Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the June 15 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.
This year for Father's Day, we did a first-time special on the "Backyard Rocker." On the "Fathers & Sons/Daughters of Local Music Special," we celebrated some of the dads who play or have played music on this area's music scene, and their children who are currently playing music. We celebrated such dad/kid pairings as the Altoona area's own "Osbornes," dad Don and son Sean; Dewayne and John McKnight, the Servello Family, Jeff & Ryan Clapper, Rick and Eric Wertz, Bill and Shawn Hocherl, Jim and Jay Mosey, the Hale Family (Halestorm) and more.
In addition, we were joined in the studio by two prominent area music scene dads - acoustic duo Not Them Guys, singer Steve Shiffler and guitarist Jim High - and their kids, Autumn Shiffler and Jake High. Showcasing Autumn's excellent voice, Not Them Guys performed unplugged pop and country selections. Along the way, we broke out archive footage of "The Business" by Xeno (featuring dad Rick Wertz), recorded live in 1983 at Altoona's Varsity Lounge. Celebrating area music family tradition, it was a fun two hours!

This Sunday night, June 22, we put the spotlight on the Blair County Collective. Formed in response to the recent PLCB "chaperone law" controversy, the Collective is an association of area musicians united to help improve various aspects of the Altoona area music scene. The Blair County Collective recently obtained a facility to stage all ages shows, and is in the process of organizing a fanzine, compilation CD, a benefit concert for the American Cancer Society in August, and more. We'll hear music from member bands of the Collective, and learn about the organization and its future plans. The Blair County Collective on the "Backyard Rocker," this Sunday night!
