hello haters, im back in black and its friday. any good shows coming up this weekend? probably not.
how much do bars around here pay for gigs? $15.....$20.......$30?
with the booming economy around here, i think it may be close to $32.
youre right, i wanna make sure i can play those bars.
i would like to meet some of you rockpagers, though. altoona is only 20 mins or so from here. we can talk music. anyone?????

BloodEmpire,
Check the main page and click the "show schedule" link. That's a listing of all the shows that Rockpage member bands have coming up. You're bound to find something there.
And as far as pay goes, it depends on how good you are and how you draw. What you make is up to you. We've all played for nothing, and we've all made good money, too.
Just don't start being ignorant again. I've tried to reply in a civil tone, and hope that you do the same. Cheers!

Money
Hey Blood- before I had the band I played acoustic. Work during the day and played at night. Payed my bills, and child support. I played Water Front Tavern in Lewistown, J's tavern in Huntingdon, Pa and places here and there. Most places payed cash some were checks anywhere from $100.00 - 150.00 a night. Now I am married and my wife and I make enough for 3 house holds. Back then I live off of beer, eggs and can food, also creatine. I am thinking about playing acousic again. Do not give up a word from some one who has done it.

like ive said before, i couldnt force myself to do an acoustic show. i like playing acoustic every once in a while.
acoustic shows just dont do it for me at all. I need that live raw energy. i wouldnt be able to take myself seriously if i did an acoustic show. not everything is about money i believe , but money is good. id rather make $15 making people's ears bleed and head hurt, then $500 sitting on a stool playing a martin. Thats just my opinion, and i know how my opinion isnt liked. i was explained the scene in detail yesterday. i really misjudged the whole thing. i thought original music would be supported. i mean, how hard is it to play a set of other peoples songs? all the work is done. takes no creativity whatsoever. im not "bashing" anyone, just my opinion.
im not looking to be recognized in PA, because i dont care. im not looking to make millions, 'cause i dont care. i just wanna create awesome metal soundscapes that either annoy people or make them happy. i went to a buddy's bands last show lastnight. Stik Figure from frederick. they rocked, except their jackass singer. anyway, i ran into alot of old friends down there, so im no longer tapping rockpage for a drummer. i even got a free section 101 ticket to ozzfest which im not gonna use.
now THATS fuckin metal

Well, first of all...you are on here looking for musicians to play with, and then saying how you don't care if you make people's ears bleed and heads hurt. Not a good way to find good musicians...Personally, I like to entertain and have fun, people have a good time and in turn, you get paid to play your chosen instrument. If you want to be a serious musician, then you should try to please your crowd first off, in most cases you can have fun doing so, especially when people are dancing on a packed floor. Now, you can go play your brand of "crap" metal, be half assed, piss people off, make 10 bucks and work at Taco Bell the rest of your life if you want. That's your choice, I never said there was anything wrong with that, but you do have a lot to learn about music in general. That's just my opinion. How old are you anyway? What do you know about making it? I can guarantee that you just don't go playing crap and a record company just picks you up...and if they ever did pick you up, they would criticize your music and make you play stuff that you don't want to, and then I suppose you would walk because you have more pride than that...but seriously, it's cool that you play music that you like, because you like it. Good luck in finding musicians that agree with your ideas.
Oh and by the way, I am god, and I am world reknowned....just ask anyone!
How does it make me a communist when I just make a simple observation?

i love you Punkinhead! you get it! why doesnt anyone else?? of course thats what us metal dudes wanna do. metal isnt for the mainstream. thats what cover bands are for. im going for a specific crowd, not the one that flocks to top 40 junk and dancing on a floor. if anyone is on the floor, they should be getting crushed. its called a "mosh pit", but i wouldnt expect you to know this rob. you know anything about metal. you probably consider poison and bon jovi to be metal.
now understand this: metal is NOT for the mainstream. if you like 3 doors down and creed, you will HATE metal. and in turn, metal hates you.

*looks at CD collection*
Hmm, I don't have any Three Doors Down, but I do have some Creed albums.
*looks at CD collection further*
Hey, here are my Testament, Slayer, Nevermore, Atheist, Entombed, Iced Earth, Desultory, Sentenced, Inner Thought, and Broken Hope CDs.
Man, all love all these metal albums, but my street cred is zilch because I also like Creed and Three Doors Down. Even my old school thrash collection with rare stuff like At War and Indestroy doesn't help.

