Toys for Tots Benefit - What a Night!

Post by Jim Price »

On behalf of Whitey and Robin at Pennsylvania Musician, Q94, City Limits and the U.S. Marine Corps Ebensburg Barracks, I want to extend a big THANK YOU to everybody who came out to City Limits this past Saturday night, and made the 3rd annual “Toys for Tots” benefit the biggest and best yet!

The whole night was a great time. All five bands put on great performances, starting with Blind Jonny Death’s rootsy Americana sounds, continuing with Plazma’s nonstop jam grooves, The Nightcrawlers tasty melting pot of sounds (Noah Figlin’s Page-meets-Plant display on Zeppelin’s “Ramble On” was jaw-droppingly incredible!), Hexhed’s high-powered hard rock and Hair Force One’s onstage edition of “Headbanger’s Ball.”

The turnout was great, thanks to all the Rockpagers in the house (YankeeRose, Jason, Esa, DMFJ03, Chell and the “Hair Bears,” kissmydagoass and The Underground TV crew (watch for highlights of the Toys for Tots concert when the Underground TV begins its second season in January), Q94 2005 Calendar Girls Michelle, Emilie and Jen, 2004 Calendar Girl Stephanie and more. Thanks to the 3 Marine representatives for attending, also Whitey and Robin from Pennsylvania Musician for making the 2-hour roadtrip to be there.

The final tally: nearly $1,150 was raised, along with two big full boxloads of new toys for needy area children this coming holiday season! Again thanks to everybody who helped make this a huge success! And look for the 4th annual Toys for Tots benefit next November, no doubt!

Now, a few photos from Saturday night’s festivities:

I would also like to thank all that showed up and the bands that all played. Every band was excellent and the transitions were tight! I had a lot of fun with all the bands, great people in all the bands. Thanks to JP for everything he's done, he doesn't have to do this, it's a labor of love. So, props to everyone involved and to everyone that came out. It was a great time!

I have to throw one more "Thank You" in there...Thanks to Esa for the chocolate chip cookies. As I'm enjoying them now, part of a nutritious breakfast.

I missed most of Blind Johnny Death's set ( I had to work  ) but everything was cool. Esa and I ended up leaving right before Hair Force One played, because at that point...I was really thirsty and the old eyes were starting to burn too badly. Awesome bands, Rockpagians, and helping out the children.

Rob, let me know when you are playing somewhere other than City Limits and we'll come out. I was in a crabby mood to begin with. You guys sounded great.

The Nightcrawlers, one word, SMOKED!

Plazma, as groovy as always.

Moment of the Night: Watching Victor and Iva's faces when Hexhed began Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Band Name"....and continued to play the whole song through!

I was there... in the parking lot. It was nuts-to-butts out there, and late, so we wound up at the Blind Jonny/Aldo's show rather than park a mile away. Wish we'd have made the hike now, though. Sounds like quite a party.
BJD rocked, too.--------->JMS

Definately a fun night. Got to see a lot of bands I didn't have a chance to see. Whenever we have off weekends, I'll be going to see these bands again. I'll admit that I wasn't sure if I'd like BJD, but I really enjoyed the vibe they gave off. Nightcrawlers were damn tight and I liked the Zep cover. Nicely done. Plazma's set was cool. I like hearing instrumentals every once in a while and I thought the song you guys kicked off with was cool. Hexhed rocked, which I had no doubt they would. Aside from Rob's drumming, it sounded pretty good LoL j/k man. I'll be coming out to see you guys again as soon as I can. It was funny to tell Hatch that he and I took guitar at PSU Altoona together. I do have to apologize for my performance, though. I have been fighting like hell to keep myself from getting the flu that's been going around, but it finally caught up with me Saturday night and took one hell of a toll on my voice. I have no speaking voice, let alone singing voice right now. Thank god we have this coming weekend off LoL. Anyway, great job to all the bands involved and to JP for putting together a great show for a great cause.

Sidenote to Rob....Wonder if the crab got that fish down yet?

Did you ever get to tell Claudio about that? He was all stressed at the bar. That would have been great to see the news broke to him.

That sucks. Maybe we should buy a bigger crab to eat that crab and see if that works.

Saturday night was awesome! Lots of bands playing different styles of music......somthing for everybody! I actually never got to see BJD, Plasma, Nightcrawlers or HF1 before this night and I gotta tell ya, There is some freaking talent in this area!

BJD......I have to admit, when I saw that stand-up bass and the drummer with just the snare, and the singer with a harmonica, I didnt know what to say or think! These guys got the party started!!!

Plasma..... These dudes are the ultimate JAM band! When the bassist broke a string, These guys kept the "mood" by continuing to jam, feeding off each other. They got me pumped and ready to play! I'll be catching them again very soon!

Nightcrawlers.....one fucking word......WOW! This band has it all! After hearing the guitarist play his solos, i gotta tell ya, I was blown away! I did get to chat with him for a minute after they were done. I had to tell him that his playing reminded me of "Eric Johnson".

HF1...... After we finished playing, These guys got me up on that dance floor!!! and believe me, this is not an easy task because I have got to be the worlds worst dancer! (just ask my wife! haha) They played the 80's rock tunes so well that it was like seeing/hearing Motley Crue and Ratt live! That singer has got the pipes! Just 1 request for these guys.....Play some MAIDEN next time I get to see ya!

This show was for a great cause and Im glad that me and the rest of the hexhed boys got to b a part of it! Thanx "city limits", Q-94, Pa. musician mag., and everyone else involved.

much respect,

Chris

Who knew when we were picking out Mary Had A Little Lamb, that'd we be doing this stuff years later, and much less, meet up on the same stage! Awsome. Best Gen Ed credit ever, hehehe.

I think we can smack Vic around a little and get that in the set list again.

Loved BJD. Would def see those guys again. And I know some of us will be seeing Hexhead in the future.

Thanks for the love for the Bears JP. I'll send over a spankin next time around. LOL! :D
The person below me enjoys a good spanking.
