Well I really hate to say this but I got John Denver, Swing Out Sister, Madonna, Breakfast Club, and the ever popular Snow. I guess it could have been worse or maybe not. LOL

I forgot about Madonna, a couple of later CDs, "This Used to be My Playground" and "Take a Bow" come to mind, without searching for them right now...and I'm an unabashed John Denver fan, although "I'm Sorry", someone's birthday song, IMO wasn't one of his best tunes.
"Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Looking For Space", "Back Home Again", "The Eagle and the Hawk", those are much better.

I have a thing for sound effects. Thin Ice used an LP of sound effects on a demo once... the song was called, "The City," and we mixed in some city traffic and footsteps on a sidewalk, to good effect, but if you listened closely, you could hear the record scratches and background noise. Ever since, I've collected sound effects recordings. I like this time of year, because you can get Halloween sound effects CD's really cheap.
Beyond that, there was a CD of Cheap Trick covers, done techno, I have somewhere. Amazingly bad. Just woefully bad.------->JMS

8 Tracks...I have my collection of them...why I'm holding onto them, I have no idea! It's not like I'll be playing them any time soon, now is it?

Van Halen, Cheap Trick, heck "Cornerstone" and "Pieces of Eight" appear almost brand new. I have a Bee Gees 8 Track that my brother handed to me one day and said I could keep it. It's Pink (Gee, I wonder why he didn't want it?

) and a "Greatest Hits", Vol. 1 most likely, pre Saturday Night Fever! There's a tune on it, "In The Morning", that I haven't seen on smaller compliation CDs. I haven't heard that tune in many years, but I haven't forgotten it.

No, I'm talking about an 8 Track, but I do have that vinyl album, somewhere, LOL! Yes, "Tragedy" is on it. An ex-boyfriend bought me it for my birthday, trying to get me back - didn't work! He refused when I tried to give it back to him and also showed up with a HUGE Teddy Bear, which when he left that, it was given to my youngest nephew, who was 1 or 2 then. Thanks for the memories!

The 8 Track (I had to go dig it out!) is from 1973, "Best of Bee Gees, Vol. 2", and the tune is actually titled "Morning Of My Life" (In The Morning)...I think it went something like this..."In the morning of my life, how come the minutes take so long to tick away? Please be patient with your life, it's only morning and you're still to live your day." Well, I'd say I'm in the Afternoon now, for sure!

I always liked 8 Tracks, one could move around, unlike cassettes. There are many tunes I hear and to this day, I recall where in it the Track would change!

Don't u miss that click sound as the 8 track player changed programs! LOL Now those are memories.

Lenny and The Swigtones, yes, Lenny and Swiggy did make a LP, and I have it and play it late at parties for a good laugh.

This album is pretty cool. In one of the songs, you can hear one of Eddie's strings break, his guitar goes to shit because of the Floyd Rose bridge, but he keeps on playing and the tape keeps rolling.

Mine too. I still play it. It sounds good, but sometimes the tape will break right when it switches tracks. I still have about 100 8-tracks. A lot of them could be listed in this topic.

Ron, I love that record. You can still DL songs from it because I understand it was HUGE in Japan, it was the theme to a cartoon show.

As far as 8-tracks... we couldn't live without 'em back in the day. RobTheDrummer, ask Mark M. to tell you about the Loudmouth 8-track portable he carried around for years. I remember you had to jam a vintage 70's comb with a handle in the slot to get mine to play right.-------------->JMS

Hahaha, I remember stuffing matchbooks into mine (JCPenney MCS series) until I learned how to align the head. Then I found myself tweaking it for more highs on different tapes, so the cover never got put back on.

We talkin' 8 tracks I have Dolly Parton - Here You Come Again, Barry Manilow - Live, Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack, and a shyt load of Disco. Funny thing is that my 8 track player is hooked up 2 my $800 stereo! I'm actually lookin' 4 a hook up 4 the computer so I can burn the 8 tracks to CD.

When i had my first car in 1970-1, a 63' cherry red buick skylark with a 304 cu. in. that could burn rubber by just touching the pedal, 8 tracks were the only way to play.

I can remember a few Beatles, a few Stones, Grass Roots, and James Gang Funk 49 as my first few 8 tracks.

I even had Dickey Betts "Highway Call", his first solo on 8 track.

Songsmith was right, there were hard to get to play right, but remember hearing that they actually were better recordings than cassettes, does anyone know??

I've already heard stories of how he used to find old ones and re-spool them on the tracks and everything! He said he had a bunch of them.

8 tracks were better than cassettes sound quality-wise, since the tape was wider.
The problem with them was the spooling mechanism. As one end of the loop of tape was wound on to the spool, the other end was pulled out from the middle, slowly wearing off the magnetic coating on the tape. Like an LP, the more you play it, the worse the sound quality becomes.
