Ever Almost get arrested for kidnapping, for taking a fan?

Post by AtoMikEnRtiA »

Here's a nice little topic for this morning, and i'll start it off with my story..

It all started this past Friday nite - around 11:30 PM. I was on my computer back up at my mothers house in Hill Valley, getting some shit ready for the Eyes of Anguish show in Shamokin at the Capitol Venue. I have all my essentials with me, adobe photoshop, flash, sound forge, AIM instant messenger, a beer, and a slice of pizza - after working for a while getting some flyers ready for our next show, This Friday in Bethlehem, PA - I get a message on my AIM Instant Messenger from one of our biggest fans from Du Bois - she's 16 and wants me to drive 105 miles at around midnight to go to Falls Creek in Jefferson County, and pick her up, and take her to Shamokin w/ us. Me, being exhausted from a long day, and a long Thanksgiving - I declined, I told her I didn't have money, which I didn't - and I didn't have gas to get to Falls Creek and back, not to mention I didn't feel like driving 200 miles after midnight. So around 1:30 after an hour and a half of her, and about 6 other people trying to convince me to go get her, I go to bed, I needed to be up early to load equipment for the show, and I was dragging ass..

I wake up Saturday morning at like 8:30 to a message on my computer - it's this girl - she said "dont worry - David (vocalist) and Dusty (bassist) drove up last nite, they stayed at Dakota's (primates) and were coming to get me this morning. When I saw that, the first question I asked was - "is your mom ok with this?" I get no answer. I had to go, but when I got to Dustys around 11:30 to load equipment into my truck, I see this girl sitting on a chair in the E.o.A pracitice facility in Shade Gap. She runs up and hugs me, now I felt bad for not going to get her, but i had my reasons.. eventually every member of E.o.A and our crew arrived, and we set off for Shamokin, and the Capitol Venue..

We get to roughly Lewistown, when I get a call from the Surf N Skate, who was getting ready for a show that nite w/ Death Rattle out of Lewistown, Dakota asks me whats up, I tell him "Im going to Shamokin, and whats up w/ you?" and he says "we got a little problem back here in Du Bois" - Im like "little problem? whats up" turns out - this girl, lied to her mother, told her she was going to a friends house, and then to the Surf N Skate show, and then staying at this friend's house. Dakota tells me, that this woman called the police. I thanked him for calling and giving me the head's up - and handed the phone to Sam, and had her call her mother..

The girl calls her mother, who goes ballistic, she asks for whomever is driving at the time.. guess who? it's me. So I answer the phone call, and it goes something like this.

Me: "Hello?"
Her: "Who am I speaking with?"
Me: "Gary."
Her: "Well Gary, do you know how old my daughter is?"
Me: "Uh, no?"
Her: "Well do you think I would let my daughter ride 200 miles with a band?"
Me: "Ma'am - whats going on?"
Her: "What kind of sick mother fucker are you, taking my daughter with you this morning, and going to Shamokin?"
Me: "Uh Ma'am - I seriously have no idea whats going on. I didn't come get your daughter - I was sleeping last nite, and when I got to Dustys, she was just there."
Her: "Well who drives a black trans am?"
Me: "Uh - nobody, my truck is white and the car behind me is a white fire bird?"
Her: "Well just so you know, I called the police, and I am pressing charges. The Shamokin police and State Police know where the Capitol Venue is, they know there's an Eyes of Anguish show there tonite, and they're going to be waiting for you when you get there. So when you get to Shamokin, you better put your fucking arms up because you're fucking done, buddy"

ok - by now, I want to cry..

Me: "Ma'am I seriously don't know whats going on.. I live 3 hours away in Lebanon, I was sleeping all nite last nite, and this morning, what's going on?"
Her: "Put my fucking daughter back on the phone!"

so I hang up.. we stop at a Turkey Hill in Sunbury, where now, this girls psychotic mother wants to talk to David (vocalist) - he was the one who went and got her, and he along w/ me are the only people over 18 here. We're both 20. She told him the same thing she told me - anybody over 18 will be arrested for child kidnapping, and be subject to charges being pressed. Well it turns out - Sam tells her mom she's coming home and that we're not playing our show, we're just gonna get her home - she "calls" the police off, and we head to the Capitol in Shamokin

now from the way this psychotic bitch sounded, we were expecting an entire city block to be closed off, swat teams and cops to be waiting with guns and shit like that (no, that happened at Surf N Skate instead) - but when we got there, NOTHING. Except the normal shit you see at a show during pre-load - bands unloading trucks and trailers, shit like that.. turns out, this psychotic bitch was bluffing the entire time, she never called the cops - the Capitol knew nothing of this, neither did the locals. She just wanted to see what we would do - so we played our set and me and David drove 140 miles up Interstate 80 to Du Bois to take her home.. and then go home ourselves, beaten and tired..

you have NO idea the stress that thinking you're going to get arrested puts on you. I feel like ive aged 10 yrs, i prolly ended up smoking like 3 packs of cigarettes in an hour haha, and i wanted to throw myself off a bridge into the Susquehanna, luckily I didn't .. I hear the water is quite cold this time of year..

so - my question to you is this. Have you ever been arrested, or almost been arrested for ANYTHING fucked up going to a show?

discuss now.

