Lynn Swann
Lynn Swann
I'm a conservative. I'm registered republican. I don't have much love for Ed Rendell. However, I don't understand people who are jumping on the Lynn Swann bandwagon without even knowing his position on even one issue.
Hey, I like the Steelers, but if you want to be my governor, you'd better have some qualifications other than four super bowl rings and many years experience as a sideline reporter. I don't care that the guy isn't a politician; in fact, that is probably a plus. He may in fact be supremely qualified to govern the commonwealth of Pennsylvania - but I'm not going to start banging the Lynn Swann drum until the guy shows me something.
What say you?

Despite all their shortcomings, Republicans at least make good on campaign promises like tax cuts. Its too bad Bush never promised anything about spending cuts. He spends our money like a drunken sailor.

here are some issues that I would personally like to see addressed, they wont be, but if they were i would vote for the candidate who did the best job w/ planning them out..
1) Who is going to sign the piece of paper that will regulate PennDOT from using that low-grade dog food on the fucking highway systems in this state. Also, who is going to start funding getting some of these backroads paved. Parts of Huntingdon and Fulton counties still operate on dirt..
2) Who is going to handle the noise ordinance like bassist4life stated. Better yet, who is going to look into changing the way bars and alcohol serving places operate. I would personally like to see all entertainment venues, be forced to accept live acts, including live acts under 21. As long as you have your entertainers license, or qualify as a restaurant.. I don't see a problem here.. The noise. we got to get a decimeter level, ON PAPER, IN CONCRETE. That way the stormtroopers cant barge into whatever establishment they want, and bring them down just for kicks n spins.
3) We got a serious economic problem going on in the state. Somebody needs to look into the state constitution and see what can be done about this tax cut bullshit. We need new businesses to come into Pennsylvania so some people in the rural areas can work. Listen, where I was born and raised you did 3 things - went to college, went to the service, or went to JLG. Most chose option number 3... but places like JLG, and Grove, H&M, anything anymore... there's no job security. We need a new business like Toyota or Tyco or something to come in, build a plant somewhere that can send a few thousand to work, and then another. And we need to be able to compensate them fairly and extensively for bringing business to the state and local levels.
whoever discusses these things, if they do.. ill vote for the best of them

Well, I'd vote for my dog before Rendell would get my vote, just as he didn't get it the first time around. I am open to vote for people who are interested in quality growth of his state. Not those who want to create bigger monsters by supporting things they "think" will be such great monetary endeavors for the state.
As for one of Atomik's comments, the state doesn't maintain all roads. In fact, they are maintaining less roads every year, because they give money to townships and other authorities to take over maintenance on said roads. Also, if you're driving on dirt roads...get the 2 other ppl that live along it to pitch in and pave it. Dirt roads are that way because their isn't a necessity to make it any other way.

I totally disagree with the dirt roads comment. Before I moved to Lebanon county, I would drive through areas of either dirt or stone roads that would be entire valleys. Valleys that have roughly 100 people or so - these same valleys also become inpassable during winter or spring from flooding or mud builduprreihart wrote:Well, I'd vote for my dog before Rendell would get my vote, just as he didn't get it the first time around. and as far as townships.. i agree, township supervisors should do a better job on their townships, but i was referring to the highways, I-81, I-80, I-78, I-83, I-70, I-76 (turnpike) some of these roads are PATHETIC. And they are the major arteries of pennsylvania. I-81 has been doing construction in Chambersburg for 8 YEARS. And are slated for anywhere between 10-20 more, and the roads there are worse now, then they were before they started. That strip of I-81 is disgusting..

The "I" roads are supposed to be maintained by the feds, usually thru grants to the states. Roads that have a keystone on the sign, like Rt. 220, and state legislative routes (small signs that say LRxxxx) are maintained by the state. All others are the responsibility of the municipality. They are sometimes funded by the state.
As far as dirt roads, generally, the municipality has an ordinance stating what must be done to create a new street within the municipality. Unfortunately, it is usually the responsibility of the homeowners or developer to initially bring the dirt road up to paved spec and the municipality takes it from there.

I’ve often noticed that Democrats use that corn line of false hope and false prosperity, and few people second-guess it… even in retrospect.

You may recall that, as a result of 9/11, Ridge was put in charge of the DoHS. He was the Governor of PA before this appointment. Many think that he’ll run for higher offices (maybe even Vice President) in the very near future.YankeeRose wrote:I'm not defending Rendell by a long shot, but tell me, just what Political Party did RIDGE belong to, how many terms did he get elected to and what good did he do?

Although Republican, Ridge's views were more like a moderate Democrat (yes, there are a few of those around). He was elected twice as Governer of PA, but resigned in 2nd term to become the 1st Secretary of Homeland Security. He was Rockpage friendly since he tried to privatize the PLCB.YankeeRose wrote:I'm not defending Rendell by a long shot, but tell me, just what Political Party did RIDGE belong to, how many terms did he get elected to and what good did he do?

Lynn Swann is about lowering taxes and reducing the size of government!!!
Halileula!! Halileula!!
Those who want the redistrubution of wealth, go to a communist government where its been tried and failed.
Oh, Sweenden is pretty socialist too.
(The sad truth is that we are becoming more socialist every minute. Over 50% of Americans do NOT pay federal income taxes.) I say if you do not pay federal income taxes, you don't get to vote.

What I love about so many who bitch and moan about paying taxes is that they are the very ones who claim every little thing as a business expense or even are supplied a vehicle by the company they work for. One of my former employers used to buy in bulk at Sam's Club and some of the merchandise (1 "fer instance, Toilet Paper.) was used in the office, but the rest was doled out for his, his son and daughter's personal home use...his daughter's car was Leased and written off as a "business expense"...she lived in an apartment attached to the office.
THOSE were "businesses expenses"? Practices such as those are rampant with the wealthy in this country, so please spare me the "poor rich" who have to pay Taxes CRAP!
