I know what you mean totally, JP! My kids bedrooms FACE the house that was shot at! My 16 yr old and the boy next door were on the porch when it went down. With it being the last weekend of the summer vacation. Alot of kids were cut a break by their parents, who were sitting on their porchs watching the kids playing flashlight tag. Some thought it was them setting setting off fireworks at first. Then the gunman was seen running through yards and right by some of the neighbor kids!Jim Price wrote:The shooting behind the Knickerbocker also concerns me, as that alley is in very close proximity to my workplace! I left the station at 11 on Friday night to head to Peter C's, just before all the action took place.
I agree, the Knick is a nice place, and doesn't deserve scares like that.

My worry is that if this POS can illegally cross the Mexican border, who else can? Our borders are basically useless... there are more than a million illegal aliens in our country, so many in fact, that Mexico's economy would collapse if the borders were sealed. This problem is not new, but we need to shut it down immediately, these little bullsh*t would-be Tony Montana's get the impression they're powerful just by being able to travel with impunity. It's not a big jump to kill.

We are all very saddened and shocked by this senseless crime. What's next? It's just one more nail in the coffin of the "entertainment scene" in our area. (And I use that term loosely.) But after events like this, who will feel safe going out anymore? I can only imagine what his defense will be! Hopefully justice will be served.

hey
It is really getting bad around here. I've lived hear for almost 10 yrs now, coming originally from Osceola Mills. I swore I'd never go back due to the fact that there's not a lot going on up there. After recent events, I can't say I'm not considering moving back up the mountain to the small town I came from. Especially when I consider the safety of my son. It just seems like the drugs are out of control and that alone creates all this other crap like violent crime, theft, break-ins and CAR-JACKINGS?! They keep putting up all these rehabs and shipping the junkies in from Philly, Pittsburgh, etc. I don't know what benefit this has financially in our area cause all I see is an increase in drugs and crime. KEEP YOUR JUNKIES IN YOUR OWN CITIES! How can we all make a stand and re-claim this place before it gets even worse?
I guess this tangent is a little off base. I just needed to vent. This place is getting scary! Condolences to all the familys in this recent tragedy.

Actually John, its over 10 MILLION. Its long past time to shut the border down, but limp wrists in DC are afraid of getting flamed as anti-hispanic by the press and losing their vote. This wasn't an issue here until now. Perhaps heat from non-border/non-hispanic states can finally get them to do something.songsmith wrote:My worry is that if this POS can illegally cross the Mexican border, who else can? ...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
Closing our borders sounds like a good idea, but it is a pipe dream. If someone wants to get into this country bad enough they will get in. There is no way to physically stop them. Legally, our borders ARE closed, that's why they are called illegal aliens. Just hang out near the southern tip of Interstate 5 in San Yisidro, just south of San Diego. After a while there you'll see first hand how unfathomable it is to stop immigrants with walls, checkpoints and desert patrols.
Aliens can easily get jobs here. They work hard for less pay so they make for a very profitable labor force. The amount of money that a corp has to dish out in fines if they hire illegals is usually a mere pittance compared to the money they save by hiring them. If you want to lessen illegal aliens, start slapping those who hire them.
Children of illegals should also be denied US citizenship. I worked with a Mexican in Cali. who would sneak his pregnant wife into the US everytime she was ready to go into labor. They had 3 kids who were all 100% US citizens.

Padilla is represented by Altoona attorney Thomas Dickey.Ive seen Dickey in the UVA numerous times and he was friends with Al, i dont think he will represent this guy.
Did I call that or did I call that?????
Well gee.... so much for Dickey being a good friend! Goes to show what money over friendship means to him. But this is a norm scenrio - scumbag attorney representing scum of the earth. Just like Dickey did when he represented the "scum of the earth" Brandthafer that shoot and killed my uncle back in April 2000 in Huntingdon County. Trust me folks you want to see a Trashy Attorney in action - go to one of his trials! Guess fame does have a price!
Regardless... I completely understand what these families are going through and what they are about to go through. And my HEART goes out to you ALL!!!! It will be very long - drawn out - & painstaking, but with LOTS of LOVE and MEMORIES you will get through it and justice will be served! Promise!
In closing I must say... hopefully someday "what comes around goes around for these murders!"

Yep, its hard to stop with conventional means, but there are sophisticated surveillance technologies recently made available that can go a long way toward policing that 2000 mile border somewhat cost effectively.Ron wrote:Closing our borders sounds like a good idea, but it is a pipe dream. Right now, there is next to nothing being done and they cross with impunity by the tens of thousands every month. With that technology, the key word is "payload" and we would have a tough decision to make: Just how much force are we willing to apply to somebody invading U.S. territory? Would a show of force from out of nowhere deter others from making the same mistake? Think about what do we do when somebody invades our airspace! I think we could significantly cut down the numbers who would risk crossing with some stern measures. Right now, its completely out of control.
Long term, the only way to stop the "demand" is to bring Mexico's standard of living up to a level near ours.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
I must say I've never gotten the chance to know either of the victims, but it is unbelievable that shit like this takes place for what ever reason it maybe. I simply heard it was over that the door man woulden't let him in the door because it was a private club. If that's true my god come on. Why do something so brutal and ruin someone's life and their families as well because of something so stupid. There is how many clubs / bars in the Altoona area. Probally more than I can even count. My thoughts go out to there families. God Bless