That sucks! Once I hitch-hiked home from one of our 969 shows in Ohio because the idoit I was riding home with was wasted and wouldn't let me drive! It took 8 hours but the trucker who picked me up was cool and drove me to within a block of my house. At least it was summer...

Wow, that's one crazy story to be reading on a Monday morning!!!

I've had compliants filed against me, the state police called on me, and a party I threw last summer almost got raided by six cruisers worth of police, but I've never been arrested, thank God.

Well, to call the mom psychotic is irrelevent and probably not right. At least she cares where her kid is and checks into lies. I've probably let too many of them slide as a mom. This is entirely the girl's fault. Although your band-mates should have known better.

I'd have remained calm (I'm pretty good at staying chill when it hits the fan) and let her gas off for awhile. Then I'd tell her I agree with her, and that her daughter is safe, and in deep sh*t from the band as well, and that she'll be home as soon as you finish your responsibility. I'd go so far as to agree to meet with police, I'm not scared of cops, and if you're in the right, they'll know.
I'm guessing the mother bluffed because she was scared, and it was the only card she could play... she probably wouldn't have called authorities until it was absolutely necessary, because it would reflect on her parenting abilities, especially when they found out the girl planned the whole thing. Whatever the case, never question the bond between a mother and her kid... that's something that is far bigger than rock-n-roll, and it's a strong biological drive.
That said, when I was 20, a 16 year old girl could conceivably get me in a LOT of trouble. They call 'em jailbait for a very good reason. They have psychological reasons to get you in as much trouble as they can, it's them asserting the control that being nubile and innocent affords them. In short, they're learning to use the pooty as a weapon. STAY OUT OF RANGE OF THE POOTY!---------->JMS

to call this kid's mom psychotic is accurate and relevant on the premise that she doesnt give a fuck about her child, she just needed somebody to be home to take care of the house while her lazy drunken ass lays there and does nothing. this has happened a million times w/ this kid, even when she didnt lie. yes it was her fault, and yes it was my guys' fault for not asking and getting her anyways, but if i could explain everything (you or i dont have 14 hours) you would better understand this psychoticness i speak of haha

hey, if someone drove all that way to get her...somethings going on man. lets be honest here. anyway, the mom had every right to be fuckin pissed. if someone took my daughter ( i dont have kids) all that way without me knowing, id kick the living shit out of every one of them. thats just me. it wouldve been ME, not the cops waiting for you at the gig. its cool you didnt get arrested. id never drive all that way to get a girl for a show unless something was going on. you passed it up, but the other dudes couldnt help themselves. just be glad it wasnt some psycho dad with a chainsaw. i'll never have kids, so i wont be a psycho dad. i have two younger sisters that arent allowed to date until they are 50. i feel sorry for any guy who breaks those rules.

Whoever picked her up is a dumbass. Seriously, a 16 year-old girl? Not a very bright decision.

why? when the band is composed of 3 17 yr olds, a 16 year old, and the exception, a 20 year old singer.. so basically, they're just picking up somebody their own age. yes it was stupid to get her, but age has NOTHING to do w/ it in this case

Aha. The ages of the band members changes my perspective a bit. I wouldn't say that age has nothing to do with it though. Any time a minor female is involved in this sort of situation, you can be sure age is a factor, especially when there is a adult male thrown in, however uninvolved that person may turn out to be. To test this theory, imagine yourself telling the investigating police officer - "age has nothing to do with it."

Well lets look at the bright side of this, atleast no one was hurt, and no one was arrested. It might have been a stupid move but whats done is done. Its to bad the mother of this girl isen't more understanding, kids will be kids. She simply wanted to see a band she thought was awesome and went about it the wrong way. Jason / CYPHIN

Cant remember the name of the place off the top of my head. All i know as of now (cuz I havent spoken to the guys in a few days) is we're meeting up w/ a band called Perils of Reasoning in either Hartford or Ludlow, Mass and go from there - it's going to be their return home show from their U.S. tour and in the name of a good old fashioned show swap, we're going up there that week, and they're prolly coming down to the Surf N Skate in Du Bois the next - ill let you know the name of the place whenever it comes back to me, i got it written down somewhere in my bookings log, but thats at my apartment, and not here w/ me in the office.
