I recently bought a Alesis DM5 from ebay. I really liked the kick sound (my old drummer had one), and maybe for some dumb fx too.
prob is: he sent an atari adapter
will this harm this unit?
alesis pf3 specs are: input 120 v, 60hz, 15w
output: 9 vac, 830 ma
atari walwart specs are: input 120v ,60hz , 50w
output: 9vac, 31 va
I am kinda pissed bout this, because in many applications the wrong walwart can cause serious damage
thoughts please

wall wart question

Everyone wants to go to heaven but noone wants to die
I would concentrate on the output specs, I've never saw one with "ma" so you'll have to find out what that means for sure and convert it to "va". Commonly "ma" stands for milliamps wich would convert your " va" to 7.47 wich would be lower than the 31 on the Atari transformer. You should be able to run a lower "va" piece of equipment on a bigger transformer. So by all the info given it looks Ok, however its still not the correct one so its a risk.
I had a digitech multi effects processor I tried to run off a universal type transformer and it wouldn't work but it didn't damage anything.
I would first contact the seller and try to get the cost back for a new transformer then you'll have to decide if you wanna take the risk or spend the money for a new one.

Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.

The alesis units (all) must have garbage for power supplies . I've seen several that have had to have the wall wart replaced because of failure.
I think in some of these cases exactly what you have is what was used.
Are the spes listed for the alesis unit the specs for the wall wart it calls for?
From the info you have listed I can see no problem with the unit that was sent along. Make sure the alesis unit requires either a/c or dc input power and that the output from the wall wart matches the polorarity +/- if dc at the tip.
From what you have listed it looks as if the unit they sent you is a much
more capable power supply in terms of output. The output power of the wall wart you have has a higher output rating than what is needed but thats not a bad thing.
Once again be certain if you need a/c or dc power and polarity at the tip of the wall wart. Whoever sent it most likely already did this and it'll be fine.
If it works I wouldn't be upset about that. Just figure he sent you a more powerful engine for your ride.
If you still have concerns give me a call.

Alesis products do NOT work with DC power supplies. You DO NOT want to put anything in there with DC written on it!
The Alesis wall warts are nothing more than a 120Vac to 9Vac transformers. Since its just stepped down AC current, there is no polarity.
830ma is 830 milliamps or 0.83 amperes of current.
Any 9Vac rated at 0.83 to 1.2 amperes will work.
Generally, you do not want to go much higher than a 1.2 amp rating because many transformers require full rated output current to get the rated output voltage. You should put an AC voltmeter on that power supply that you are using. If it reads 9V AC, then its no problem. If it reads 8V or less, you could fry the innards of your DM5.

Get the Alesis one...the other two are way out of spec. One is only 8V and the other is 3.4 Amps...it would probably only put out 8V at .83 Amps. You also don't know whether the connector will fit. You could find cheaper ones on eBay, but then you can't be sure the connectors are the same either.Deviance1 wrote:http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbase/p ... 246538.jpg
