No Surrender: need your opinion

You seem to be a knowledgeable guy, so I wanted your opinion on this:
I just bought a S&W 1911PD, the commander-length model with the scandium alloy frame. This will be my carry gun, and I need to pick a carry round.

Normally, from a .45 ACP 1911 platform, I'd stick to the "flying ashtray" Speer Gold Dot 230gr hollow point, or the Winchester Ranger T, which, while a law enforcement-only round, I have access to. However, with the shorter barrel of the commander-sized pistol, I thought that perhaps a lighter round would be better, possibly the 185gr Gold Dot.

Then again, some of the lighter round utilize a slower-buring powder, which may not completely burn from a shorter barrel, so it might be best to stick with a heavy round. I think I could still have decent velocity from the 4.25" barrel, and the 230gr round will probably get good expansion.

What do you think?

Just to keep this music-related, I am cleaning my new pistol while listening to Waylon Jennings, and Jon Wayne's "Mr. Egyptian" on repeat in the CD player.

Wow, Blain! I know you were talking specifically to no surrender, but I had to let you know, your new gun sounds AWESOME! I love guns! Guns are bad ass! You, talking intelligently and commandingly about guns, totally excited me! Seriously, guns are great. Not only are they practical, and handy for self-defense, survival, and hunting, they are also a lot of fun! Target shooting is a blast! While video games with lots of shooting are a lot of fun too, nothing beats the kick of a real gun! Right on, and congrats on your new purchase!

Hey, to follow suit and keep it music-related...what song titles/lyrics/band names can you think of that are about/ involve in some way GUNS? Like Janie's Got A Gun...and Guns-n-Roses....

I used to have a .38 Special and I always liked Hollowpoints, so that would be my choice. They were illegal in PA at the time, but I'd had access to them in VA.

I'd go with the 230-grain for sheer stopping power... with the short barrel, the 185 gr. might shoot a little flatter, but carry guns don't need to be long-range accurate, they need to punch big holes. The hollow-point expansion takes care of that.
Personally, I'd never carry a hog-leg like that. It's enormous to attempt to conceal, and wakes up the whole neighborhood when it goes off. Give me a little .25, you can hide it in your buttcrack, and pippity-pip, the guy's full of neat little holes and HE doesn't even hear it.
That said, I'm temporarily not allowed to carry, but I wouldn't sneak up on me, if I were you. ---->JMS

I use 185 gr. in my Smith SW40VE. 15 in a clip so it dosen't matter what round.
Hit something with 15 of anything and it'll stop moving.

I use 22LR hollow points for backup pistol. yes .00 silent and deadly.

Now on a musical note I am currently enjoying a new set of Ernie Ball Extra Slinkys on my Strat. with a few drops of Dr. Ducks AXWAX and STRING JUICE. Action is awesome and if I crank up the amp no need for firearms :D

I hear ya songsmith ! I own a few hand guns but my baby is my
Colt Anaconda 44 mag. Realtree Editon which is all camo, a scope for added badassness and improved accuracy, and a 9'' barrel oooooooh yeah that's one bad mother I'll tell ya ! I prefer to use the Glasser Safety Slugs for protection if need be. They have over 300 fragments of lead in the plastic tip and will not penatrate through the whole way, they more or less explode on impact and they are also the choice of Air Marshalls for use in planes for that reason, a very wicked round. For werewolves I prefer 240 gr. ,silver tipped hollow points for obvious reasons of course. I mainly bought it for hunting deer but, it would serve well for those other reasons too I guess. It is the most expensive gun I ever bought 1300 smackers and well worth every penny. I use my 380 semi auto when I'm along the creek fish'n and even took out a Copperhead last year! It's way cheaper to shoot than the Mag and not to mention a lot lighter to carry and easier to conceal .

Taurus Tracker .357 Magnum, which has a 7 bullet cylinder. I also like the Speer Gold Dot hollow points. I do like autos, but when you know there can be no doubt in your mind for safety, give me the revolver.

Backup is a TZ 75, 9mm with a 15 capacity clip, with 1 in the chamber.

Just to be completely redundantly safe, there is the 9" partially serrated SOG Tighershark, same as the SOG Seal knife, just 2 inches longer and slightly thicker.

Just for shits and giggles is the 20" Paul Chen practiacal Wakishashi, razor blade sharp.

I haven't blasted the crap out of anything in way too long. I wasn't too shabby at it either, much to someone's chagrin. You'd think he would have been proud of me, but nooooo!

I've always shot in the boonies, or sticks, as you call it, too.

The Wakishashi (at 20" blade) is the shorter companion to the Katana which is usually about 36", and the tanto is the smallest (about 11 or 12") of the 3 swords a Japanese warrior or Samurai usually carried.

Look up Paul Chen. He makes some of the best and still affordable swords and knifes anywhere.
