Stev Vai - At The Astoria .. Anyone see this ??

Post by f.sciarrillo »

I downloaded this video and watched it. It's an old one, from 2001 I think. Anyway, I can not believe he stuff the guy can do. He blow me away with some of the stuff. There is one part where he dances around the stage for about five minutes while maintaining total sustain on his guitar. I can't get he does it. Not to mention some of the techniques he has, Sweep harmonicas, playing with one hand, rubbing his hands up and down the kneck while make a sweep sounds, licking his fingers and making ringing tones. Simply amazing ..

I tell you some of the things he did was amazing. He is deff a good technical player. Still not my favorite though. As I think Satch and Lynch are better. Vai is still awesome though ..

Yet I will say that at the last G3 tour, Vai did impress us more than Satriani. I'll take flak for this, but actually I enjoyed Ywengwie (sp?) the best of the three!

I own the DVD and it is amazing to say the least.
I really like the old stuff he does with Billy Sheehan.
How about Billy singing Shyboy.

BTW Does anyone think that Malmsteen looks kind of like Ann Wilson from Heart on the G3 Live in Denver DVD? All chubby with big hair.
Especially when he's wearing the trenchcoat.

Great DVD, I reccomend it because it has: Steve Vai, Tony McAlpine, Billy Sheehan, Virgil Donati, and Steve's other guitarist Dave Weiner...great line up, great quality. One hell of a DVD!

Dave Weiner is another PA native. He's originally from Reading.

He has health problems...he has to take some kind of gold treatment or something that causes weight gain. Something is messed up in his wrists I believe and he needs the treatments for pain. At least that's what I've heard from a reliable source.

Having said that:

If I was that big, I would put some damn clothes on. I wanted to see him play guitar...I didn't care for the huge hairy gut hanging over it...lol
