Why I love pawn shops

Post by Victor Synn »

Just thought I'd share this, since I'm kind of blown away, but as most people that know me know I am in a never ending pursuit of obscure 80's hair metal. I stopped into K&B Bargain Store in East Freedom after an appointment I had this afternoon and was looking through their CDs and happened upon two real obscure discs. White Trash's self titled album and Manitoba's Wild Kingdom "...And You?" album (which I believe is their only release, but I could be wrong). These albums have been well out of print for a good 10+years and I was very happy I found these. White Trash is the only band in the "hair" genre and one of the first in hard rock music to have a horn section. Definately can hear a funk style in them, along with the sleaze metal styled vocals. Manitoba's Wild Kingom is just straight ahead rock, but their lyrics come off as comical to me. Any song that starts off "Stop that whining, cause you had a bad day. If you lost some weight, you might get laid" is bound to make a person grin.
As a side note, I also picked up Hellacious Acres from Dangerous Toys on Ebay over the weekend. Can't wait to get that disc, as I've been told I'm A Jason McMaster clone and I love his vocal style and only heard a few songs from that album and am eager to hear the rest.
Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'm sure the folks here that are into this type of music will get a kick out of it. :P

Hey Victor, you didn't happen to spot any used Sony Mavica digital cameras while you were there, perhaps one with a floppy disc stuck in it and a battery charger with a gum band around it?

LoL No JP. Didn't see anything of the sort there. Sorry. And I did look all over the place at random items.

I've had White Trash ever since it came out. The guitar player and bass player are brothers, and the bass player was only 16 when they recorded that. I'd like to hear what he sounds like now.

Well, they (White Trash) are basically still together - minus the singer and their "Badass Brass" section. Now they're called White Owl and sound like Linkin Park (yikes!).

Victor, if you like Manitobas Wild Kingdom you should check out the Dictators earlier efforts (Go Girl Crazy & Manifest Destiny), as MWK is basically the Dictators members 15 years after the 'tators broke up. If you think MWK is humorous, you'll also love the Dictators "Go Girl Crazy" - released in about 1976.

Dangerous Toys!! I haven't heard anyone mention them in a long time. I always thought they were awsome. I was root'n through the old tape collection again and found something a little obscure, Cats & Boots..
kicked and clawed. Another band I always liked that not many people know about is Leatherwolf. Anyone remeber either of these bands ? I have lots of odd stuff in my tape collection that I sometimes forget about.

I know Leatherwolf. I have the Street Ready album burned off on disc. Leatherwolf is actually back together now, but their original singer quit shortly after they reformed.

Also forgot to mention that I got the entire Femme Fatale self-titled disc on www.metalsludge.tv. Their gossip board has a thread dedicated to downloads of out of print or hard to find stuff. The mods had to take down the master list that a member made of everything submitted because they were given a warning, but the actual thread with all the individual contributions are still up. But if anyone goes there, be warned...the thread is massive. Well over 60+ pages of contributions and BSing about the bands offered up. It's not all hair metal either. Saw some early Metallica bootleg live shows on there too. Believe I also saw the first show Cliff Burton played with the band represented there too. Definately worth checking out.

Matt, your signature is extra funny to me. I have a cousin who was once on E at a party and ended up smearing her own feces on herself.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
