fresh shows
what do you do to keep your show fresh and unpredictable?? what do you do to awe me? i think live shows are slowly becoing a thing of past, so many less people showing up than 5 years ago so where are your lasers??

well in all honesty if you're a big fan of a band, or if they're that good - a live show wont ever stale itself out. I'll give you an example..
This past Saturday nite, I was in Pittsburgh for the Eyes of Anguish, From Dissension, A Well Thought Tragedy show. Ive seen From Dissension 3 times now, they have played the same material every show Ive been 2 (minus 2 new songs) - yet everytime I go see them, its like Ive never seen them before. The raw energy, the noise, the crowd reaction, the stage presents, the energy.. everything, is like it's brand fucking new - if a band is good like that, they'll be the same for you - it'll be like you've never seen them before.

Show up at the Post Wednesday. I'll give you some attitude. Oops, forgot you don't have enough attitude and EN_ER_GY to let us know who you are. You lack what you accuse us of lacking: balls.
You're the big expert. So school me. Don't reply to this post here, reply in person. I'm calling you out.
My name is John Stevens. What's yours?-------->JMS

John, or songsmith, has at least 3 different musical projects that I know of and he plays several instruments VERY well! no surrender, I truly do feel sorry for you...what a sorry existance, not coming out of your cave, being a part of life and meeting a lot of fine people - and that is how I would classify EVERYONE I've met so far...whether we've always agreed or not, we have had respect for one another. Plus, I've gotten a lot a GREAT hugs!
It seems you're content to simply Troll on here and constantly cause trouble, or to again try and insult the great Musicians and Owners of the Venues they've played at for years. They don't like it and there are those of us who are loyal friends, patrons and fans, who also don't like it. It's not to late for you to change...

I'm gonna go ahead and respond to the original question posed by this thread, and not be a d*ck, either.
I keep from getting stale by changing things up outside the bill-paying gigs. I've played, seriously now: gospel, speed metal, hair-band metal, classic rock, line-dance country, electric blues and very soon, honkytonk/americana... that's for money... at least semi-professionally. I've dabbled in punk, funk, folk, pop, country blues and bluegrass, meaning I've played those types of individual songs, and was paid to do so. I say that because I feel you need to be somewhat good at what you do in order to expect to be paid for it, not that I'm money-hungry.
I also play a bunch of instruments, not to be cool or anything, but because either I was moved by the sound of a particular instrument, like harmonica or lap steel, or an instrument was made available to me, which I sometimes see as a challenge. At this point I play guitar, bass, the aforementioned harmonica and lap steel, dobro (yeah, it's different), mandolin, and a little drums and keys... just enough to write songs with. Again, it's rewarding to play a bunch of stuff, but one must bear in mind that I'm not a real standout at any one thing. It really just allows me to do what I do to avoid boredom:
I go out and jam with other bands. I love it. I love that I can be a part of somebody else's art, I love challenge of hitting the note, I love learning and stealing other people's licks outright
and I love the brotherhood that playing music fosters. It can truly be magic, no kidding, and I encourage everyone to play with whomever allows you to sit in... my recent experience with Barney and the Hurricanes shows I still have much to learn, and much fun to be had. My Blind Jonny sit-ins helped me to look at the music I love in a different way, and not be embarrassed to show what I am. I can sit in with Big Jim and RonnyD, or Scream, and it's old friends making music for old friends. I also have friends in Nashville that make me feel like someone likes my original art, too.
When you see Sidestep, it's not all energy and lasers, it's friends busting ass to play as good as we can, and realizing that bar-bands aren't playing at the Civic Arena, we're entertaining a relatively small bar crowd who aren't just there to see us. I seldom get bored, I can look over at Tim and giggle like an idiot at some barfly. The strummershow isn't about big and brash at all. That's me being my own boss, and helping folks relax with their friends, nothing more. It's easy, 'cause I'm easy. I don't care a lick if I'm playing for 5 people or 800 (I've done both lots of times), it's the same deal. No big attitude, although I'm getting there with the .OO Buck project... I'm kinda punk about it... I hope you like it, but if you don't, tough sh*t, really. I'm having a LOT of fun.
So there you go. I change things up a lot, and try to keep my brain opened up. Anybody do anything different?------->JMS

Gee, after reading this "wonderful" (not) post.... one thing comes to mind to answer to this......
No surrender why the hell dont you do something to make your post more "fresh" and "unpredictable"?? why dont you "AWE" everyone on rockpage?
i think you are sooo predictable with your backlashing here on rockpage!!!
why dont you get on your lil bike and ride over to the bar and watch some of the great performers on this site..... that is if you are even old enough to get into the bar!!!

If it's music you love it never gets old no matter how many times you hear it.
My mom always asks me why I will go attend several Poison shows on the same tour when the songs are pretty much all the same. (I've been known to take in 4 - 5 shows per tour) For me it never gets old because it's a band I love and I always seem to see something I somehow missed at a previous show.

The person below me enjoys a good spanking.

i havent played any shows around here YET. im sure i will at some point after the cd is recorded. as long as there arent any dull spots in the songs (which there wont be) i think the crowd will like it. We will only do ONE cover in a live set though. it wont be anything ever played on the radio. right now, im thinking maybe we will do a "Carnivore" song. there will be plenty of cyanide freeze pops for the people that ONLY want to hear new radio tunes.
i plan to put the audience through an experiance that they will want to be a part of again. i cannot wait, and im sure you cant either.

That's funny.. I just bought the Retaliation Carnivore disc. this past weekend. My tape was useless since I don't even own a tape player anymore. Anyway, those guys are twisted. A sample of lyrics..
Jesus, I beg of thee, don't take my life
Return me to the womb from which I was torn
Birth is a sin and the punishment is death
I wish you had left me unborn.
Jesus, I beg of thee, don't take my life
Return me to the womb from which I was torn
Birth is a sin and the punishment is death
I wish you had left me unborn.
