"Skeksis" by Strapping Young Lad, off Alien. Actually, there are 5 songs from this album I keep going back to again and again - "Imperial," "Skeksis," "Love," "Possessions" and "Zen."
"Skeksis" is particularly remarkable in that there is so much going on and coming at you so fast, from blindingly fast drum rhythms to an intense cacophony of choruses, soundbytes and other elements - it's almost like too much information all at once. This song brings to mind the old Max Headroom movie, when the broadcasting corporation aired "blipverts," microcommercials that crammed so much information and stimuli into a tiny time frame that human neural systems couldn't handle all of it at once, and people blew up in front of their TV sets after being exposed to it. If there is a musical equivalent to "blipverts," I think Devin Townsend and Strapping Young Lad might well on the way to creating it...
And damn, that reminds me of what a fun movie Max Headroom was...since I'm snowed in for the night anyway, I think I'm digging into my video library and pulling that one out...