Here we go again, you don't know this and you don't know that. Let the dude go about his merry way and find the musicians he's looking for. It's appearant he is not going to find them round here. Metal is so hard to promote and sell in this area. Different strokes for different folks, at least that was what I was told. I absolutley love playing in the band I am in now. I know we are going to start writing soon, but we wanted to have a following first, then present your creation, and See how people take it. My old band Way Down East wrote killer music, but we lacked getting a following. The covers we did learn nobody knew, and they didn't care. That being said bloodempire good luck on finding what your looking for, I wish you nothing but the best. The rest of the Central Pa Community are doing what they need to in order to make themselves happy, you need to do the same.
Now on a lighter note
Who is your favorite metal band?
Be it thrash, hardcore, screamcore, or whatever. The people want to know.
I would say Slayer, Testament, Obituary, Six feet under.
SATAN B.B.S.

Type O is my 2nd favorite of all time, AC/DC is my first. Sorry can't completely get rid of my rock heritage. I am surprised you metioned Carnivore, not a real popular band but kicked ass none the less. WHo would have thought back then the remnents of Carnivore would have turned into the drab four. Just in case you didn't know about two years they re-released both Carnivore albums on 1 cd.

Let's turn this thread into a favorite metal band thread:
Here are mine:
Black - Emporer
Death - Cryptopsy
Melodic Death - Arch Enemy
Thrash - Slayer
Goth/Doom - eh, I guess Type O Negative but, I'm not sure if they are still in this category
Hair - Skid Row
Nu - none, don't put any for this, it doesn't count. It's only purpose here is so that I can rag it.
Metalcore - perhaps Shadows Fall - not the greatest band but I dig the guitar work
Straight Metal - Black Label Society/Pantera (tie)

Metal is the attitude man. And splitting skulls and being as loud and violent as possible is what it's about for most people among other things. Attitude reigns all when it comes to metal. At least to me...but, to each their own. As the attitude goes I like it for my reasons. All else matters little in my head.RobTheDrummer wrote:Metal isn't about that...at least in my perspective...

Black - I never cared much for Black Metal, but if I had to pick a band: Old Man's Child
Death - Athiest
Melodic Death - Desultory (one of the few melodic death metal bands that doesn't just sound like another Gothenburg band.)
Thrash - Testament
Goth/Doom - I love this genre, so it's hard for me to pick an absolute favorite. I like Type O, Moonspell, the Gathering, Candlemass, Cathedral, Katatonia, Sentenced, Corrison of Conformity, and Theatre of Tragedy, oh how I love Theatre of Tragedy.
Hair - Extreme (though to be fair, I always thought that Extreme was unfairly clumped in with hair metal. I always thought that they were miles ahead of their peers)
Nu - Mudvayne
Metalcore - Skinlab
Straight Metal - Voivod - Actually I don't know what kind of Metal Voivod is. All I know is that they kick ass.
And a few more categories:
Stoner - Kyuss
Power - Hollow followed by Blind Guardian
NWOBM - Diamond Head
Industrial - Ministry's later stuff
Prog - Spastic Ink
Death - Athiest
Melodic Death - Desultory (one of the few melodic death metal bands that doesn't just sound like another Gothenburg band.)

Punkinhead, I agree that Metal is attitude. I grew up with metal and I still love metal. When metal feeds into aggresion of the fans, that's fine, that's what the pit is for. When it makes peoples ears bleed and gives them headaches because it's noise, that's different.
Anyway, some of my favorite metal bands include: Pantera(all time favorite), Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Soil, Tool(not really metal), Dream Theater(prog metal), Ozzy, Disturbed, Metallica, Megadeth, Fear Factory, Machine Head, Steve Vai(somewhat metal), Ring of Fire, Coinmonster, Testament(especially "Low"), Puya, Meshuggah, SLIPKNOT, System of a Down, Early Staind, mudvayne, Static X...there are a lot more even, yet I don't know anything about any of these bands according to Blood Empire...and I'm only 23 years old, stop saying I'm old! I've just done a lot of stuff in the time that i've been playing.
I've played Metal to Pop to Rap to Hip Hop to Dance to well...you get the point. You really gotta have your shit together to make it doing only what you want to do....take a look at the Nightcrawlers. Saw them at Pellies Sunday, they are different, not a lot of demand for what they do in a dance type setting, but they get attention and people dug them because they are so talented and they pull off every tune smoothly. One of the best original acts I've seen in a long time. They demand attention because they are so good at what they do. They don't make people's ears bleed...
