One Gun Salute
hey everyone,
i just wanted to say that i have joined "One Gun Salute" as their bass player. kinda cool because tomorrow is a brand new year and it will truly be brand new for me. the band are the coolest guys and im very happy to be a part of the band. i will continue to work on my own music to hopefully play them out sometime in the near future....but i have pledged myself to One Gun Salute and promised to give everything i got to rockin that bass for them.
My first show with them will be in Jan and i cannot wait to finally meet alot of you! id like to thank the guys for the opportunity.
i am on cloud 9 nine right now.
Metal up your ass!

nosurrender, there was a thread on here a few months ago that discussed the merits of why different musicians choose to play bass or lead/rhythm guitar. There are also some thoughts about the role of each in the band, and this link might help to answer your question:

And SpellboundByMetal, congrats on your new gig. It looks like it should be a good fit; I'll look forward to catching the group out in 2006!

im not offended at all. i do play guitar among other instruments. my guitar hero is a bass player anyway.... Peter Steele from Type O Negative. I personally think the bass rules. every instrument is fun to play i think.
PLUS, bass players are needed all the time. I can play bass, so why not help a band out? Its a shame there arent more bass players.

I think a lot of the reason a person choses a certian instrument is from the influence they had or the way they grew up. For example: The reason I started to try and play guitar was because that is what everyone in my family played. I seen them play other instraments, but for the most part, in the bands they played in, they played guitar ..

- Why does someone play bass violin when they could play violin?no surrender wrote:can i ask a question..
please dont be ofeneded.
why does anyone play bass when they could play lead axe?
never understood this
i know bass is necesary even great but why
ps congrats anywho
- Why does someone play baritone sax when they could play soprano sax?
- Why does someone play tuba when they could play trumpet?
- Why does someone play a bass drum when they could play a snare drum?
The answer: Because music covers a large tonal range that spans all the way from the bass range to the soprano range. A guitar sits in the treble clef, bass sits in the bass clef. Actually, bass guitar is one octave lower than the bass clef; it's just written one octave above because everything would fall below the staff, otherwise.
And it's very ignorant to assume that bass isn't a solo instrument. I would suggest checking out a few of these names:
Michael Manring
Bill Dickens
Victor Wooten (who recorded an entire album of bass)
Gary Willis
Stanley Clarke
Jaco Pastorious
Steve Lawson
Jeff Berlin
Chritain McBride
That should at least skim the surface.
BTW: Congrats on the new gig, SBBM!!!

I've played bass for over 10 years, and I've never felt unappreciated. Also, I've gotten many compliments from musicians and non-musicians alike (I'm not saying I'm deserving of those compliments *LOL* Just telling my experience). Music's not about ego; it's about expressing something beautiful.
I don't mean to sound like a dick, but if you have to ask the question, then you probaly wouldn't understand the answer.

I am completely irritated by your posts no surrender. One of my best friends plays bass and I happen to play bass and guitar. We do it because we like it. I dont want to listen to your smart ass shit today. The poor guy just lost his father today, and he doesnt need to read your jackass comments about if he should play bass.
Congrats SBM.
Look forward to seeing u Dave and Scott.
Say a prayer for Steve Stull. (a mighty fine bass player)

Sorry...
Chad, I am so sorry to hear about Steve's loss. He has been nothing but great every time I have ever dealt with him.
Please let him know that we are thinking about him and that he and his family are in my prayers.
Peace
