Any Carvin Dealers or people to do maintenance on them near?

Post by xero380 »

We are looking for local Carvin dealers or anyone local that works on Carvin speakers so we don't have to send them the whole way to California to be fixed. If you have any info please get back to me ASAP! Thanx!

I wouldn't send them to california unless carvin is paying the bill.

If they aren't paying the bill anyone experienced should be able to fix a standard speaker. If they are the powered version rip the guts out throw 'em away and buy a power amp.

What exactly is the truble anyway ? I had a few troubles with there powered speakers.

I know someone who has serviced electronic equipent for all his life and is licensed (authorized) by many national manufacturers to do so. He told me that Carvin makes their own parts and they are mostly not replaceable over-the-counter. He requested parts to repair a Carvin unit and they were either real expensive or they would not provide them. That has been holding me back a bit from trying anything Carvin. You have to go to them for service.

For those that need repairs, sorry that this person is over 3 hours away. I cannot help you.

What's the problem with your speakers? I've worked on Carvin stuff numerous times while I was the in house sound guy at The Castle Pub. I'm sure I could help you in some way. Carvin will sell you just about any part they make.

Carvin is a factory direct dealer, hence no middleman or other dealers/
repair folks. I've had pretty good success with any problems I've ever
experienced with their equipment. They are generally good about warrantees/replacement. The only other company I've had this kind of treatment from over the years has been ElectroVoice. Good luck!

Give Don at Don's Music Exchange in Bedford a call, he's pretty good at fixing things like that.

I got your PM. Have you taken the speakers apart and looked for disconnected wires, broken solder connections or any kind of burn marks? Do you own a pair of those speakers? Try swapping speakers to determine if the speaker or power amp is bad. You can use an ohms meter to find a bad speaker too. I once blew out a Carvin passive speaker crossover's mid-range resistor (or is it a diode or capacitor?, it's mounted to the circuit board, big ass yellow thing). I popped it like a kernal of popcorn. I had another Carvin speaker crossover there with the high channel blown on it so I swiped the mid-range part and soldered it onto the circuit board. It worked great while we were waiting for Carvin to send us a new crossover. I think I sent too much wattage into it.

Sounds like you are having trouble with a powered cab ? I had more trouble with Carvin powered cabs than I care to get into, if you bought them new they will ship them to california "fix them " and send them back, but they'll break again in a week.

I don't know what problems you are having with them, but I can fix them for you. I know where they get their components and can find them if needed.

I will say that this company isn't what it use to be. But then again some of there stuff is soooo cheap, I don't know how they do it. It is throw away equip. at best anymore, meaning that it is probably gonna cost as much to fix them as it did to buy them.

actually the boxes aren't bad, well made and the eminence speakers seems ok, but I don't know what is up with the electronics end, they fail mierably there.

Like I said save the hassle, rip the guts out hard wire 'em with a good crossover and get a regular power amp
