Great point. If you're going to drop everything, go for broke and move to the 'Burgh, you may as well go where the market and "scene" actually are. You'd stand a better chance of "making it" in either of the towns Spellbound referenced than in Pitt.SpellboundByMetal wrote:if youre going to relocate with a band you should probably go where the action is. Los angeles or new york comes to mind. take the BIG plunge! i would if i had the chance!
Either way, worst case scenario, you'd be stuck in a big city with no money. What's the difference at that point between Pittsburgh and Los Angeles? Weather's nicer in California. I'd rather be poor and it's 75 degrees out than poor and 10 degrees. Brrr...

Agreed, if you're going to go...get to the big city (and by big city I mean New York, Los Angeles, etc.)...Pittsburgh is not really taking a risk musically, and it's not really that good of a scene. If you really want out, honestly, I would get some stuff in Pittsburgh, hook up with a touring band coming through, get some dates with them to open, get some contacts, build a fanbase and then tour the shit out of this country. You won't make it any faster in Pittsburgh than here. You need a fanbase in many places...you have to tour, and you can tour just as good from here and doing shows in Pittsburgh than by living there.BadDazeRob wrote:Great point. Either that or go to a huge scene, like LA. But, I would get contacts, and tour like a motherfucker myself.
If youth knew; if age could.
First of all, I think you have the right idea and your bandmate does not.
I'm sure there are certain steps that need to be taken, but I don't think there is a set formula.
My opinion would be get a better quality demo to shop around 'cuz you said the quality of yours sucked. Then rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, all the while trying to book more shows. The more shows you play and the more time you log in together, the tighter you should get. Hopefully by playing more shows, you'll develop more of a following.
There was another post about having a product ready before you go out so make sure your ready for opening situations as well as headlining situations.
If you're willing to relocate, obviously your willing to travel. Try to get jobs in the 'Burgh and other places while keeping where you live at now home base. At least if you can get shows there and for whatever reason something fails, you're not left with nothing.
For some this may be a cautious approach, but it's just my opinion.
And NEVER underestimate yourself in this business. Be confident in what you do.
If you guys are willing to take the big plunge in this early stage of your game, then by all means go where the action or "scene" is located. Punkinhead and Baddazerob made some excellent comments on that.
Good Luck!
