Maybe he learned a lesson that would save his life.

Say a wise ass kid like this would think it would be cool to do the same thing in a mill workers bar in the Mon valley. What do you think those animals would do to him?? I think throwing paper at him would be the last of his worries.

I have written and rewritten this post so many times from so many angles that I lost count.

This incident was wrong for so many reasons on so many levels that I cannot believe what is posted here.

Take a refresher listening to Another Brick In The Wall and then stop to ponder why shit like Columbine happens.

This would be the kid whose lunch money i would take every day, and stuff him in a locker. Believe me, i know humiliation from teachers...Most of it is to teach you a lesson.

My typing teacher in high school used to make us do push ups in front of class if we looked at our typewriter while we were typing a paper.

Now, there is humiliation, then there are harmless jokes. This lesson partained to the whole class. The kid was something different for the day. It was a learning experience, showing him how people who he might have picked on for being different felt.

There were 3 times as many Posts and many more than double the current views at the time I made my Post on this Thread...I realize I'm just being fartsy and whiney, but IMO when the "same exact" Topic is Posted numerous times, it's annoying. However, I suppose that's just me. Sorry. ...and by the way, you're wrong, the other one was first. I can dig it. :D

uhh maybe the kid actually likes the broncos, and he should be able to express his right to free speech without fear of public humiliation at the hands of a teacher that should know better and be above all this and set good examples to our youngins.

there's a thread on this board now asking why our youth are so disrespectful.
which by the way, all you are applauding right now.

No, kids are disrespectful today because mommy and daddy use time out, and not knock out. When i was younger, if i did something bad, i got my ass whooped. My parents were nice, but firm. I told my mom one time after she smacked my ass that i was gonna call a child abuse agency, and she dialed the phone. But, at the same time, when i needed something, i got what i needed, and i got treated nicely. Kids today want everything NOW!

Hopefully, no one in here falls into the category of people who pamper their children no matter what they do wrong. That is what inspires kids to think that they are above the law. A firm ass beating never hurt anyone, but not giving proper punishment to little bastards who deserve it will hurt a lot of people.

I don't know how this kid acted in school. But, you have to understand, that class was about ETHNICITY...that could have happened if any of those kids would have walked into that class with a broncos shirt, or Indianapolis shirt for that matter. The teacher shouldnt have done it to the extent that he did, but at the same time, what if that little lesson hadnt been taught, what if that kid is a closet racist, or something like that? That class is designed to teach equality among people. He thought he was singled out but he was being used as an example, to show people how shitty it feels to be treated differently than everyone else.

Why did you morph the Democrat Poster Boy onto that kid with big enough balls to wear a broncos jersey to a Steeler-loving appalachin PA high school?

Ethnicity class is a bullshit feelgood left wing pinko faggot concept that should be barred by every school board in the state because the parents should be breathing down their neck on election years.

Yes, I recently watched an All In The Family Marathon.

I agree, but I also feel that phys. ed. is a pointless class. Of course, a lot of people would disagree with me on that.

On a related subject, I remember my college freshman composition class. We would write rough drafts of our paper and then peer-review them with each other. I HATED the days we did that just because majority of the stuff I had to read was garbage. I'm not talking about the occasional hanging-modifier or misspelled word. I'm talking about a grammatical nightmare. These kids couldn't even put together full sentences with a subject and predicate. What are they teaching kids?

Then again, education is meaningless in this area as long as you have the right last name. Nepotism: The most important factor in the hiring process.

in my opinion, this could be looked at from both sides of the spectrum...

The teacher probably made a mistake in going as far as to having the kids throw paper at this student.. no matter whether it was a joke (and for the record, i think it's a hilarious joke) or if he was sheerly an asshole.. he probably went a little across the line ordering an assault of bi-paper product.. they used to do this back in the 1930s and 1940s in germany to jews.. only instead of wearing broncos jerseys, they wore the star of david.. and instead of having paper balls thrown at them, they were stoned..

Now, I'm all for a good joke - and yes, this was a class on ethnicity - and a good lesson here could have been that hey, to accept something for what it truely is, a person.. in certain circumstances before you acknowledge them as just another person, you have to single and point them out, as something different.. unique, whether it be race, religion, sexual preferance, or anything. While welcoming him in with open arms as just another person.. you can't automatically forget that he is going to be different in many ways.. we are not robots, we are humans.. so in a sense, this could be a lesson for the kid and his classmates.. he's different, he likes the denver broncos, but he's just another kid - only difference is his football team of preference.. he could be black, or gay, or jewish, or hispanic - he's still the same as you and me, but he's unique, just like you..

this situation can show you 2 things, depending on your outlook in life..

this shows the weakness and fraility of our children today, and how everybody expects to be given this, and that, and how a little fun will cause them to spazz out..

or..

this is the shit that leads to school shootings. This is borderline bullying in my opinion, and I am a strong advocate for "no tolerance" policies on bullying to the extent that for bullying a student, you get expelled. Sure, this will mean a lot of children are out of schools - but you cannot take this shit likely.. you think Columbine was bad, 22 people got killed right? It's coming to the point where a student is going to strap a bomb to his chest and detonate during lunch and execute 400 innocent children.. what would we do then, create a "War on Harassment"? where stand-up comedians, late-nite talk show hosts, and rappers (well if they go, fuck them ill be happy) are sent to Guantanimo Bay as "enemy combatants"?

bullying I feel is the number 3 problem facing our children today (following only poor education at 1, and obesity at 2) and should be handled very strictly.. look at it from both sides - in most cases, somebody who bullys someone in school, 9 times out of 10 will do NOTHING with their lives.. and the kid who is bullied.. will either become mean and vengeful, suicidal, or shy - and will either commit suicide, an act of murder, or suffer from depression their whole life. So in reality, we got a lose/lose with bullying - nobody comes out a winner..

