Hey this is a question for DJs, basically Im looking to get some information before I decide whether or not I want to try doing something..
How do bands go about having radio stations give tickets away to upcoming shows? Do Radio stations buy the tickets, and give them away, or do bands have to pay a radio station to sell them or what, reason Im asking.. we (Eyes of Anguish) have a show at the Trocadero theatre in Philadelphia in 2 weeks, and we'd like to sell some tickets to a radio station, for an on-air give away, to perhaps add some publicity or whatnot, which may add to more ticket sales, but Im not sure how this is done.
If any of you, like JP or ToonaRockGuy can help me with this issue, i'd appreciate it. Thanks
Question for you Radio DJ's.

A lot of times, we (meaning on-air personalities) have nothing to do with ticket giveaways. The sales department procures tix for us to give away for events, usually in conjunction with an ad buy.
Your best bet is to call up a radio station and find out how much they charge for commercials, then offer some free tickets in a partial trade for some free advertising. It can usually be worked out somehow.
But I can tell you that in radio, nothing comes free.
