Queensryche Operation Mindcrime II

Post by Possessed »

I was a little skeptical about Queensryche releasing a new Mindcrime.
I mean how do you top such a great album?
Being a big fan of thiers for years I am still interested in it an am approaching the idea with an open mind.
I have been following the progress on queensryche.com and I just checked this week and was blown away by the person they are having do the voice and singing of Dr. X.
none other than
RONNIE JAMES DIO!!!!!!
I had to pick my jaw up off the keyboard when I saw that.
DIO is one of my all time favorites and I'm sure he'll sound great as Dr.X
What are everybody elses thoughts on this?

That's extremely cool! Dio's voice is so distinctly different from Tate's too, so there should be a nice contrast (although both guys can absolutely wail). Is DeGarmo involved with this project? If it turns out even, say, 75% as good as the original Mindcrime, it should still wield with authority.

No unfortunately he is not. That's the only thing about this album that I am disappointed with.

I don't have my hopes up for OM:II at all. Been there, done that with Queensryche, ain't gonna do it again. With three disappointments in a row, I don't think they're going to come back and wow me anytime soon. And with their attitude of "fuck what the fans want, this is us, now!", they can keep spewing out the lightweight garbage, and keep on becoming less and less relevant, if they feel it's the right thing to do. At least they'll still have the members of their official fanclub, following them blindly (or should I say 'deafly') no matter what direction they go in.

I'll gladly eat those words if OMII comes out and kicks massive amounts of ass like the first one did. I just can't see it happening though.

Having Dio participating, is really cool though.

I'm not getting my hopes up for a killer album either.
What I heard is that they are most likely going in the direction of stuff like Suite Sister Mary and the darker stuff ala Promised Land.
I don't expect the album to be anything like the original Mindcrime but I will pick it up and give it a good listen. Hopefully there will be a glimmer of stuff like Spreading the Disease or Speak on this album.
I agree with Jimi Hatt that if it is at least 75% as good as the original it will be a decent album.

I’m a HUGE Ryche fan, yet I was skeptical about this release, as well. Nevertheless, I will be purchasing it. It will be interesting to see if my observations from Video: Mindcrime come true, in that all of the killings were actually suicides.

It’s a big shame about DeGarmo. He wants as little to do with the band (except for his royalties) and he’s content to just fly planes around the Pacific Northwest.

Scott Rockenfield has been selling drums (or trying to) on e-bay for a while. He started a company called RockenWraps drum covering. He is selling at least 3 drum kits from the Mindcrime II tours for 3 - 5 grand each. His transaction number hasn't really gone up in the last year. It's been in the mid to high 30's for months and months. Wait, I just looked, he finally hit 40 transactions. He doesn't seem to be doing much business. He joined in December of 2000. If he wants to get $5,000. for one of his drum kits, why does he only post one dumb ass black and white picture of him playing the kit? He needs to post more (better) pix of the kit, in my humble opinion. He has been trying to sell that same kit with the chain set up for what seems like months now. Don't take any of this the wrong way. I'm a HUGE Ryche fan. When they played at the War Memorial on the Empire/Mindcrime tour we waited in line for almost 10 hours in the freezing cold to get up against the gate in the front row. The venue was general admission at the time, no seats on the floor. We went into the Holiday Inn to use the restrooms and warm up for a minute and they were standing there checking out :D :!: I got Scott's, Michael's and Geoff's autograph 8) Chris walked right past all of us and didn't even stop to say hi   I thought he was the biggest dickhead for that. They said Eddie was "under the weather" and we didn't get to meet him. Mind blowing show it was :D

We met Eddie Jackson and Michael Wilton at the Richland Mall after an all nighter. It was a Sunday morning and the show at the War Memorial was on the following Monday. We all walked right by them and my friend said "Hey! There's Eddie Jackson!" We talked to them for a while but since we were coming of a long night we had nothing to get signed.
We did however ask if they would play "Roads To Maddness"
Michael said we'll see.
At the show Geoff Tate said "I hear that we have a few fans that really wanted to hear this one" And they proceeded to bust into "Roads to Maddness" That was really cool. They probably had it in the set list but it made us feel pretty damn good.
