He was doing that when he was with Amen at a show I saw in Philly once too. Unreal!

You know who I forgot about, one of my biggest local influences- Dave Galazia from Coinmonster, anyone ever see him? That dude smokes, and a hell of a nice guy as well.

I saw Shannon nearly destroy a guy's kit when he was 12 years old. Great drummer, but the other guy probably doesn't think so. :) --->JMS

Rob, you're right. He kicks ass.

I could almost do another answer sheet with everyone who didn't come to mind the first time around (I am an old man after all). But everyone else is picking up on those I left out. Both local and national. Lot of talent around here.

Bonham set the bar high. Great rock drummer in his day. It's just that today, the bar is A LOT HIGHER. There are many drummers today many times better than Bonham.

As an over all drummer , Bonham didn't even come close to many great jazz and big band drummers. Not even close.

There are many drummers around here (local guys) who make Moby Dick sound like childs play.

And I grew up in the Bonham era. I know what he did for rock drummers. It's just that today , he's over rated compared to new standards.

ToonaRockGuy wrote:Okay, since I just got done surfing Neil Peart's Official website, I thought I'd post some questions for the drummers here on Rockpage. Opinions are going to vary, so be gentle with each other. I'm curious to know the following, in your opinions:

1. List your Top 3 favorite drummers of all time. (3 ONLY, please)

2. Who's the most over-rated drummer of all time?

3. Who's the most under-rated drummer of all time?

4. What national drummer(s) do you enjoy watching most?

5. What local drummer(s) do you enjoy watching most?

6. What's your favorite song to play on drums?

7. What drummer made you want to play drums?

Looking forward to the responses!!! Non-drummers are welcome to answer the questions, too.
Actually, this is what the thread is about. Start a Bonham thread and I'll argue there all night with you

FAVES:
Neil Peart
Nicko McBrain
Tommy Lee

OVERRATED:
Peter Criss (look.. I LOVE old school Kiss, but I would like to hear those tunes with Eric Carr playing them)

UNDERRATED:
Nicko McBrain -- I almost never hear him mentioned in these kinds of discussions, and he fucking RULES!
Matt Cameron -- ditto

NATIONALS TO SEE:
Tommy Lee - maybe not technically, but the best, most entertaining soloist ever
Vinnie Paul - I hope he can find a project to do without Darrell... RIP - almost a year now.... can hardly believe it

LOCALS:
John Passarelli - HU BAST!!! :)
Mike Dooley
Jim Bagrosky

FAVE SONG TO PLAY:
The Trooper, Hallowed Be Thy Name (or almost any other Iron Maiden song)
Alive (Pearl Jam) - what a great groove in that tune
Eyes of a Stranger and Anybody Listening? - Queensryche
I'm Broken, Cemetery Gates - Pantera

INSPIRATION TO DRUM:
Peter Criss (contradicting myself a bit, huh?)
Tommy Lee
Bobby Rondinelli - Rainbow video he was in was 1st time I saw someone twirl the sticks mid-song, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever! :P :)
You better call me a doctor - feelin' no pain!

Anybody can cover Bonham.

Bonham couldn't come close to Weckl, Carl Palmer, Steve Smith, Donati, Portnoy, Dennis Chambers. On and on and on................................

Tommy's a good drummer, he's not over rated. People seem to keep him where he belongs. Good solid drummer, lots of flash and showmanship! He brings drums to the masses and inspired a lot in the way Bonham did.
