Alright, maybe time for one of these......

What are you all time favorite lyric lines?? Oh the choices.......

Mine:

"For the words of the prophets were written on the studio wall" (Spirit of Radio - Rush)

"Life reveals what is dealt through seasons; circle comes around each time" (Above - Mad Season)

'When you move like a jellyfish, rhythm is nothing, you go with the flow and you don't stop" (Bubbletoes - Jack Johnson)

"Another moment of silence, just for myself' (Shelf - Korkworm Cyanide :)) )

"And if you ever open you eyes, you won't find me standing in line, Caroline, it's a waste of time" (Caroline - The Clarks)

"Now I'm getting old, don't wear underwear, I don't go to church and somebody stole my hair!!" (Pencil Thin Mustache - Buffett)

" I saw angels in the architecture, spinning in infinity... Halleluiah..." --Call Me Al, Paul Simon

" I know they're only words, that everybody uses
But to me they're flowers that grew out of scars and bruises..." -- I Could Not Send You Me, Skip Ewing

" I used to be lonely, 'til I learned about living alone
I found out the things to keep my mind on..." --Keep Pushin' On, REO Speedwagon

" Please come to Denver with the snowfall
We'll move up into the mountains so far that we can't be found
And throw 'I Love You' echoes down the canyon
Then lie awake at night, 'til they come back around..." --Please Come To Boston, Dave Loggins

"You can choose a ready guide,
In some celestial voice...
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice..

You can choose from phantom fears,
And kindness that can kill...

I will choose a path that's clear,
I will choose Freewill."

-Freewill by Rush

And my other favorite...

"When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born
And there's a backwards old town that's often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn.

Chorus:
And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away

Well, sometimes we'd travel right down the Green River
To the abandoned old prison down by Airdrie Hill
Where the air smelled like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill.

Repeat Chorus:

Then the coal company came with the world's largest shovel
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man.

Repeat Chorus:

When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am."

Some more John Prine....

There's a hole in daddy's arm, where all the money goes.
Jesus Christ died for nuthin' I suppose.
(Sam Stone)

There were spaces between Donald and everything he said.
Stangers had forced him to live in his head.

I must have finished my last care with that beer. - Lagwagon, Today

I ain't no goddamn son-of-a-bitch. - Misfits, Where Eagles Dare

I killed a man in Reno, just to watch him die. - CASH!, Folsom Prison Blues

Pretty much any Mike Ness (Social Distortion) lyric.

Agreed!!! Anything John Prine writes should be in this list.

Fbooth will remember this one! How ya been Joe!
War Pigs
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
LS Fiore does construction : Jeff Wallach!

I'd kill myself for you,
i'd kill you for myself. This love, Pantera

So I might steal your diamonds
I'll bring you back some gold
I'm no angel, Gregg Allman

Charlie Daniels. Long Haired Country Boy
People say I'm no good
I'm crazy as a loon
'cause I get stoned in the morning,
I get drunk in the afternoon.
Kinda like my old blue tick hound
I like to lay around in the shade.
And I ain't got no money
but I damn sure got it made.
'Cause I ain't askin' nobody for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone.

Preacher man talking on TV,
puttin' down the rock and roll.
Wants me to send a donation
'cause he's worried about my soul.
He said, "Jesus walked on the water."
And I know that it's true.
But sometimes I think that preacher man
would like to do a little walking too.
But I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
you just leave this long haired country boy alone.

A poor girl wants to marry
a rich girl wants to flirt.
A rich man goes to college
a poor man goes to work.
A drunkard wants another drink of wine,
and a politician wants your vote.
I don't want much of nothing at all,
but I will take another toke.
'Cause I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
if I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
you just leave this long haired country boy alone.

"We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds, in the name of destiny and in the name of God.

And you can see them there, on Sunday morning, stand up and sing about, what it's like up there,
They called it Paradise, I don't know why, you call some place Paradise, kiss it good bye."

"The Last Resort" - The Eagles

I feel all the lyrics in that tune are noteworthy, but the ones above are what have always gotten to me...

