BACKYARD ROCKER 6/1/03

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 1 edition of Q94's weekly local music program, "The Backyard Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WBRX 94.3 and WBXQ 94.7.

Thanks to Driven for appearing on the show, and acquainting our listeners with their brand of hard hitting, old-meets-new-school metal! We heard numerous tracks from Driven's CD "Incoherent Thoughts," and lucky listeners won copies of the CD, stickers, and tickets to Driven's June 20 show at Peter C's! In addition, we premiered a lot of new music this week, including new songs from Keystone All Stars, Poker Face, Spring Drive, Funny Money, Nevermoure, Destroy Elroy and D-Cell. In all, a busy, hard-rocking two hours!

This week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CHOCO SAM – “Jack Slick”
KEYSTONE ALL STARS – “Once…And Young”
DRIVEN – “Chaos & Rock & Roll”
POKER FACE – “Break the Control”
DRIVEN – “Thunder God”
SHERRI MULLEN – “Home of The Free”
DRIVEN – “Primal Fear”
SPRING DRIVE – “Be Careful”

HOUR TWO:

FUNNY MONEY – “Funny Money”
NEVERMOURE – “The American Teenage Anthem”
DRIVEN – “Breaking Free”
DESTROY ELROY – “The Song That Never Was”
DRIVEN – “Annihilation/Columbine”
D-CELL – “All I Am”
DRIVEN – “Sheep With Guns”
DEVIANCE – “Save Me”
DRIVEN – “Rotting Away”

This Sunday night, June 8, we welcome into the studio one of the most talked-about indie bands out of Pittsburgh these days, Tangerine. We'll hear tracks from Tangerine's debut CD, plus listeners will have chances to win a copy! In addition, we'll get better acquainted with the band and their music, plus discuss their career and travels as they take their music from coast to coast, and into Canada too! Tangerine visits the "Backyard Rocker" this Sunday night!

Then on June 15, for Father's Day, we're attempting a new special on the "Backyard Rocker," the "Fathers & Sons/Daughters of Local Music" Special. We will spotlight the musical family traditions of area music; parents and their kids who are both making music on the area's scene! We'll hear from such fathers and sons as Rick Wertz (ex-Xeno/U.S. Sound Theatre) and son Eric (Choco Sam), Bill and Shawn Hocherl (Nevermoure), Jeff Clapper (The Hurricanes) and son Ryan, father Dave and daughter Christa Cherry (Big Daddy & Baby Blue Eyes), father Roger and kids Lzzy and Arejay Hale (Halestorm) and many more! If you have any musical parents/kids combos you would like to suggest for the program, feel free to email me at profjp@wbxq.com with those suggestions.
