Sad News: Alfreda at the Ferris Wheel

Post by Jim Price »

I received word that Alfreda, the proprietor and matriarch of the Ferris Wheel Tavern on top of the Buckhorn, passed away on Thursday. She would have turned 80 later this month.

"Freddy" was one of a kind. She could be fiery and catankerous when she wanted to be, but after you got to know her, she was kindly and pleasant. I'll remember, while she was in better health, chatting with her when I'd drop off Pennsylvania Musician magazines each month. She would often be watching soaps or cleaning up the bar when I would stop by, and she would always offer me a soda.

Yours truly, Troy Earnest and friends help Ferris Wheel matriarch Alfreda celebrate her 77th birthday in November, 2002.

Chicksinga gave several of us the sad news last night...it had been June or so since I'd been to The Ferris Wheel...I didn't really know Freddy that well, but from the times I spoke to her, I gathered that she was a special Lady. I can see her sitting just inside the door...she will be missed.