"War Pigs" was VERY excellently done by Half Tempted at the Hitching Post Saturday night...even with the audience members screwing up the lyrics, "oh Lord yeah"! :)

Sometimes, the innocent songs have lyrically palpable qualities:

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup (Crowded House ~ Don't Dream it's Over)

THE END
(Ian Anderson-A Passion Play)

We sleep by the ever-bright hole in the door...
eat in the corner, talk to the floor.
Cheating the spiders who come to say "please’’.
Politely,they bend at the knees.
Well, I’ll go to the foot of our stairs.

Old gentlemen talk of when they were young.
Of ladies lost and erring sons.
Lace-covered dandies revel with friends.
Pure as the truth tied at both ends.
Well I’ll go to the foot of our stairs.

Scented cathedral -- spire pointed down.
We pray for souls in kentish town.
A delicate hush the gods floating by
wishing us well -- pie in the sky.

God of ages lord of time -- mine is the right to be wrong.
Well I’ll go to the foot of our stairs.

Jack rabbit mister: spawn a new breed
of love-hungry pilgrims, no bodies to feed.
Show me a good man and I’ll show you the door.
The last hymn is sung and the devil cries ``more.’’

Well, I’m all for leaving and that being done, I’ve put in a request
To take up my turn...in that forsaken paradise that calls itself ``hell’’
Where no-one has nothing and nothing is well meaning fool,
pick up thy bed and rise up from your gloom smiling.
Give me your hate and do as the loving heathen do.

Colors I’ve none, dark or light, red, white or blue.
Cold is my touch -- freezing.
Summoned by name -- I am the overseer over you.
Given this command to watch o’er our miserable sphere.
Fallen from grace, called on...to bring sun or rain.
Occasional corn from my oversight grew.

Fell with mine angels from a far better place.
Offering services for the saving of face.
Now you’re here, you may as well admire
all whom living has retired...from the benign reconciliation.

Legends were born surrounding mysterious lights seen in the sky--flashing.
I just lit a fag and then took my leave in the blink of an eye.
Passionate play -- join round the maypole in dance, primitive rite, wrongly.
Summoned by name -- I am the overseer over you.

Flee the icy Lucifer, oh he’s an awful fellow!
What a mistake! I didn’t take a feather from his pillow.
Here’s the everlasting rub: neither am I good or bad.
I’d give up my halo for a horn and the horn for the hat I once had.

I’m only breathing there’s life on my ceiling, the flies there are sleeping quietly.

Twist my right arm in the dark, I would give two or three for
One of those days that never made impressions on the old score.
I would gladly be a dog barking up the wrong tree.
Everyone’s saved -- we’re in the grave, see you there for afternoon tea.

Time for awaking the tea lady’s making a brew-up and baking new bread.

Pick me up at half past none, there’s not a moment to lose.
There is the train on which I came; On the platform are my old shoes.
Station master rings his bell, Whistles blow and flags wave.
A little of what you fancy does you good or so it should.

I thank everybody for making me welcome I’d stay but my wings have just dropped off.

Hail! Son of kings! Make the ever-dying sign
Cross your fingers in the sky for those about to be.
There am I waiting along the sand.
Cast your sweet spell upon the land and sea.

Magus perde, take your hand from off the chain.
Loose a wish to still the rain...the storm about to be.
Here am I voyager into life.
Tough are the soles that tread the knife’s edge.

Break the circle, stretch the line, call upon the devil.
Bring the gods, the gods’ own fire in the conflict revel.
The passengers upon the ferry crossing waiting to be born.
Renew the pledge of life’s long song rise to the reveille horn.

Animals queueing at the gate that stands upon the shore.
Breathe the ever-burning fire that guards the ever-door.

Man, son of man. Buy the flame of ever-life
Yours to breathe and breath the pain of living, living be!
Here am I! Roll the stone away!
From the dark into ever-day.

There was a rush along the fulham road into the ever-passion play.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...

segments from Civil War by GnR are brilliant...

