Great White Manager Takes The Fall...

Post by ToonaRockGuy »

From the AP:

"A judge in Rhode Island says the former manager of the...band Great White has agreed to plead guilty to 100 counts of manslaughter stemming from a deadly nightclub fire."

Wow. One man taking the fall for the actions of many? I'm interested to hear the thoughts and comments from other Rockpagers on this topic. We had a large thread on this subject when the original tragedy happened.
Dood...

Sheesh, that must have took some serious balls ! There is no way that any one person was responsible for that awful night , many people are to blame in my opinion ! Why in the world would he feel he had to take all of the blame is beyond me. :?

100 counts, God , if they wouldn't sentence you to death for that I would be amazed .

I tend to agree with RAM Z that there was plenty of blame to go around. As the person in charge of the show itself, the buck stops with Great White's manager; but the club owners should also get some blame for allowing pyrotechnics to be used in their facility, particularly if they were aware of flammable substances being used in the building materials or insulation.

A question: How many of you still check for fire exits when you go to venues two years after this disaster? Most area venues I'm well familiar with; but if I enter a new room, I try to take note of where the doors are, just in case.

You know J.P. it's funny you ask about checking to make sure where the exits are and how many cause I'm a real nut about stuff like that and I do take note of these things almost automaticly any more and not just because of the RI tragedy . Fire is a very scary thought in a building full of people and I always wanna be ready if it would happen .

Pray those club owners get theirs as well. They willingly overbooked the place (not just on that night but pretty much for every big show). They allowed Pryo there before too on many occasions. I was in tears watching it unfold on the news. We lost 100 of our own that night over somebody's carelessness.

f.sciarrillo: Bottom line. the buck stops with the tour manager. It's his job to make sure everything is done correctly and to standards. It's what he's paid to do. Besides... Jack Russell has to live with knowing a senseless act of carelessness caused the deaths of many of his fans and one of his guitar players. That is more of a sentence than any judge could ever hand down. The burden of pain that man carries is unfathomable.
The person below me enjoys a good spanking.

This statement (now that I can read it, thanks to the translation, CG) contradicts everything you've ever said ...

The only thing that's more sad than Great White always being known now for burning down a club is that Great White will always be known for that Ian Hunter cover, when in fact, their originals kicked total ass.