I AM SURE IT WAS GOING TO BE ONE OF HIS POINTS OF INTEREST TO DO SOME DRUG DEALING. SOMEONE HAD TO HAVE DIRECTED HIM THERE!!!
THIS KIND OF STUFF IS EVERYWHERE. IT IS JUST MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN IT IS CLOSE TO HOME.
GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES OF THE VICTIMS INVOLVED.
TOO BAD THEY ARE GOING TO WASTE OUR TAX PAYERS DOLLARS FOR A POS LIKE THAT. I AM CURIOUS TO SEE HOW LONG THIS IS DRAWN OUT!

I was at the Knickerbocker Friday night too - we left right around 11:00. It was the first time that I was out in a while. We went there because the atmosphere is nice - no smoke, and just nice to be outside and enjoy the company of friends. I am horrified that within minutes of leaving there, gunshots were fired/heard - it's INSANE.
As Jim Price said, we all like to go out to have a good time - and now you question as to whether it's really worth it - I sometimes worried about being caught in the middle of a fist-fight - hell, bruises heal, gunshot wounds don't.
I think staying home and watching a movie makes more sense...just make sure I lock the front door!
AHHHHGH!!!!!

My thoughts for defending the Mexico border:
Let the Iraqis pull the rags off one another's heads, they're gonna do that anyway, and have since, oh, about the Dark Ages. Station about 100,000 bad-ass mother-effers dressed in various shades of brown along the border, driving around in Humvees... maybe a few of those Predator drones with the guns on board that kill people from a mile away, like zapping ants with a magnifying glass. "Si, Pedro, we are almost to the border... Pedro? Pedro? Como estas?" Suddenly, ponyboy looks like a good career choice.
And don't call me a racist, either... I have a couple of Mexican-American friends. Legal ones, who speak English fluently, and don't tax the welfare system.
Jesus, this cheeses me. --------->JMS

This is unbelievable to have something so barbaric happen in such a small place. I grew up in the Washington DC area and thought that was bad. What is it going to take for the authorities to get this under control? Are we as citizens going to have to always fear leaving our homes? We aren't even safe in our own homes or businesses any more. Our children, families and friends aren't safe.
How did this monster get to our area? Why was he allowed to walk the streets? Let us go to his country and do something so awful, we wouldn't even think about getting a trial. They would kill us on the spot.
My sincerest condolences to the friends and families of Mr. Mignon, Mr. Rickabaugh and Mr. Heiss. May God be with you all!

I couldn't have said it better myself...
Back in Schuylkill County, a few hours from Philly, where I was born and raised, random, senseless murders, even shoot outs with police leaving several dead (The latter was hard drug related, not that it made it more acceptable.), have happened in very small towns...sometimes "you can't go home again". But, what is the solution? Should we all carry a gun...then this would happen more often...(I used to, back in the mid 80s, a cute little .38 Special, with Hollow Points I'd bought in VA.) Justice WILL be served, there is no doubt in this case. My heart goes out to anyone suffering this terrible loss.
Peace,
YankeeRose

The fact that this "being" is in our country illegally doesn't surprise me.
It pisses me off though that persons in a position to do something about it
(or at least allegedly) have missed the boat and done zip! I have been to Mexico and other countries and understand why they come to the U.S.
Hey, they can support nearly a whole family by sending money back to their country to support them ( many on minimum wages). What do they have to lose if they get caught? This "being" (and I use the term lightly)
should have been gone long ago; and Al, Fred, and Mr. Heiss would now
be alive! I hope justice is served!!!!
Vigilante justice only brings more vigilante retaliation, but boy sometimes it would make the victims families feel better.
It frightens me that a community which I have lived in for more than half my life has come to this stage of violence. People need to get their F$#%#^g shit together.
As per my previous statement about reasons to come here, this
"being" obviously isn't here for legitimate work related reasons , or
to legitimately support his family. If he is, show the proof!
Maybe drugs? Hum?!
RIP gentlemen, and may God be with your loved ones in this time of tragedy!

Mr Heiss was a prison guard in Huntington where my next door neighbor worked with him....somehow i don't think this FUKKER's stay in jail, wherever it may be, is going to be very pleasant.
they say this kid has an extensive criminal record...did they just find out he was an illegal immigrant....what the fukk was he doing roaming our streets?????
my thoughts are with the 3 victims & thier families.

The only peace in all of this is that Padilla will spend the rest of his life in jail, or possibly get the death penalty if premeditation can be proven. With such a high profile case, I pray the DA does everything possible to go for the death penalty. Sadly, regardless of the sentence, it will not change the outcome of this horrid tragedy.

That's a lovely sentiment. This jerk will get a death sentence whether or not some moron jumps to defend him. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
