The Castle Pub Underground - New Venue
Since the LCE won't allow bands on the main floor due to "excessive noise", I am now booking bands for the Dungeon on Friday and Saturday nights. The room is a cool room but it's relatively small, probably would fit 75-100 jam packed. Obviously, I won't be looking for agency bands. I'm looking to make it an underground scene, new bands, punk, rockabilly, metal, smaller local bands that have a loyal local following. I'll be giving bands the door to the Dungeon to start and we'll go from there. If you're interested, give me a call at 814-659-1302. This is gonna be fun.

I haven't got to see a band since I ran sound for Third Standard (last band that played at The Castle).
I have to give them a long overdue shout out for doing one of the most professional things I've EVER seen a band do in this situation. The very second the band found out that there was a noise problem, they all turned their amps down to almost nothing. Steve the drummer instantly muffled his snare to the point you could almost talk over it and he played the rest of his kit as quiet as he could. They didn't just do this for a song or two. They stayed this way the rest of the night. Thanks guys for doing everything you could to try to help the bar from getting a noise violation.
I only get to hang out in Orlando for a few more days

There is an in-house PA, but that is upstairs. Bands are now playing downstairs...NO PA DOWSTAIRS...you need to bring one.

I am aware of the PA UPSTAIRS — played there many times — was wondering if they were going to move the PA DOWNSTAIRS since there's no use for it UPSTAIRS anymore, and so far, haven't seen any one from the bar answer that question ...JayBird wrote:There is an in-house PA, but that is upstairs. WTF?!? So let me get this straight. Loud music from DJs: OK. Loud music from bands: Not OK. Didn't know the ban on noise at Castle only applied to live music.Craven Sound wrote:Well, they still DJ upstairs, so yes there is a use for it.
Why is it acceptible to the PLCB for a DJ to pump amplified, prerecorded music through that sound system upstairs, but if actual musicians with actual instruments plug into the same PA and play music through it, that's a problem?
It seems to me that DJs in general attract the "trouble-making element" more so than bands ever have. Case in point: County Line Inn last Friday night. There's a WHOLE DIFFERENT crowd that shows up on their Friday nights (DJ night) than their Saturday nights (band night). Friday night, out come the guns and knives. Saturday night, people drink, have a good time, go home.
Want more examples? Look no further than places like Classic Attitudes and Club Car which feature mainly DJs as entertainment. Security is tighter than your average airport terminal at Classic Attitudes because of the riff-raff that turns out for the "DJ atmosphere," and the last time I talked to the maintenance guy at Club Car, he said they've been constantly replacing windows, tables and chairs (and calling the local authorities on a regular basis) since they opted for DJs.
This whole situation stinks to high heavens. It's hard not to become a conspiracy theorist when the "Pa. Gestapo" makes irrational moves like this. I feel for you, Dean. Hope things get better up there.

I never really understood why people want to play that loud. Sure, tube amps need to reach a certain amount of gain to reach the "sweet spot", but anything past seven and you're pissing away all of your amp's headroom.
It doesn't make sense too, considering the sweet Carvin set-up at the Castle. If you're running full sound, let the PA do the work.
Remember, tinnitus sucks!
