Bands in the top 10
Bands in the top 10
I dont know about everyone else but dont you think it's ridiculous that some (not all) of the bands in the top 10 are definately pumping up their counter. Now granted my band doesnt get nearly enough hits to compete but it always seems like there is a race within the top 10 to see who is the best cheater. Does anyone agree with me or am I all alone in this?
Peace

This topic came up last year, and Ron changed the counters to make it very difficult, if not impossible, to "pump up" the counter. At any rate, it's all about promotion, and the more people that visit your site, the better. Odds are that if your band is in the top 10 on the front page, first-time visitors may check out your band site, and therefore check out your band.

I myself could care less. BUT... it is cool to see bands like OGS, TFS, and HOC always near the top. NO DISRESPECT to the other bands, I myself am really crazy about promoting this area's original music. Once again NO DISRESPECT intended to HF1 or Scream or any other local music groups. You all have my support and respect.
Stats mean shit to me.

Much respect right back atcha, Killjingle!
Promotion is promotion is promotion, and it's really kind of a sad thing when it's so hard for original bands to get good promotion. Speaking as a member of Scream, we work our asses off to promote the hell out of our band. We run an ad in PA Musician Magazine every month, we have our own website, our site here on Rockpage, we take out a newspaper ad in the local paper of whatever town we're playing in when we play, we flyer cars, give out stickers, etc. Promotion is work, and it all pays off in the end. All the bands in the top 10 have worked their asses off to get their fans to check them out here on Rockpage. Instead of complaining, maybe other bands should do the work too. (Not saying that to be mean, just stating a fact.)
I enjoy the mix of bands in the top 10, there's a good cross-section of music in the region! Original and cover, it's all good. Remember, kids, every cover song is an original song somwhere down the line, LOL.

its cool...
just understand what it takes to get into those rankings...
I was there with a past band for months upon months; but in the end its all bout what makes you tick... if its that important: PROMOTE
if it aint, then just relax and play good tunes

I don't see what the big deal about the top ten most visited bands is. Only 2 of us from "SOUND OF SILENCE" post on here and I've noticed sometimes the more ya post the more ya get people looking here to get to your Official Home Page. Like Toona said " promotion" that's all, plain and simple. I usually hit alot of other band's pages more so than our own. My wife is always try'n to find bands to play, so in turn I help her out and the bands here by look'n through the pages as much as I can. You can't keep hitting any one band page to jack up the hit count, it can't be done, we went through all of this last year. I know "SOUND OF SILENCE" promotes the shit out of Rockpage at our shows and lets people know about how to find all their favorite bands and ones they may not have heard about yet. I guess when I really think about it, it is pretty cool that people check ya out enough to be in the top ten and it's a honor to have fans who do that for us. Thanx to all who stop by our page !
One more time for promotion sake that's "SOUND OF SILENCE" check us out !

A person is getting along the road to wisdom when they begin to realize that their opinion is just another opinion !
I can't say much more than what Kevin and Jason said...I totally agree..2 of our band members have a computer...(not counting past member)..The others aren't even members on here...Like they said "Promotion is the key"...We prob. mention Rockpage 2-3 times every show,,,and if it wasn't for Randy Wilson when "Blackout" was togeather(now from "Bad Daze") we would have never even heard of it....I know for a fact ,I've seen alot of GREAT bands that aren't on the top 10 and being on the top 10 don't make you the best 10...Hell there are "ALOT" of great Pa. bands that don't even have a page on here!!....One thing you have to look at is the bands homepage....If they get alot of hits there...they'll get alot here. I have to admit I click on everyone else as much as ours...I only get the hit when I update...which is another key"promotion"....if you update often people will look to see whats new.. I can't think that some look everyday at the same page over and over if nothing is new.....But when you update ,they are the first bands on the list when you click on the "Bands" page....
Hope this is some help, Best of Luck to you guys!

I seldom ever look at the counter, although last month I was surprised to see .OO Buck on there. I guarantee we don't pump anything up... I'm too lazy, and Tim's too busy. We just seem to have a good buzz about this band.
You also have to figure that this is a mostly musician site, and that most of those musicians have gigs of their own, so they can't come check you out. They just want to know what you're up to. ------>JMS

Our Rockpage page is set as my home page on my browser so I get one click a day. The site even recognizes my IP at work so I only get one tick a day even if I hit the page at home and at work.
Thing is, and it's already been said, people who visit this site are more apt to click one of those "top ten" sites than others so I take my 30 ticks a month, but that's all I personally get. Other people gotta hit it to keep it on the top ten. If we fall off, then someone's doing a better job at promotion than we are. No harm, no foul. I don't consider us "one of the top ten bands in the area" because we've been on that list every month for the past 2 1/2 years.
It's exposure, promotion, marketing, whatever you want to call it. You can't attract attention to your band by hiding under a rock.

You know, back in the day before automated counters and IP registrations on websites - it was possible for somebody to just hit the "refresh" button on the tool bar or ctrl+r to refresh their site and get hits constantly - thus if somebody did this 10, 15 times a minute - they would register 10, 15 different hits, and their counters would inflate immensely..
even further back in the day, before the internet.. bands had to actually step outside and hand out flyers, or even worse.. speak to people about their band, and upcoming performances, and the like.. i can only imagine what those stone age days were like, before we were graced with the internet..
all that information has made me pretty thirsty.. anything to drink?
