI.
