REAL metal covers

Post by SpellboundByMetal »

as i was sitting here listening to the "Master of Puppets" album, i thought "wow, wouldnt it be cool to have a REAL metal cover night?" . so what do all of you think? kind of like the RP jam, but have what songs and whos playing them. even if youre not in a band right now , and you know
old school metallica, Slayer , Sepultura, Black Sabbath, Megadeth , Pantera or anything like that. just a bunch of metal people hearing the covers that NEED to heard in a land of covers. i would like it to be organized though. the setlist and players complete, i mean.
we could call the event "Covers With Balls" , haha.
if you are interesting in playing, post here. if you think its a dumbass idea, post here. if youre scared of heavy metal all together, dont post at all 8)

That's a cool idea. I'd check that out and maybe even try to talk one of my bands into participating.

Hey spell why don't you have a night of all bands doing their own metal songs now that would be cool and I bet their are some good ones or are covers easier?

i prefer original metal!!! my philosophy is, if youre gonna do covers, do GOOD ones. plus it gives the guys who play, but arent in bands a chance to jam.

hahaha, that NILE song would rule!

I'd pay to see a band attempt to do "War" by Meshuggah at full speed. That would be funny as hell! Instant drummer meltdown.

If anyone can find a drummer that could handle most metal covers like that it would be awsome. I haven't seen many in this area. Granted there are a lot of good drummers around here but none that can play Metal like that.(No offense to you drummers) But if you look in the Musicians wanted section NECROTOMIE is looking for a drummer that could hang with the wicked stuff like Meshuggah and Morbid Angel. NO ONE has replied. Are all the good METAL drummers playing with someone, or do they just not exist in south central PA?

I've always been one to know my limits, and I can't imagine playing stuff like Pete Sandoval or Thomas Haake. Those cats blow my mind with how fast they play.

If anyone wants to do some Maiden, I'd love to play bass. Kevin, didn't we mess around with The Trooper?

Bill, yeah, I think we did mess around with that in Eddie's garage, LOL! I've messed around with that one with a few bands, like you guys and HF1, but never did it all the way through...

I'd love to pound out something slow, like EVERYTHING DIES by Type O!

hey kevin, im in for Type O!!! good suggestion, man!

ill play guitar, bass or sing to whatever songs!!! not all at the same time obviously.
maiden should be done! name a song and we'll find players.
id like to see a some dudes play: "seek and destroy" by metallica. "propaganda" by sepultura. "season in the abyss" by slayer. if we can get a songlist and who's playing what. those guys can rehearse one or twice or whatever.
i dont think we should make any $$ off this even though "covers pay". it can all be donated or put into a rockpage event fund. this needs to be done!!!
im glad there are some interested people. now if some of you can helpme get this done, that would be GREAT.

We use to do Seek and Destroy, but it usually totally killed the dance floor with the exception of the two token metal heads, so we dropped it from our setlist.

I'd be willing to try this. Almost definately won't be able to but it will be fun trying. Also I'd like to cover New Millenium Cyanide Christ or Hourglass by Lamb of God.

TKY, that Meshuggah reference was somewhat meant as a joke. Thomas Haake couldn't even play the part to "War", they actually used a drum machine to record that song, because nobody on earth can play that fast. But I would love to see someone try it. I might be able to play it at 1/164 speed.

This whole idea is getting better and better.

ok, well, lets get the song list started and players who want to be involved. ill work on a song list, and ill post it. we can go fromt here. of course, post song suggestions! some bands have so many good songs, its hard to pickone, so maybe we'll do 3 of some. being able to jam GOOD songs with various band members and players would be great. the song teams can do more than one song of course.
this will give a chance for the cover band guys to do heavier stuff and the original band guys a chance to do some BADASS covers.

ok, well, first im gonna write down all the players that wanna participate.
dont agree if you dont wanna do it, damnit. commit and stick with it.
post with what instruments you can play if you want to do this.
once the musician list gets decent, we'll work on a final song list.
im not gonna start looking for a place to do this and a soundguy if no one wants to do it....so im looking here for posts. also, if you think you can help me organize this, let me know.
lets do this!!
