Hurricane Katrina Benefit Idea

Post by metal_junky »

Just an idea to throw around but Shade Gap has a all day Band Jam for "Relay for Life" each year. Why not Get one of the big fair grounds too donate there space (I know Huntingdon Fairs grounds has a big stage and plenty of seating) or even get a large building and have a big Band Jam benefiting the victims of hurricane Katrina. We could get ahold of Red Cross and have the blood mobile there. and have all kinds of extra's there too raise money. We can advertise in the area papers, on the radio's and if you have the right connections on TV. If you have more Idea's or info about doing this let me now.

What UP!
Ok, first off my name is Travis Dunn, I am the guitarst for the band Gin n' Juiice, we have already played several different benefits this year and have contributed in a major way to these causes. We aren't a metal band, we are a classic rock- jam band experience that has really worked well for us this year. I just recieved a called from a fan of ours and she was asking me about putting together a benefit for the Horricane Katrina disaster. If your would like to call her and explain what your thoughts are, maybe we could all get together and do this, for one reason, they need it.And I speak for Gin n' Juice, when I say, we will surely play this concert. So please email me at
tmd187@psu.edu, if you would like to talk further.
Peace,
Trav

This thought actually crossed my mind this morning. Put together an all day event (like Ozzfest). Open to any band regardless of what kind of music they play. All monies raised go to charity. Get the tv stations involved. The radio stations (who cares what kind of music they play. It should be a joint effort from all regardless).

It's one hell of an undertaking but would it be possible?
The person below me enjoys a good spanking.

That sounds like a great idea!!!! Sorry we can't help out because we have no bassist right now but if we could we would be there for sure. Do let us know when it is so we can go down and make a contribution there. I know they need every cent they can get. It is really great to see so many people working together to help them. I work for cingular wireless and our company has already flown food and clothing and 1 millon dollars to them, then they are matching are donations dollar for dollar up to 3 millon dollars I was totally blown away by this that's alot of money but it really makes me happy to know that they care as much as everyone else. If we cant make it to the benifit let us know where to send the money food clothes or whatever Kara

This is a GREAT idea! Keep us all posted. "Sound of Silence" is ready to help out any way we can. Our light guy just mentioned the idea of doing something like what you're talk'n about and it can be done if someone can get stuff organized properly! 8)

I was talking to folks at work and we kicked around the idea of waiting a few weeks to get something substantial built - what about a Hurricane Katrina/Halloween Headbanger's Masquarade Ball type deal? If I can get them to bite on it here, I will gladly get a group together to organize it. If you'd be interested let me know - maybe like October 15th or 22nd? Unfortunately I'm assuming a lot of bands are already booked but if you'd want to work with me/us let me know. (we're in Mifflin/Juniata area)

I thought Metal_junky might have been you!

Where are all the other bands on Rockpage? Come one peeps how about some feedback on this subject ! 8)

These people truly need all the help they can get ! We shouldn't limit ourselves to just one benifit for this cause either! If ya can't make it to these areas mentioned PLEASE try to get something in your area going!

It truly brings a tear to my eye knowing that there is around 200 views to this thread and about 9 replies!

A few thoughts on the subject:

1. A month is usually the minimum amount of time needed to put together a successful benefit. That includes booking quality acts, promotion, contacting vendors (if applicable), and most importantly, securing a venue. Which brings me to my next point.....

2. If you sell booze, they will come. The venue doesn't have to be a club, but you should have some sort of suds available for purchase. With the first point though, I'd consider a club due to the climate change which will be occuring within the coming weeks.

3. Gin and Juice kick ass, so they'd definatley be a good addition to any benefit. ;)

I totally agree bassist_25. The suds are a big part of a big show and I,m not to sure if you are permited to have alcohol on Fairgrounds property.

I'm not familiar with the Huntington area at all, other than Lincoln Caverns, the Hoedown and Raystown - a bit.

From the viewpoint of an attendee, to help out a worthy cause, whether a "Project Lifeboat", "Backyard Carnival", "Helping Hands for Hastings" or even a b.y.o.b. benefit venue style ala "End of Summer Jam", is always a "GOOD" time.

Sometimes, the "benefit" alone is enough, as in the very "close to home" reasons for 2 of them..."that could be my son going blind" for one, "my daughter is 15" and "was this their backyard?"...I could almost see the toddler running around, at the other...

Peace,

So far I have only lucked out on Space at 1 place and that is the County Line Inn. (should be enough room) The owner said we could use the bar all day long if we want too and he will even pitch in some cash towards the Hurricane Victims as well. If we can get atleast 5-10 bands and a PA system too use all day we will be in business. I am still trying too get ahold of Red Cross about maybe having the Blood Mobile there (before everyone gets drunk  ) All bands that are willing too help and Anyone with a PA willing too do the show please let me know.
