Damn! 10:00am the following day and no post on the Grimm show? It must have been a helluva show and a long breakfast at Kings. LOL

I'm sure the show was great and I'm looking forward first-hand accounts. (I was going to make the 7+ hour drive to catch the show, but could work it into the schedule. :( )

Looking forward to the details!!!

Friday was a very Grimm night at Peter C's...

Nine months after sowing the demon seed, the Grimm's new "child" was hatched onstage; ushered in with a bunch of new songs and some reminders of a Grimm past, accompanied with various video footage, graphics, photo images and more.

The new Grimm material was edgy yet elaborate in the group's own distinct way. There was a new Grimm 'epic' in "Beyond The Veil," the aggressive rocker "Purifying Fire" (triggered by Scott Botteicher's stunning guitar solo, insane!), "Alone" with its technical Rush-informed flavor and more. And the group seems to be dealing in more current events- and social-geared lyrical themes like corporate greed, the hypocrisies of organized religion and more. And I just wanted to hear "Free Bird" and "Blister In The Sun," damn!

And Jim Zemlock opened the evening with his Oliver Squash presentation, fusing varied acoustic melodies with unexpected bursts of spacey guitar effects and reverb; wild stuff!

It was good to see a large music community contingent present to support this spectacle, including numerous Rockpagers, and members of the House Of Cain, One Gun Salute, Flame Sky, Sidestep, 4 Days Dirty, Beyond Reason, Half Tempted, Vertigo and Fat Vinny organizations representing and showing support - very cool!

And the ritual after-breakfast at King's was entertaining as expected, with such themes as okra, Oprah, ass chowder, half-eaten apples and more brought to the table. But as always, what is discussed at the Grimm breakfast table...STAYS at the Grimm breakfast table.

Kick yourself if you missed or bypassed this show, it was an EVENT! But mark Oct. 29 on your calendars, when The Grimm, The Flame Sky and a Halloween party come together at Peter C's - you KNOW that is going to be a spectacle!!!

And now, some photos from Friday night's festivities...

I caught action from the front of the room...

Well, you KNOW which pic is my favorite!
What a great show! You that missed it, it was quite the feast for the eyes and ears... kind of a high-precision, high-temp, high-octane battering about the face and head. Kinda like being inside a pizza oven, getting kicked in the jimmies... at odd time signatures. Can't wait to hear the new record, especially, "Alone." Thanks again, guys, for a whoopass show.---------->JMS

BTW, speaking of getflashedphotography, is it my twisted sex-starved imagination, or does that shot bear something in common with Elaine Benes' Christmas card? Too late to take it down, I already printed it out and am currently holding it up with one hand.....

Last night was an event to be seen! Twittering with excitement for the past month, I was counting the hours until the show.

Miraculous things happened last night...

I was reinstated as a Grimmette in Training. I feel revirginaolized once again.

I've gotten to see friends that I've not seen in months...

I got to see Rob's head properly attatched to *his* body (not someone elses for a change!) and then I got to kick Rob's ass on the pool table....just to miss and perfectly allign the eight-ball for him to put it in and kick my ass.

I got to see Jim play...and he set the mood of Traveling Minstrel in my mind (thanks to reading the Grimm's pamphlets last night).

And then I got to see the Grimm rock the stage at Petey C's the way it was meant to be rocked. Hard.

The only negative comment that I will express was the heat. It kept us in the back (closest to the exit for me to go out and get some air) and not up front like we were accustomed to. Soooo.... Excellent job boys! That was well worth the wait!

Added bonuses: watching the very very very very stagger-drunk lady take a pee outside in the middle of the street. Entertainment to the max. And of course, JP.

The Grimm's new music was tight! They have taken the time to get some new stuff out and did it ever pay off!! Scott is one hell of a guitarist, I was very impressed. Dom, what can I say? You kicked ass, and you covered up your mistakes well! (well you may have made a mistake, but i didn't catch it) HAHA! Always smiling back there! Kent, you suck cause you are a bassist...No, you kicked ass, lots of changing up the technique and the new stuff seems more melodic than the older stuff, better written! And finally Bob, it's always a pleasure to see you doin your thing up there, and I liked your analogy of 9 months, very creative! See you guys soon...everyone needs to see the new Grimm, especially musicians, you may learn a thing or two.

What can I say? You guys kick ass!

After nine months off, I was worried that people would have forgotten our name....what a wonderful welcome back to the scene! A big shout out to all of our friends (old and new) for turning out for our return....I have to tell you, that last night was the first time I've had butterflies for a Grimm gig since 2003 (Resurruption).

Despite a few small screw-ups (um, well I mean MY screw up... sometimes you just forget that you have another verse to play, right?) the gig went off without a hitch.

A few shout outs:

John and Jodi: You guys gave us our first break and we will never ever forget that. Peter C's will be our home as long as you'll have us. Thanks for having us!

James (AV guy):....dude, in addition to being a great friend, you really made the multimedia part of the show happen! Thanks so much for working your balls off to make it go!

JP: You're the man. Thanks for keeping our name alive in the paper and on the radio as we've retooled.

Bob, Scott, and Dom: Proud to share the stage with you, brothers....and I can't wait to see the direction we end up taking with the new tunes.

Pic of the nite is definitely Esa....you could use that as part of a recruitment campaign for pool leagues!

Rob...I was really hoping for a nice backrub from your big meaty (yet surprisingly soft) drummer hands!

Thanks to all for the support and for bringing us home!

No Kent, you guys do!!

That was an awesome night. A very cool and well put together twin set of material. I love it when I go out and hear nothing but original music all night...a rarity for the area, which is a shame.

And now, since I am back in the metal scene I hope to be sharing a stage with you very soon.

The Grimm comeback show was 2 hours of kick-ass, and ALL original music. soooo good to hear in a local bar. did not even notice that not one cover was played until after the show. they didn't need one. It is great to hear lead solo guitar. it was good in the 60's, and guess what, it is still great in this century.
