"why does anyone play bass when they could play lead axe? "
i've got a really simple answer and ur all gonna laugh and make fun of me but i dont care. i chose bass becoz i was learning to play guitar and got pissed off and quit becoz there were too many strings that were too close together.
One Gun Salute
now see, i dont claim to be a good bassist by any means. in all honesty i probly shouldnt be playng it becoz i'm not good by any means but i can play enough to get by. but i read bassists post where he said "I've played bass for over 10 years, and I've never felt unappreciated. " and i had to share this story with you. i recenly left This Dying Season after nearly 6 months of playing with them. now, as a little background, i put up 3 websites for our band and book everyshow that we played. our lead singer got drunk on night and told me that i was a shitty bass player that contributed nothing to the band. hows that for feeling unappriciated? it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside and prompted me to leave the band. I love my life (lol).
finger deep in the borderline, show me that you love me and that we belong together, relax turn around and take my hand...

i decised to delete this. i dont want to make any feel bad.ChaosRisingRice wrote:You were probably better off leaving that band anyways. I can't believe that nobody else stuck up for you. I would never let that happen. It is really sad how bass players get a bad wrap with being untalented. But with out them the music wouldn't be the same

NS- First off, i dont think you fully understand the "Band" concept or music in general for that matter. I, nor any bass player is making a "sacrifice".
Bass is a necessity in a band. I dont think bass as limiting or pathetic. i love playing any instrument and can play :Guitar, bass, drums, keys, and vocals ON THE SPOT. obviously not all at the same time. im gonna save you some typing.
I take pride in what i do, and play all of those instruments to the best of my ability. if no one "notices" me or cares about the bass player, cool, thats less pressure on me. Im not playing bass to be a focus point of the band. I can tell you this: show up on the 20th ....and i will show you what bass is all about. ok, no surrender?
