I wanna learn to play

I wanna learn to play the AXE like LITA FORD (one of my girl hero's)

or Hendrix.
always loved the GEET! i want to shred DISTORTION On some major amperage!!




can i do this on my own? i don't want to go do the lesson thingy at music shop. can i do this in my home, online with some good books maybe?

i am serious here. i want to learn bad, but what am i getting into? will i pick up bad habits doing this on my own, or is this doable?

advice please, please be serious, i am.

NS, that's awesome that you want to learn to play. Understand what you are getting into, though. It's going to take a LOT of work, blood, sweat, and tears to learn to play.

You can learn from home if you want, there are a lot of good books out there, but the best way to learn is from a teacher. And I'll be honest, you should start out on an acoustic guitar. Once you get good on acoustic, then go for the electric. You'll learn better technique by starting on acoustic, because you have to draw the sound out of an acoustic guitar.

Don't go in expecting to strap on a strat, crank the marshall half-stack up to 11 and sound like Lita or Jimi. It's going to take a long time, a lot of patience, a lot of work, and some help to get you there, but if you believe you can do it, then you can do it.

i figured i'd have to go acoustic at first, no prob. i know i have to learn to crawl before i sprint

any good books or other advice like what acoustic should i get or anything else to get me statred, please i am serious about this. ben thinking about this for a long time. i don't expect to become the best like you guys but i want to get good for my own enjoyment. I absolutely luv the electric guitar! i mean i realy really lov e it! that's really why i like to hange here.

no surrender, you say you're "serious" about learning to play Guitar? Here you go: there is going to be a Guitar Workshop for Beginners toward the end of the month and Mr. Wachter is an excellent Musician. You should check it out, go to it, even. You don't even have to take your own Guitar, one will be provided for you to use during the Workshop. When it's over, if you've come to the conclusion that playing Guitar just isn't for you, all you will have expended is $15.

Guitar guru Ernest Wachter will teach an introduction to guitar workshop in Hollidaysburg on Tuesday Jan 24th from 6 to 8 pm. Cost is $15. To register call 814-695-5513 or email: TheBridalChamber@verizon.net.
Guitars will be available for use for those who do not have one.
This workshop is designed for newbie and beginner level players.
Basic guitar styles and playing techniques will be presented.
Vegetarian refreshments and handouts will be provided.
Directions will be provided upon registration.

i didnt take any lessons for anything...i think it just depends on how hard you try at it. i did buy some chord cards though which are cool. i got them from the music emporium in altoona. they are good for learning chord and the names of the chords. you are only limited by yourself.
