Question for the drummers about cymbals

I have a cymbal (zildjian 18" med crash) i just noticed it has a rattle sound to it almost like there is a rivit in it. I checked it out and don't see any sort of break of any kind. (i need to really look it over tho) Out of 22 years of playing Zildjians i have never noticed this. Anyone ever run across this? Might it be heat expansion etc etc ????

Do you have a rubber / plastic sleeve on the post of the cymbal stand? It might be vibrating against it.

It still does it when i just hold the cymbal on my finger and hit it. So i took out that option. Thanks tho.

Sounds to me like th cymbal is cracked. If it's a lathed model (Zildjian A or K line), there is probably a crack along the lathe lines of the cymbal somewhere. Best way to check is to hold it up against a bright light and look carefully in between all the lathe lines.

Also, is the rattle just from being mounted on a stand, or does it rattle when you hold it and strike it? Hold a drumstick in your hand and put the cymbal on it, like the stick is a cymbal stand. Strike it. If you still hear the rattle, the cymbal does indeed have a crack somewhere. If not, then you most likely have some loose fittings somewhere in your hardware.

Yeah it still rattles when i take the stand away so i know it's not that. I have looked over the lines and i just can't find and break anywhere. I tell you what in my 22 years of playing i have never come across this. It sounds like there is one rivit in it. I have a feeling it is a small crack somewhere......i just can't find it. Bizzare well thanks i just wanted to see if anyone else has ever come across this.
