Scott Stapp - The Great Divide .. one word = awesome !
I got an advance copy of this cd. Seeing that this was his first solo cd away from creed I was thinking that it wouldn't be to great. But I was wrong, it is awesome !
This thing kicks some serious butt. He has some songs on here that are heavier than he was with creed, you can hear the little things that made creed in the cd, and you can see that it is the same message that he had with creed.
I would advice anyone to get this cd - It blows me away. The wait an anticipation is over, It is an amazing cd. I give it a deff 9 ... minus one because I am still upset that creed broke up ..
As for favorite song off it I would have to say: "justify" ...

Hmph. I guess I'm on the other side of the fence on this one. I loved Creed's first album. But everything after that sounded the same and pompous and overblown, with Scott hitting the "Jesus Christ" pose in every video, and driving the band towards something that they didn't want to be, that being a Christian band. On an older version of their website, one of the FAQ's was "Is Creed a Christian band?" and the answer was an emphatic "No". Drummer Scott Phillips even said that while they wrote about spirituality, they were not a Christian band, and had no desire to be so. But Scott's drive and bull-headedness was what tore that band apart.
And it's funny to me that not only does Scott's new album sound exactly like *GASP* Creed, so does Alter Bridge. They even went out and got a Scott Stapp soundalike for a singer.
The only post-Creed project that I've dug from any of the former members of the band is Dark New Day. That band features Creed's former touring bassist, along with former members of Stuck Mojo and Sevendust, and boy, do they RIP!

Dood...
I agree with Kevin, I thought Creed's first album was awesome, and powerful. Everything else after that just sort of sucked. Then again, he gets paid more money to suck than we do to play well. So...it's a moot point really.

LMAO. He is quite the pretentious fuck. His dad seems like an even bigger idiot. Then again, I never got along with the ultra-conservative, ultra-religious folk.SpellboundByMetal wrote:but i was always distracted by the overwhelming need to want to kick scott stapp's ass.
I really dug the first two Creed albums. The third one had a few good tunes on it, but I think that they were getting a little too commercial for my taste. That's not a slam against them as artists or musicians; I just wasn't digging what they were putting out.
I do remember their touring bassist though. He played a Stingray (I believe it was sunburst). He was pretty bad ass. Then again, I always thought that Brian Marshall was a pretty good Rock player. Tremonti's awesome though and has some of the best tone I've ever heard.

Yes they did denied that they were christian rock. But if you read the alter bridge web site you will see why they split and also you will see that tromonti and stapp never argued about the message, in fact they agreed on it. And they also said that alter bridge is "spirital" .. So I guess you can probably put both stapp and alter bridge back in the same category as they were together.ToonaRockGuy wrote:Hmph. Stapp does get a little precarious, but he is a good song writer and his music is good. Name a rock musician who don't ?? I've seen some that were more of an idiot than he was/is. I'm not going to sit here and defend him or not defend him. I just happen to like his stuff ..
1) Question:
Was there a definitive moment in time when you knew Creed was over?
Flip:
There were many definitive moments, but our tour of 2002 was a very long year and ended on a low point for us. It just felt like it was time to move on. After some time off we really just felt that it wasn’t working out.
2) Question:
What were the circumstances?
Mark and Flip:
We were just going different directions, he had a lot going on his life personally and professionally and we just wanted to play music. After taking a break it was apparent that Scott wanted to make a studio record but not tour as much and we wanted to tour and get back to work. When we got together to do the next record, it just wasn’t happening musically. There was no progress being made so we just decided to part ways. There’s no animosity there. We talked on the phone and wished each other good luck.
Speaks for itself .. Flip is scott philips ..Question:
Are the band and album spiritual? Did you try to go in a more secular direction? How different will it be lyrically? The album is entitled ONE DAY REMAINS – that seems spiritual.
Flip:
It’s not super spiritual, but the band members are all spiritual. Spirituality will always be a part of who we are but the album’s more about life experiences. You can take from it what you will but it’s not an agenda of ours. There was no difference in opinion between Tremonti and Stapp when it came to the direction of Creed’s message. We’re not trying to be secular or spiritual; we just want to express positivity in our lives.

I have Creed's first 2 CDs, never quite got around to getting the third...there just didn't seem to be enough to warrant purchasing it.
Stapp's Father is a Preacher, was way too strict...and he rebelled against that big time. I suppose it comes down to what a perosn believes Creed was. For me, I don't feel Creed was a "Christian" band. Were they a heavily "Spiritual" band? Most definitely.

I came to the conclusion Stapp had a bit of an attitude when I heard about his stage presence at a concert a friend of mine attended. For someone who has musical talent, I didn't think he'd be the type to be an asshole on stage and offend his fans. I over looked that and still loved Creed's music. I agree that they are spiritual, just makes it ironic.

I like this cd for one reason only....It shows who really wrote most of Creeds songs. Mark Tremonti. Scott Stapp is a pissy little prick. Stapp took all the credit for everything. The only hit that stapp actually wrote was With Arms Wide Open. Tremonti wrote my own prison, Higher, Torn, One, My Sacrifice, And all the other songs that made them extremely popular.