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That YOU CAN'T TRUST FREEDOM
WHEN IT'S NOT IN YOUR HANDS
WHEN EVERYBODY'S FIGHTIN'
FOR THEIR PROMISED LAND

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store - Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway
You better call me a doctor - feelin' no pain!

Ahhh, so many to choose from....

I'm going out tonight and I'm going out drinking...
Don't bother waiting up 'cause I'm coming home stinking...
--Punk And Belligeret by WarriorSoul

I can take all your blasphemy
I can take all your sins
I can end any moment
And let a new one begin
--To Have and Have Not by Tiamat

You seemed so innocent you had me blinded
What good is all your beauty, there's nothing behind it
--Living Without You by Shotgun Messiah

And from my fav local band....

Don't you know life's like my golfball drive,
sometimes it's good, sometimes it's lost in the woods....
--Lost in the Woods by Roadkill

You said you'd be home half a day ago,
I can't believe you lied.
You told me you were over that thing
of F*ckin' other guys
--Foot in the Door by Roadkill

Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's...

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
One...

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one
But we're not the same
Well we
Hurt each other
Then we do it again
You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

U2 - One

"And if I don't make it, know that, I loved you all along...." OLP - 4 AM

"Why are we here...because we're here...roll the bones" - Rush

"then I got my Mary pregnant, and man that was all she wrote, and for my nineteenth birthday I got a Union card and a wedding coat,
we went down to the courthouse, and the judge put it all to rest,
no wedding day smiles, no walk down the aisles,
no flowers, no wedding dress" - The Boss - The River

"and it's all good I've got all the friends I'll ever need, cause self-medicating is such a great disease" - Third Standard "14 Days in a Bender" - a little props for myself

"it ain't no use to sit and wonder why babe, if you don't know by now, and it ain't no use to sit and wonder why babe, it don't matter anyhow, when the rooster crows at the break of dawn, look out your window, and I'll be gone, you're the reason I'm traveling on, so don't think twice it's alright" - Bob Dylan

and pretty much any other U2 song, cause Bono is the man

La la la, la la la, la la la, la la la, la la la, la la la, la la la (Kylie Minogue -- Can't Get You Outta My Head)

Oh we oh, oh we oh, oh we oh (Baltimora -- Tarzan Boy)

And please come on peace, we beseech you, Only a landing will teach them, Our earth may never survive, So do come, we beg you, Pleas interstellar policeman, Oh, won't you give us a sign, Give us a sign that we've reached you (The Carpenters -- Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft (The recognized theme for International Contact Day))

I hate everything about you, why do I love you, I hate everything about you, why do I love (Three Days Grace -- I Hate Everything About You)

And lets not forget the most important lyrics ever:
So come on baby, won't you show some class
Why you want to move so fast
We don't have to take our clothes off
To have a good time
Oh no
We could dance and party all night
And drick some cherry wine
(Jermaine Stewart -- We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off)

I think Mr. Stewart missed the mark there because after dancing, partying all night long, and drinking cherry wine, wouldn't it end with you taking your clothes off???

Something to ponder me thinks!!!! LOL

Didya ever notice that on the lyric sheet, the words for FREEWILL are "if you choose not to decide, you cannot have made a choice." Must have been a last minute change.

Hey Bobby, I remember that one well. Still makes me laugh hard when I think of it. In fact I was just thinking about that a few days ago. There's probably not a single day goes by that something I hear or see reminds me of Jeff.

All is going well in the Burgh, but I miss everyone back home. I got a real itch to come play some blues with the 'Canes some night.

You know, when I saw the first few lines of War Pigs, I instantly thought of Joe singing the L.S. Fiore line! I was pretty drunk the first time I heard that, but apparently not drunk enough, because it sticks with me 15+ years later.
I made up a version about people sitting on their asses, at computer learning classes. My friend Mark was at Computer Learning Center at the time, studying Lotus and other eventually pointless stuff at the time, and paying a lot of money to do so. He didn't think it was all that funny. ---------->JMS
