So
So I guess maybe we agree that the concensus is "Black Sabbath" as the first real metal band according to Rockpage philosophy?

If youth knew; if age could.
Re: So
Lets have a contest. Bag, you and your band play your heaviest Zep set and Punkinhead, you and your band (or friends if you don't have a current band) play your heaviest Sabbath.Bag wrote:WRONG!tornandfrayed wrote:So I guess maybe we agree that the concensus is "Black Sabbath" as the first real metal band according to Rockpage philosophy?![]()
Bag says Zeppelin! And Bag rules!![]()
We could judge by crowd reponse....or a panel of judges, and Paula Abdul can sit on my lap.

I'm not arguing who is heavier, just who was first!

"Another prevailing influence on Sabbath by then, Geezer recalled, was Led Zeppelin. 'They sort of paved the way for us,' he explained. 'We used to get compared to them alot in those days. But they very much started the genre. For a time, it was ALL we listened to, you know, lying down on the floor, smoking our dope, and listening to Zeppelin.'"
According to Butler, Zep crept into Sabbath's music in all sorts of ways. "I mean, when we did 'Paranoid' I said to Tony, 'It's too much like Zeppelin, we can't do that.' They really had to coax me into it."