The "only" song Stapp wrote was "With Arms Wide Open"? Are you certain about that, as I seem to recall at least ONE more was about how he "should have been dead"...
and any way, it was Stapp's voice that carried those songs, no matter who wrote them. Maybe I'll want to own his new CD, maybe I won't,
I'll decide for myself.
Although I liked Creed initially, I happened to be at a concert where Scott
Stapp. literally destroyed that image for me. He was a total asshole to the fans, as well as his bandmates. He was totally unprofessional on every level. I feel Tremonti is an awesome guitarist, and the rest of the
band was tight as well. As far as Alter Bridge; similar music, etc., but
the vocalist has far better range than Stapp. I have heard the first cut
of Stapp's new album and its okay, but I believe it will be a long time before he convinces former fans. I also feel it will be a long long time before he is back on top of his game.
Sad that a good band had to break up, but egos have a tendency to do this.
My opinion only. You are entitled to yours, and I respect it.

This Thread is the first I'd ever heard that Stapp is a jerk...he very well may be...I've heard that John Denver was a major jerk, too...for me it's about the message in the music...Denver is dead so I don't care how he treated fans and I'll most likely never see Stapp in Concert, so I don't care what his stage prescense is like. Not all stars can handle fame well.
Toona, what you had said about Stapp's poses in the videos? I think I've seen part of 1 Creed video, possibly "With Arms Wide Open"...any way, aren't they called "Directors", Toona? They're told what to do in these Videos and once they've signed on the dotted line, have little control, they have to do what they're told - at least I'm fairly confident that's how that business works!

VH1's "Behind The Music: Creed" absolutely made me laugh my ass off. You know the drill, band faces adversity, then overcomes it to become great.
The Creed story was, in a nutshell, "Band forms, starts to develop a following, then ...
DUM, DUM, DUUUUMMMM ...
... lead singer Scott Stapp gets caught smoking marijuana in college one time (this is the adversity, BTW) and puts the band's future in jeopardy ... Somehow, they overcome this tremendous hurdle and rose to the top ..." LOL
I can remember watching this and saying to myself, "In the Mötley Crüe episode, Nikki Sixx dies, then comes back to life, and Vince Neil kills Razzle in a car crash, among 1,000 other f*cked up things that has happened over the years in Camp Crüe ... this Creed installment is the most pussy episode of BTM I've ever sat through ..."
Old Creed (first album) = good stuff. After that, kinda sappy, kinda whiny ... but that newer Creed stuff still kills at karaoke for some reason. When I drank, I always got weighted down with chips every time I did "With Arms Wide Open."
Yes, I was a karaoke whore at one time and I exploited it to the tune of many, many free rounds. Still got out when I have the chance, but, these days, please buy me a Diet Pepsi.

WELL i still love their music, as for what was said about the song writting, Scott wrote most of the lyrics and mark wrote the music, LIKE yankee said dont matter who wrote the song its who sings it that makes the song!!
Aerosmiths " i dont wanna miss a thing" was written by someone who wrote it for them to sing!!! They didnt even write it their self and made a hit with someone elses work!! As many singers /band etc do.
Alter bridge was just dumb. They go out and get another singer to sound just like Scott!! What the hell, they needed to make their own sound!!Why would you dis-band to go out and get a new band to sound like your old band. Plus they did this, and NOW they are openers for bigger bands....WTF! Why would you go from being famous to be semi famous? kind of stupid if you ask me.Plus i think Tremonti was adick anyway! But if you look at most muscians,,,,, most of them are DIcks. Granted they're a few that are nice and great to the fans!!
I went to every creed concert that came around here, and i was blown away with their performance everytime.
As for CREEDS BTM on VH1, i think it was ok. Who cares that motley crue are more drugs booze and women. Just cause they were o-tards in their day and make a more interesting story, doesn't make everyone elses life story shit!!!
But this is my opinion. I may have a different view on things then some of you , and some of you have different views on stuff then i. Thats what makes having an opinion GREAT!!!

I couldn't agree more. Although I have always like Tremonti's work when he's been allowed to play (like a couple ditties on the first album) even when his chops weren't what they are nowSpellboundByMetal wrote:a couple songs on creed's first album were ok....but i was always distracted by the overwhelming need to want to kick scott stapp's ass.

No, that's the way the music business works. There are many bands that once filled areans, but they now do club dates. You're hot one minute, then you're not. There's only been a handful of acts that have been consistently on top over a span of decades. Also, just because you're signed to a major label, moving a respectable amount of units, and playing to packed venues doesn't mean that you're wealthy either.Bit*chenWomen1029 wrote: Plus they did this, and NOW they are openers for bigger bands....WTF! For being a new band, Alter Bridge is already in a good position. Opening for national acts and having major radio/television airplay without having to go through the lumps and bullshit of being a local band trying to fight its way into the big leagues isn't a bad place to be. Trust me.

I never really got into Creed either. I like the first album, as almost everyone did, but to me, it's like the first Bush album. Damn good songs, but then the sound gets beat to death. It just seemed like after 3 or so albums, they never really made any progression or direction. Same sounds, same content, same song layout, ect.
It used to piss me off seeing the My Own Prison video and that prision, I always thought MTV was getting cool again and playing the 'Sweating Bullets Video'
I also heard that the singer for Alter Bridge is actually the kid that took the singer's place (at the end of the movie) of that Rockstar movie with Jennifer Aniston. You know, the kid from the crowd he gives the mic when he realizes what it's 'REALLY' about.
Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, Mac, that is Myles Kennedy, the lead singer of Alter Bridge. The info can be found here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1042872/Mackovyak wrote:
