i just read about that on a message board on creedfeed.com . . . This dude is ridiculous anymore, i cant believe i ever respected stapp as a musician. The music was good, but the lead singer was an asshole. And, listening to the 2 albums side by side, you can see who was the true talent of the band.

My perception has always been that:


a.) The Lyrics of Creed's songs are Spiritual, not "religious" - there IS a difference.



b.) His Father is a Baptist minister I think, and a total jerk. From what I'd read back in '99, and my recollection from what I read back then could be wrong - Stapp hasn't been doing what his Father thought was proper ever since he was a teenager.



c.) Whoever produced and directed the few Creed Videos I ever saw,
the "powers that be", not Stapp, tried to portray him as "holier than thou" - he's never tried to be that way. So what if he has a Cross tatoo? I know! Think of it as "a separation of church and Stapp".



Of course, these have been my perceptions - I might be totally mistaken about him and he could be the biggest hypocrite in the world.

Anyway, yes, stapps dad was a minister and a dentist. He was also a jerk. Thats why stapp ran away from home while he was so young, and eventually met Tremonti and the others and formed creed. Now, i didnt have many influences to become a musician, and it kinda hurts to see someone that i liked so much as a musician turn heel and become an all-american asshole, but thats life. As i said before, Mark Tremonti was the major reason creed became a sucess, he wrote the lyrics for 90% of their songs, if you didnt know that. Stapp could never give an honest answer to what any creed song was about and instead used the "I want everyone to have their own meaning" line, he wouldnt even answer if you asked him what they meant to him. Compare the Alter Bridge lyrics to Creed, you will find that most of them are very similar. Now, compare Creeds lyrics to Scott Stapps solo albums lyrics, and you will find that the writing is extremely different.

Tremonti made creed, anyone whos seen tremonti play live will know this.
