First off, I'm not here in support of NS. She's a big girl. Let her fight her own wars. But I am here to dispute the fact that the music Winger put out is bad. I dare anyone to try and recreate any song off the first two albums Winger put out. Good luck with that. With all the layering, flashy technical guitar leads from Reb Beach, and all the arrangements on keys from Paul Taylor, I'd venture to say Winger is probably one of the most difficult bands to cover in any accurate way from the genre. And Kip was a solid bassist. There was a reason Alice Cooper chose him as his bass player and it wasn't his Playgirl looks. Alice never really had a bad player in his band. Eric Singer (Ex-Kiss) was also in Alice's band at the same time as Kip. Seems like Spellbound and myself are going to constantly clash on this subject. Sorry man. I live for this type of music. But as a musician, it's hard to discount any band for selling millions of albums in their career, even if you don't like them.


Songsmith...If you saw Winger in '88, they couldn't have learned anything new at that point. They just broke through with their first album. '98 Winger as a band wasn't in existence except for maybe a short tour here and there, and '03 Kip was a solo artist. As a solo artist, Kip did release new music. "Songs From the Ocean Floor" is his latest release as a solo act. If you want something new, check that out.

Winger was a very talented band. They definatley had a very produced sound, but that's what I liked about them.

Call me weird, but my favorite albums from both Poison and Winger were the albums just after their biggest hits - Poison's Flesh and Blood and Winger's Pull. On these albums both bands went for a more serious, even darker, sound. Flesh and Blood had the hit "Unskinny Bop," while Pull pretty much flopped in comparison to Winger's prior two albums.

Winger had Rod Morgenstein on drums from Steve Morse, Dixie Dregs. Awesome drummer, he even made some winger stuff sound progressive with his odd times.

Victor Synn- i dont think we'll constantly clash. ive allready said i dont like hair metal....i have no need to say it again. even though i dont like hair metal, id still like to see a HF1 show. im sure some of the songs i will like.

I do like straight up metal. HF1 does Iron Maiden and we're looking to do more from them. We do Priest. I personally like as much pure metal as I do hair metal. Testament, old Metallica, old Megadeth, Grim Reaper, and Manowar all come to mind. I just don't discount a band as being a shitty band because I wasn't into the style. I discount it based on hearing it and making a decision based on what my interests are. I hate Slayer because of the fact that I'm not a fan of the subject matter they cover in their music. I also never like to see fans take their fanhood so far as to carve the band's name in their flesh with a knife. Some might call it devotion. I call it madness. I love Def Leppard. Even have a tattoo of the band logo on my arm. Would I take a knife and slice the image of the Hysteria album cover in my chest? No way. I remember watching an interview with Slayer on TV and they asked Araya and King about the people that carve the band's name in their flesh. They just chuckled and shrugged it off like it wasn't any big thing. That's what disgusted me about them. From that point on, I lost respect for them as musicians. I think it's any musician's responsibility to stop behavior that drastic among their fans. If they'll listen to anyone, it would be you, the ones they idolize. But I guarantee there are still lunatics grabbing a knife every time they hear Seasons In the Abyss.

I think the logical thing would be for the band (Slayer in this case) when asked about such insane behavior by so called hard core fans would be to denounce their actions. Yanno a "We appreciate the dedication by our hardcore fans by their willingness to mutilate their bodies in tribute to us but we by no means condone their actions."
By them not speaking out against such behavior it's the same as if they condone it.

I went to the last Slayer show in the 'burgh. Although there were 5,000 people there shouting that they were about to sacrifice someone on certain songs, all that was there was a bunch of big-ass-shit-kicking-more-fun-than-should-be-allowed mosh pits. It's mostly hype, like the Alice Cooper and the chicken bullshit story.

BTW, Tom Araya goes to church when not on tour.
