The Man-Hug.

Post by songsmith »

Some say it's the new handshake. I hope not.
First, I am not averse to hugging, per se. Especially if some female boobies are sandwiched in between the huggers.
Next, I'm okay with hugging men. I'm pretty secure with stuff like that. I have no problem with "bringing it in" and hugging an old friend, indeed I do that often.
Here's the rub: As musicians, you are all exposed to about a million variations of the drunken handshake on a Saturday night, from a screwed up soul-brutha deal that has numerous choreographed moves you never really get, to the dude who hangs on waaaay too long to force you to talk to him, to the he-man who tries to turn your phalanges to bone dust to show his he-manliness, to the Jagerbomber who uses your hand to hold himself upright. People, PLEASE do not introduce hugging into this!
Fella's, if you hug me, we better be buds. Ladies, feel free to hug all ya want, but remember, men just LOVE snoobs pressed against their chests. Don't be offended by biology.

What say you?------->JMS

95% of the time I include the half hug with my handshake meaning as I shake the hand I draw 1 shoulder close for a bump if you will, understand this only happens with friends NOT new acquaints or drunk hebrew speaking bar patrons that I've never met. And yes I too will always go for the female hug I love TITS !
I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood

I say...

Bring on the snoobs, and leave out the dudes!

Actually, I know what you are talking about, John. I don't see a problem with dishing out some hugs, so long as they are not like what you described (except the snoobs, bring on the snoobs!....god, I love that word, ...snoob)

So, ...breastities, yes please!

Men! I feel that "hugs are good for the Soul" and it has not a single thing to do with "snoobs" or
any other particular body part. :)

The half hug... I get it now... perhaps I'm just too demonstrative, and assume I should do the whole hug thing. No wonder it seems so uncomfortable. :?
Yankee Rose, again girl, it's biology. Men love boobs. My libido is as much hormonal and natural as your monthly, and I don't hear women apologizing for that, in fact, we fella's just have to accept it. Fair is fair. :) --------->JMS

I'm secure about hugging guys, but I have to have a friendship with them for a while. When it comes to women, I prefer to hug them when I'm sitting down... ( . Y . )

Not much of a fan of the man hug I must say. Not anything about homophobia, more of a claustrophobia thing. I have an omnidirectional space around me of about 3 feet that I cannot stand anyone to be in. Usually when you see me talking it always seems like I'm backing up...well, because I am.

On an odd note...at a show in Pittsburgh I had a dude who asked to just touch my hands. I had to turn that one down....

I don't blame you on that one. I mighy have done it if he followed it up with "because of the shredding genius the produce", but if he just wanted to touch them...erm, no.

All this man hugging is the Sopranos' fault. They're always hugging with the slaps on the back.

5 slaps for a relative.
3 slaps for a best friend.
1 slap....concrete shoes...cyanide....tnt

Johnny, maybe they're Free Masons and they're trying to give you the secret handshake to see if you're also a member.

It seems like the more drunk people get, the less respecting of personal space they are.

No kidding. They want to be one inch from your nose while shouting and spraying at a level that is good for when the music is still on.

Hugs don't bother me. Actually, I'm a hugger by nature. The first two times I meet you, sure..hand shakes... what not...but then after that you're hugged. Unless you say you don't wanna. Then that's fine. Girls have to get the lean on in hugs because the double set of snoobers get in the way. I think it's cool to watch guys hug. ::shrugs:: I don't know how a hug got considered "gay"...I mean, honestly. For all you porn watchers out there...you see more guys and girls getting it on...but I bet you don't cover your eyes when the guy whips it out to stick it in her...Oooh, you're looking at a penis...does that make you gay? Nah. Neither does a hug. The classic shoulder bump, hand grasp, shoulder thunk is cool to watch. And the full fledged, both armed, c'mere you hug is cool too...cuz you know the people are close. Now, if the other guy starts stroking your back and grabbing your tush, then I'd worry...

Hugs are all right for real close friends who maybe have'nt seen each other in along time or boxers who just beat the shit out of one another! Of course the female hug is cool as long as your woman doesn't mind, which is my case! Why do baseball & football players swat one an other on the ass after a good play has been made? That's real gay if ya ask me! I'm more of the hand shake with the pull in shoulder bump (if I know ya) kinda guy but, if I'm just meet'n ya or gett'n to know ya ,a simple hand shake is good! I think also you can sort of tell what kinda person someone is by their way of greet'n ya. That's just my opinion though! :D
A person is getting along the road to wisdom when they begin to realize that their opinion is just another opinion !
