Mike Holmgren
Mike Holmgren
At the Seattle welcome home pep rally Monday, Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren told the huge crowd he knew Pittsburgh would be a big challenge but he didn't know they would have to play against the Steelers and the refs, too. The comments inspired cheers from the fans and the team members in attendance.
Is this the right thing for someone in his position to say, regardless of your opinions on the SB XL officiating?
Discuss.

I can't wait to hear all the Squealer fans bitch about this, a couple weeks after they were listening to Joey Porter whine about the Indy officials and saying "Yeah! He's right!"
Mike and Mike on ESPN radio have been talking about this all morning. I don't like to hear people complaining about the officiating - even though there were some terrible calls in the Super Bowl, the Polamalu interception was obviously a catch, and so on. There are always PLENTY of things that cause a team to lose a game. Remember, when you point the finger at someone else, three fingers point back at you.

Now before I even say this dont get mad because I am a true Steelers fan but I was watching David Letterman last night and they had Big Ben on there. Someone from the crowd asked the Question to him (Do you think you made that touchdown, do you think you was really in) And Ben said " To be honest no I dont think I was and laughed". Personally I couldn't really tell myself, I dont think he did either, but all that matters is they one.

My position is, I agree with Stephen A. Smith on the show "Quite Frankly." There is no question that officiating in the NFL — especially during this year's post season — is horrendous. The solution is to take some of that money the league gets from multi-billion dollar network deals and so on to hire FULL-TIME OFFICIALS.
Most of these guys do it as a hobby and there's no way to punish them for sucking. They can't be fined. All they can do is take away officiating opportunities in the future. At that point, the game's already over and any potential damage is already done.
As for Holmgren, I think a coach who is being held up to the level of "headed for Canton" should reserve the remarks he made at that podium in front of thousands (and in front of the general TV viewing public) for the dinner table in the privacy of his own home.
No one's ever acussed Joey Porter of being classy. He's a mean, nasty linebacker who knocks people's heads off for a living (and he does a fine job of it, IMHO). Mike Holmgren is an "annointed" head coach who people expect to go to the Hall, and I think his comments made him look stupid, extremely classless and, as ImFedUp said, like a big-time sore loser.
Look to Mike Shanahan and there's a coach who knows how to lose with grace and class.
PS: J Micheals ... "Squealers" = WORLD CHAMPS, BIATCH!!!!

Yeah Yeah Yeah, blame their lack of skill on the refs. It's not the refs fault that Willie Parker ran 75 yards for a Touchdown, the defense let that one happen and it's not the refs fault that Randel El threw a touch down to Ward, the defense let that one happen too and I'm sure they knew it would be coming. But how many times were they down close enough to do something and blew it. Awwwwwwww too bad.
As for Holmgren, I think that for someone in his position, he should have definitely not made the comments. Just doesn't look good on his part.
The better team won. Put your big boy panties on and deal with it

The big difference is that despite the bad calls, Pittsburgh beat the odds and won.J Michaels wrote:I can't wait to hear all the Squealer fans bitch about this, a couple weeks after they were listening to Joey Porter whine about the Indy officials and saying "Yeah! He's right!"

Seattle did not.
Besides, things tend to even out. Seattle should have been called back inside their own 40 on the 76 yard interception return for a blatant illegal block in the back to Rothliesberger.
Chances are, they would not have scored their only TD from there.

It'll just make next year even sweeter when the Browns beat the defending world champs TWICE! HA!
And if you're not down with that - I GOT TWO WORDS FOR YA!!!!
(ah, yes - anyone else remember D-Generation X?) lol

You better call me a doctor - feelin' no pain!
Straight up! We have more official apologies than any other NFL team...
Yeah it sucks to deal with it in the Super Bowl, but it is part of the game!
Bottom line Steelers won!!! Maybe if the Seahawks could get those three
point field goals (no penalty) it would be a different story. Not the best
performance by the Steel, but a win!!!!!!!!!

I made another post about this on the other one. There are always points in a game that determine it outside of what doesn't go your way. What about Darrell Jackson not able to get his feet in? Jeramy Stevens dropping the ball many times? The reffing was not good but, as Seattle announcer Hugh Millen stated Monday, the game almost always ends the way it's supposed to. For every call you cry about there is a place where you need to look at something you missed that would have made the bad call not matter.
And Holmgren is showing no class whatsoever. I would hope that Bill Cowher wouldn't go that far but, who's to say when that much is on the line. And Seattle had better enjoy this because they won't even be the best team in the NFC next year.