But from the other side of the spectrum.. this kid could learn something of a difference between seriousness, and humor. Honestly, who can argue with me - that you need a balance of responsibility and immaturity. If you're a tightass your entire life.. you're going to live in regret that you never relaxed or had the time to relax, but if you're immature your entire life, you'll never get anything done - but in high school, one should not be so uptight to let some laughter and paper throwing bother him. Sure - he may have felt hurt or think that the kids were making fun of him - more than likely they weren't - unless he's a total geek then they prolly were.. but the kid could learn 2 things here.. and in ethnicity class, this works as a good lesson plan..

1) Enjoy your life, have a laugh...

and

2) Every action has consequences.. no matter how large or small, no matter how just or in-just no matter how miniscule or retarded they may be. Everything you do, in society as a person is going to be magnified into the most obliviously stupid thing ever - and you need to be ready for that. The world isn't going to cater to you - so you need to learn to take your bumps as you go, and move on to make you a stronger person.. If you're going to wear a football jersey in western pennsylvania.. if it doesnt come in black and gold - expect to be razzed, but it's all in good fun.. When you get out of school - you're going to enter a workplace or college .. if you cant handle things in high school -- dont even consider moving on until you do..

this is just my stupid opinion tho.. have fun

Last year, over the holidays (Christmas 2004), my wife and I were arranging to pick up my oldest daughter from college for break. Her boyfriend at the time was from Ohio and was a huge Cleveland Browns fan. The boyfriend’s parents, who lived nearer to the college than we, agreed to meet us halfway to save us all time and gas and Pittsburgh was just about dead center between us and them.

I figured the best place to meet up with these folks would be Heinz Field (large, unmistakable landmark) so we agree to meet there. Shel and I get there first and we park outside of the Great Hall. When they arrive, they pull up behind us, we get out of our car and exchange pleasantries with the parents while my daughter and the boyfriend begin to get her stuff out of the trunk.

After we get her crap crammed into our car, the boyfriend proceeds to climb into their car and he comes back out with a very large, orange and brown Cleveland Browns blanket, waving it around in the air and exclaiming in a somewhat loud voice, “Look what I got for Christmas! Steelers suck!” REMEMBER: We are in Pittsburgh, in the dark, right next to Heinz Field at about 9 p.m.

At that point, I quickly urge my family to get in the car — time to go — watching for the oncoming barrage of bullets. I was seriously worried that this little idiot may have caught the attention of the wrong person. We were gone within seconds.

Playing devil's advocate here, this retard my daughter was dating may have benefited from this class. There is a time and a place for everything and, while I realize this kid has every right to be a Brown fan, being a flag waving, card carrying "Dawg" in this environment was probably not the smartest thing in the world he could have done, considering the physical safety of everyone in the area, including us die-hard Steelers fans.

As undercoverjoe already pointed out, this teacher's lesson plan could save this kid's life someday, literally. There are crazy people in this world and just because you have the right to "wear a jersey," that doesn't mean some nut job isn't gonna bump you off for it. They threw paper at him. Outside of a papercut, you're good to go.

If this were math class, I'd be more upset about it.

Further thoughts: I know there are "a$$hole teachers" out there, and I don't know this specific teacher or this specific student personally, but if I had to guess, I'd say this teacher was trying to illustrate a point by implementing "visual aides" in his class. The kid had to know what kind of crap he was stirring up in the first place unless he's a complete and utter retard.

Then, he skips home, cries to mommy and daddy that they were "mean to him in school," and now the whole situation has been blown completely out of proportion.

Prejudice is not a good thing, but it's a real thing, and certain actions in certain situations could cost you dearly, especially if you're in the presence of a psycho.

The more I think about this, the more I believe the lesson plan worked, because, at the end of the day, the kid obviously felt infringed upon, which I'd say was the point of the demonstration.

Again, I wasn't there, so I don't know, maybe the teacher was just being an a$$hole.

If this so-called joke was to teach the kid about how not to be a racist by having the other kids throw paper at him what did it teach the other kids?

This is stupid. the teacher was being an asshole. If that is what he called a lesson plan then he should be fired for being an idiot. If that is his best example on how to teach tolerance and equality then maybe he should be the janitor instead.

And as far as the kid being a baby about it, I would personally rather take an ass beating than to be humiliated by other students per the teacher request. Kids have enough ways to pick on and humiliate each other for they don't need help from the adults who should know better.
