It was hysterical when I was younger but not so much now.Mel Brooks hasn't made a funny film since History of The World Part 1.
But to each his own I guess.

"Young Frankenstein"...my all time fav Mel Brooks' flick. I own it on VHS. I've only seen his others a time or 2. For the longest time, every time I'd watch it, I'd notice some sight gag I'd missed each time before.

I've never seen Spaceballs in its entirety, just parts of the flick here and there. I thought there were some good moments.

My favorite Mel Brooks flick, though - without a doubt - Blazing Saddles!

I'm not certain if it's "History of the World, Part I" or what flick in that "Historical Comedy" Genre it's from...there's a scene where a woman Baas or Moos on her wedding night, due to I believe her Mother telling her to do what the animals did...or is it from "The Life of Brian"? ...and I'm not certain if that one is a Mel Brooks movie...

I got the special edition of Blazing Saddles last year and there is some great background material.

first, the racial jokes in that movie were a break-thru. No one had done anything like that.

Guess who one of the main writers was?

Richard Prior. he wrote almost all of the black actors dialogue.

Mel wanted him for Sheriff Bart, but the studio would no do it. Said he was too controversial.

The movie is a comedy classic and broke barriers but It would have been a different movie with Prior.

"Princess Vesba's space ship is in rage sir"
"Good, Fire a warning shot across her nose"
"firing noises"
"Careful you idiot, I said across her nose, not up it !"
"Sorry sir, I'm doing my best"
"Who made the man a gunner?"
"I did sir, he's my cousin"
"What's his name ??"
"Asshole sir"
"I know that, but, what is his name?"
"That is his name sir, asshole, major asshole"
"and his brother?"
"He's an asshole also sir, gunnermate forst class Philip Asshole"
"How many assholes I got on this ship?"
"The whole fleet Yells - Hail Scrube!"
"I know it, I'm surrounded by assholes!"
"slams hood, Keep firing assholes!"

That movie is classic .. I love it, I laugh my butt off everytime I watch it . It's one of the few I could probably recite from start to finish lol ..

+1 for Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. Robinhood Men in Tights was hilarious when I was younger, but it's lost some of its touch. Either way, Mr. Mel Brooks is a genious.... PUTIN ON THE RITZZZZZZZ!

I am anxious to see Mel's new movie based on the Broadway show and his earlier movie called The Producers. It has Matthew Broderick (sp), Nathan Lane, Will Farrell, and Uma Thurman. It's supposed to be hilarious.

Spaceballs is my favorite Mel Brooks movie, along with History of the World Part 1, and High Anxiety.

I remember waiting for History of the World Part 2, which never came.

Spaceballs is one of my 9-year-old son's favorite movies. When we watch it, he makes me put the language on French. It's actually pretty funny in an entirely different way in French.

(Yes, I own Spaceballs on DVD)

:D Who has a DVD, VCR and would like to have "movie nights"? That would be fun. The bartender at The White Lady said she's thought about that there, with their huge TV...

the producers.. the nite that comes out (hopefully at shit cinema in huntingdon) i will be there.. that does look insanely funny.. its a total mel brooks work, jewish jokes, hitler.. everything, plus, will farrell hahaha

Blazing Saddles is one of the best movies Mel Brooks did - his use of satire and at the time current event comedy is just pure gold. The way he was able to use Slim Pickens, and Harvey Koreman as an evil duo was brilliant.. I would like to see how it would have been if Richard Pryor played the Sheriff of Rock Ridge instead of Cleavon Little.. even though he did an outstanding job alongside Gene Wilder.. but I think Pryor, who assisted in writing the movie, would have been better...

"Occupation?"
"Stand up philosopher."
"What?"
"Stand up philosopher. I coalesce the vapors of human existence into a viable and meaningful comprehension."
"Oh, a BULLSHIT artist!"

"Say Bob, do I have any openings that this man might fit?"
"Crowd: Whooooaaaaaaa!"
"Well, we could use another wine steward."
"Hey, I got a great corkscrew."
"Whoooaaaaaaa!"
"Damn, this a hip crowd! "

"And of course, with the birth of the artist came the inevitable afterbirth - the critic" - This was a good scene lol. The guy taking a leak on the painting lol ..
