Exclusive Members Only Section?
Hey Ron what about a members only section for musicians? To post about equipment, clubs, musicians wanted/available, stuff for sale, etc. I'd be willing to donate a set fee per year say $20.00. This would keep the trolls out and let the musicians discuss things they needed to without turning every thread into some off topic post! Would the true music types be up for it? For a taste of what I'm talking about check out www.talkbass.com

Wow! That sounds great!! I would also be willing to part with some cashola to be included. It would be like a true music forum... cool! But, how do you keep the trolls out? (one of the biggest reasons I haven't gotten into the site that much over the last few months). It seems every topic turns into a flame war or gets butchered by some dumbass that won't surrender to the fact that no one gives a shit about their opinion anyhow at this point, with bridges already burnt that is. What do you think Ron? Some extra cash would never hurt keepin' the site up!
I dunno ... fans (even annoying ones) are a big part of the scene and I think if you suggest alienation via an exclusive, musicians-only forum, you work to drive a wedge between us and them, and that's bad.
Remember THE REASON. It got ugly at times but it was handled. Same with METAL RULES and AJA.
Trolls are a fact of life when it comes to forums like this. I trust Ron to use good judgement, to clean up or delete threads that need it, and ban those who have earned the distinction.
However, I'm not opposed to making a $$ contribution to support the bandwidth.

IMO, i think the members exclusive thing is a good idea, but i would have to agree with rob. If you alienate your fans , then you will lose them all together. But again this is just my opinion!
With that being said ,I plan to do my damnest to ignore troll comments etc. and i think if we all do this then eventually the troll will fade away.
I think jp and ron are doing a great job with clean up on here.

Tim,
The reason why Talkbass has membership dues is so Paul can pay the insane amount of bandwidth that the site uses. Using a member's only due in order to exclude certain people is not a good idea, IMO, for the reasons already stated.
Personally, I think it's about time for another RP jam. Maybe when Bobby gets off of the prison circuit, we could put something together.

The members only portion wasn't mentioned to exclude fans and music supporters.! It was meant in addition to the regular Rockpage. Something for musicians to talk shop in which for the most part would bore the average Joe. Seems like when musicians run into each other that kind of talk always comes up anyway so why not have a section where it can be discussed without each and every post turning into something else. Plus the extra income would help support Rockpage throughout the year and as Paul put it maybe we could expand on what Rockpage can offer such as mp3s or video clips for everyone. Food for thought!

Why not just have Ron put up a seperate forum just for the band guys where they can talk about their gear. With the provisions that anything unrelated to the topic of that forum be removed. Repeat offenders who keep posting unrelated topics in said forum would be banned maybe temporarily at first as a warning then a full total ban after X amount of offensives.
The person below me enjoys a good spanking.
Exactly my point!Mistress_DB wrote:Why not just have Ron put up a seperate forum just for the band guys where they can talk about their gear. It's here already and it's called "Tech Sector."Mistress_DB wrote:Why not just have Ron put up a seperate forum just for the band guys where they can talk about their gear. You wouldn't have been posting there either. I would have chucked you out a long time ago.

I seen some problems with that. First, even the trolls are fans of some group so...when that happens and you piss off the fans, attendance at your show (if you happen to be the band of choice) goes down. Now. This is the public forum of "general discussion"....there are other sections in here if you want to talk tech or what not. And it's not like the bands haven't been able to talk turkey about what they gig and what not.
So...if you decided to make a musicians only section, where do people like me fall in? The ones that do their own thing. I sorta am in a band. I sorta play out out places for special events/occasions. I sing with a band on occasion. So, am I a musician? Or because I follow Beyond Reason, The Grimm, Never Enough, Amplified Heet, BJD, etc, religiously and don't have a normal "gig" pattern, does that make me a fan? So, what do you do with the people like me that aren't just fans but were not the full time musicians?
I honestly think that if you have something so important that it can't be discussed on the General Discussion board, then go to one of the other sections and if you're Trolls get in there and you don't want them on your thread, delete them. If not, sorry, you're going to have a lot of hurt feelings here. And besides, you just had two musicians posting about ass cracks and balls. And they are "professional playing out full time giggers" (or whatever you wish to call yourselves)...so, how much more serious can conversation be with all us rabble out of rock page?
I agree with ExZappa, that kinda hurt. I understand it, but it hurts still.
