NS, Dream Theater is NOT hair metal. They are progressive metal, also called "prog-metal". The difference is the with prog-metal, the songs are much longer, much more involved, usually with a theme of some sort, and lots of time changes within the song. Some of the best musicians you'll ever see are in prog-metal bands.

The Hollywood Rocks box set is excelent! Vic's brought it out to several shows. Excelent collection of material and definately worth the money.

Vic, Can't believe you forgot Doro! Back in the day she prob rivaled Halford in the pipes department.

Some on those lists I would never think to be hair metal. But then, after not listening to big hair saturday night on rocky since they switched formats what would I know ..

There's alot of bands played during Big Hair Sat Night that techniqually are not considered Hair metal.

AC/DC anyone?

could be argued though that GnR are not a hair band. Axl only did the big hair and full make up for the Welcome to the Jungle video.

To quote Tom Keifer from Cinderella when asked about Cinderella being dubbed just another hair band his reply was this...

"Yeah, we're from the 80's, we're a band, and we got hair. Who gives a f**k?"

Just a few more I came up with:

Disneyland After Dark (D.A.D. for short, since they were threatened with a lawsuit from Disney)
Slut
Dirty Looks
Virgin (Rikki Rachtman's band)
Alleycat Scratch
London
Sin
Xciter

A few that I didn't see mentioned, and some that may have been but I missed (some LONG lists mentioned!!!)....

Roxx Gang
Heart Throb Mob (glam)
Thunderhead....not that it is "hair metal" but love them just the same.
I, Napoleon....again, iffy on the "hair metal"
Shotgun Messiah...and again...
Kik Tracee
Tigertailz
Scorpions
Faster Pussycat

This is one of my fav kinds of music...love seeing the lists because it reminds me of some great cds I should be listening to!!!

These guys were pretty good. I still have their "No Fuel For The Pilgrims" cd.

Dude! I want that disc. I'll have to get a CD-R so you can copy it off for me. I've been looking for that for a while.

Before I leave for a while, I figured this was a good place to impart a bit of funny true story, told to me by someone I met last week who lived and played in L.A. CA. "Hair Band" members and others - Slash in particular is one I recall mentioned... would come into Clubs/Bars and yell out tunes they wanted to hear the Band on the stage play...a few tunes requested: "Freebird" and "Taking Care of Business". :D There were a few other tunes mentioned that one would never imagine them wanting to hear. The person's point was that it just goes to show you, at the end of the day, they're just every day people.

"Every Day People"...good tune. :)

I have No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims as well, excellent album!

A few names I didn't see listed yet...

Roughouse (formerly 'Teeze' from Philly)

Wrathchild (the British one, the reason why the American band of same name had to add 'America' to their name when they got signed)

Wolfsbane (where temporary Iron Maiden singer Blayze Bayley came from; with Wolfsbane he kicked ass!)

Pretty Maids

Shy

Lionheart

TT Quick

Adam Bomb

Kickaxe

Killer Dwarfs

Warrior

Warriors

Highway Chile

Trust

Victory

Also, in addition to some of the female-fronted bands already listed, here are a few more...

Rock Goddess

Girlschool

Hellion

Sacred Child (featuring Neil Young's sister, Astrid, on vocals)

I'm sure I can come up with a bunch more names myself...keep posted.

Their sound really wasn't, but they had the look of the time. Like I said in another thread...Big Hair wasn't all about the music.
