I found a small 25 band list on Wikipedia, and the rest I filled in from memory. Victor Synn of HF1 is another great source of hair metal knowlege.

Most of the bands listed were either "one-hit wonders" or never had a hit. There were so many "clone" bands that it really took something special to stick around for years, like The Crue, Def Leppard, or Bon Jovi.

It's amazing how many bands use to play on the Sunset Strip, but still never "made it". I like to read the interviews on Metal Sludge, because a lot of times, the musicians will talk about a lot of those such bands.

P.s. Another important band I didn't see on either list: Hanoi Rocks
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

Another decent list. If I think of anymore, I'll post them. Those should keep you busy searching. Or if you don't want to search that much, there is a 4 disc compilation out called Hollywood Rocks! that has a lot of the bands listed in my list and Kevin's list. Runs around $50.

Jizzy used to play in his own band Love/Hate. He started a band, I'm assuming before he joined Ratt, called Adler's appetite with Steven Adler (ex-GnR) and Robbie Crane (Now in Ratt). Both Robbie and Jizzy left and joined Ratt and are still with them now. Jizzy also released a solo album recently called Just a Boy.

Just thought of two more bands. For the girl singer fans:

Warlock (Dora Pesch also released albums just under the band name Dora as well)
Femme Fatale

In a way, yeah. Might not be called that anymore, but there are bands influenced by it. Check out Buckcherry and you can easily see where the influence is. Brides of Destruction is another band, although they are on hiatus now (Nikki Sixx is touring and Tracii Guns just joined Quiet Riot). The Darkness was on Kevin's list, but they are a new band that takes influence from the sound, but I think they tend to lean more towards 70's glam as opposed to 80's LA glam.
