It is really getting bad around here. I've lived hear for almost 10 yrs now, coming originally from Osceola Mills. I swore I'd never go back due to the fact that there's not a lot going on up there. After recent events, I can't say I'm not considering moving back up the mountain to the small town I came from. Especially when I consider the safety of my son. It just seems like the drugs are out of control and that alone creates all this other crap like violent crime, theft, break-ins and CAR-JACKINGS?! They keep putting up all these rehabs and shipping the junkies in from Philly, Pittsburgh, etc. I don't know what benefit this has financially in our area cause all I see is an increase in drugs and crime. KEEP YOUR JUNKIES IN YOUR OWN CITIES! How can we all make a stand and re-claim this place before it gets even worse?

I guess this tangent is a little off base. I just needed to vent. This place is getting scary! Condolences to all the familys in this recent tragedy.

Beyond junkies being put here, a judge once explained to me how Altoona is an epicenter of drug activity. Rt. 22 connects across the state and is the major highway for trafficking (spelling???) in this state and for alot of the east coast because of it's accessibility to many heavily populated areas. Altoona is basically on 22.

And my condolences go to everyone involved in this. This kind of shit sucks....big time.

after reading Wed. paper, and listening to the news on tv, something has me very saddened.
We are all talking about Pidilla serving a life sentence or 3 life sentences or even getting the death penalty.
I.C.E. stated that after criminal proceedings, Pidilla will be deported back to Mexico. Can anyone out there tell me what "criminal proceedings" are?
Because according to DA Gorman, he doesnt know.

On a lighter note, I know alot of you in this forum think im an ass, but my heart truly bleeds for the death of these men. I didnt know the prison guard, but Al and Freddie's death has hit my house like a ton of bricks.
If i could say this, it was like hurricane Miguel ran right through Altoona and destroyed paople and the people who loved them.

Well at least Dickey backed down, he did represent Padilla in other cases but was quoted today saying hes not taking the murder case.

If the I.C.E would have done its job, they would still be alive. 15 years! Bullshit!

Seeing how well known and respected Al Mignogna and Fred Rickabaugh (as well as Stephen Heiss) are in our community I doubt ANY local defense attorney in their right mind would represent Padilla.

Its just unbelieveable what they do anymore to people like this. First he was an illegal immigrent, then they said he was legal, because he was married to a US citizen, but then said hes been illegal since he was kid, So an illegal "alien" can come into the US, Kill someone, in a town like this, and all they get is a smack on the hands, and deported.

I've been in this town my whole life ( really sux), I use to live on 6th ave, around 3rd street, Couple stabbings over there, Guy that got his throat sliced right behind our house, Couple fights, House caught on fire right across the street( was found to be arson)... okay so its not a great part of town, Moved with my g/f to beale ave, just a few blocks away from the UVA, and this happens.

Its just not safe to live anywhere anymore in this town...

I guess I'm confused about, is he an illegal alien or not? Noone seems to be sure, but if he wasn't, someone did not do their job the FIRST time he was arrested or investigated for whatever. The authorities in Cresson said (truth?) they reported him to INS and were told he was married and had a work visa. Is it that easy to get a work visa? I know he applied for a marriage liscence, but did he get married? Is he still married? Why does that automatically make one an American citizen anyway? Hmmm...lets see, prior trouble with some kind of domestic disturbance and hanging out at the Palace. He MIGHT not be married. If he is, she should kick his ass back to Mexico. Although I think his punishment here may be worse. And how about the reason for why his Jag wasn't impounded when they found drugs in it (not that it would make any difference in what happened), they said the value of the car was too high. Whaat? And where did this guy work anyway? I have a professional job and drive a 92 Oldsmobile. I-don't-understand....

He is absolutely an illegal alien - and from what the DA explained about deportation - if he is conviced, he would serve out his sentence in the state of PA. If he is not sentenced, it would be up to INS/ICE as to whether to deport him or not. He has already confessed, so I can't imagine how their won't be a conviction.

So if he's illegal, why should our tax dollars pay for this SOB? I say we string him out back and hang his ass from a tree. We have a border problem, Bush needs to wake up on that! What we do is take convicted criminals and throw them down there at the border and every illegal they kill will be one year off of their sentence...make use of them!
