An Epic Evening
An Epic Evening
Fifteen Years came to an end last night. If Rockpagers are a family, Peter C's was the kitchen, The one central hub where key lifetime events happened or were planned, or were talked about. Like any place where a family comes together there were, spats, and outright fights and a certain amount of Drama, but there was also a kind of comfortable familiarity, a warmth that in many ways made Peter C's a home. You couldn't have one without the other and the combination of the two made the place all the more familiar. I doubt any of that was planned, I don't think you can plan something like that. But John and Jody made it that way, and that's the way it was.
When I Left Peter C's, The band was onstage and the crowd was cheering for more and that's the way I'll always remember it.

I agree, definitely an epic evening!
It was Hurricanes and jam sessions, fans and partiers, a few folks I hadn't seen out in ages, and yes, it felt like family. A dysfunctional family at times, but still, a family.
I've seen a lot of great shows and experienced many of the brightest music scene moments I've ever seen at Peter C's. I've met numerous friends here over the years, and have always experienced great hospitality from Big John, Jodie, Julia and the staff over the years.
Like Vin, I'll remember the scene of the Hurricanes finishing "Green Grass and High Tides" and the deliriously happy crowd yelling for more (I'll have to remember it, because my video tape ran out just as the 'Canes hit the last note of the song, damn!). And after the show, I'll remember petting "Bandit" the Peter C's 'CEO' on the head one more time.
Thanks again John, Jodie, Julia, Clinton and the staff for 15 great years! I'll definitely miss that place!

It's been about four years since I've played an actual gig at Peter C's. I was in the second band to ever play on the new stage (the first was The Hurricanes, who played the previous night of course). It was also the second club I ever played at when I was just barely legal to even perform in a barroom let alone hang out in one and have a drink. Wow, I normally don't get all nostalgic, so that's a bit out of character for me.
Anyways, I decided to come out to catch a show at Peter C's for the very last time and see some of my friends. I didn't go with the intentions of jamming, but Jeff invited me to sit in the moment he saw me. (BTW, Johnny stole my seat while I was checking out Jeff's new Precision, so I had to sit on the damn floor for half the night! *LOL*) With all the musos in the house, it was pretty obvious that some sort of jam was going to get underway. For some of us, Peter C's was home, for others it was a starting place where we got our feet wet. Either way, many of us came out to witness a turning point in the local music scene and a turning point in our musical careers. The Hurricanes was the last live band to perform at Peter C's. They could have been glory hogs and could have been selfish. Everyone knows that I don't kiss ass, but I do give credit where credit is due. Instead of playing the whole night, they allowed us all to share in the event. Felix, Jeff, and Bobby offered their instruments to all of us, instruments that probaly have as many "War Stories" to tell as the guys who play them night in, night out. We all got to play Peter C's one last time. And for that, I thank them.

I had a great time last night at C's. I got to see many old friends that I dont get to see to much. Also I got to meet a few people I have talked to on R.P. but never had a chance to meet in person and that was great. It was a pleasure to finally meet you last night Paul, and again Peter C's will not be forgoten
A beautiful bittersweet celebration for a tragic venue closing. I was having so much fun with the Canes and all the Rockpagers jamming, it surpressed the thought that this will never happer here again. That is a sad fact.
The Canes and all the great local bands will keep playing and who knows a new bar might start having live music now. The only constant is change.
The king is dead, Long live the king.

UCJoe, like you, I was okay last night, just having an awesome time!
There was such a Positive Vibe and much Love in the air - it wasn't until I read these Posts that it became "real". I too petted Bandit the puppy, not realizing until I read it, that it was very likely for the last time. UCJoe, as I read your words "this will never happen here again"...the tears finally came...not only due to what I'm feeling, but I thought of all I know who had been going there much longer than I, who I'm certain are going to be feeling the loss so much more.

The first time I ever went to Peter C's was during a visit home from LA to see The Hurricanes. (Around 1990). Felix had learned one of my songs "Revenge" and me and my bro, Paul, jammed with them all night long.
It took me 6 more years after that to finally get my ass home, but that night lives in my head as what this area really means to me. I've traveled quite a bit and have never experienced the love that goes around here.
I didn't get to make the finale but sat in a couple weeks ago and I relived that 1st night. I had the boys to myself and loved every second!
Adieu, Peter C's! Parting is such sweet sorrow...

If Music be the food of Love, Play on...
Sorry that it took me so long to post, I have been really busy with work.
Anywho, it was awesome to see so many musicians, play with some great people, and watch the machine that is The Hurricanes.
That is an evening I won't ever forget.

Ah yes, Sportsbars..ToonaRockGuy wrote:Peter C's has been purchased. From the scuttlebutt that I've heard, the name will change, and the place will become a sports bar with no smoking allowed, and no live bands. It's the end of an era.
The death of Pittsburgh and a battle waging in the Harrisburg Metro-plex has found a new battleground.. Altoona. You know what, let's fuck them up. Best way to do so is to continue to do what everybody does - keep playing in Altoona. Every time you play in Altoona, no matter where it's at - mention Peter C's if it is to become a sportsbar and show your displeasure.. it may not do much, but you never know..
