Around the Corner still there??

Post by ASB10 »

Is Around the Corner in Johnstown still in business? And if it is, is it a decent room?

The last thing that I heard is that the management worked something out with the Riverhawks (and maybe the Chiefs) to have "meet and greet" nights on the the weekends, which would have a DJ. I don't know if anything came to fruition with that.

As far as the room... above average!

Someone played there a few weeks ago possibly diesel.

The place has an odd feel to it and DJs do seem to be the norm there.

I'm sort of "in-the-know" about this place.

The club is still in business. They have had one band play there already and one band supposed to play, but due to member changes, that particular band had to cancel.

They are running DJ's right now, but there is talk of trying to bring bands back on occasion. Maybe once or twice a month.

The owner and the in house "sound tech" had a falling out and some of the in-house stuff has been taken out. There are 2 Peavey DTH 218b subs and 4 Peavey SP2g cabs there. Power is all Peavey (one 1.3K and two 8.5C's) with a DOD crossover. There are no monitors as of yet, but there are some lights.

Bands would need to bring their own PA (for obvious reasons) or at least FOH gear, monitor gear, and drive snake if you desired to use what was there. I would opt for bringing in the whole PA.

Anyway, the owner is trying to re-establish the place, so hopefully, they will start having bands again soon.

That's all I know for now, but will gladly keep everyone posted.

Hope that helped.

Would that "sound tech" be nicknamed after the sound that a chicken makes???

He may be named after a sound that a chicken makes, but he is one of the best singers ive had the pleasure of listening to. His high notes are the most incredible sound ive ever heard come out of a human being. he plays in that band called NE146, they dont even play there anymore, all it is is one HUGE hip-hop bar. No one wants to pay a cover charge to see a band in there. We tried to get in on a weekend to play and cluck said it was pointless because they've had bands in there before and no one even stuck around.

Yes, I've worked with Cluck before. He does have a great voice. I'll leave it at that.

I was at ATC in April for a Skell show. Good crowd, good stage, and the sound was pretty good.
