Where's the Rush? Where are the monkeys? Where is Elvis?
How could sprinsteen tie with CCR? There is no tie there?
WHO compiled this list and when are we re writing it to send it back to USA today?

My source of this info was my morning showprep, they omitted that it was American bands, so it wasn't the drummer that screwed up.
But still...Fleetwood Mac is NOT an American band, some of the members are from England.
And if it is American bands, where's Mother Love Bone? Ted Nugent? .38 Special? Soundgarden? Molly Hatchet? Iggy Pop? And since he's played on many rock stations, where the hell is Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dammit????
And even though I hate Nirvana, I have to respectfully disagree with J Michaels, there is no way that they should be ranked 17 spots below Pearl Jam. Nirvana was for the masses, the most influential band of the last 20 years, hands down. I should know, that damn debut album killed my shot at making it big, LOL!

SRV, Ted Nugent, and .38 Special should have been on that list. The only reasoning for SRV not bein on the list is that he didnt have as many albums out as most of the others, but he made up for lack of albums by having so many hits. I agree, he should have been on that list. Of course, this isnt top 20 guitarists either, otherwise, he would be at the top of that list.ToonaRockGuy wrote:

And, who the hell are the Replacements anyway? Ive never heard of them.
Maybe SRV and the Nuge missed out because they are seen as "solo artists". Because if you go by solo artists, where the heck is Elvis?? I'm guessing that Springsteen got in as "Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band", instead of as one guy. (Which still isn't fair. SRV had Double Trouble, Iggy had the Stooges, and so on.)
The Beach Boys ought to be higher. Not my favorite band, but their popularity and talent were enormous. Holy frickin' harmonies, Batman!
The Replacements were part of the big Minneapolis scene in the 80s-early 90s. The singer and songwriter, Paul Westerburg, is a fairly well-known guy. They did ramshackle garage rock with occasionally brilliant songwriting. Nobody ever bought their records, but critics and college-rock musicians worship them. Modern pop-punk sounds kind of like the Replacements polished up for mass consumption.

Speaking of Fleetwood Mac and Santana - I remember arguing for ten minutes with this older burned out guy that Black Magic Women was originally a Fleetwood Mac song, not Santana. I still don't think he ever believed me.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
So it's American bands only, ....alright that makes this list a little less lame but not by much....
Where's Bob Seager and the Silver Bullet Band? Where's Buffalo Springfield? Where's Bill Haley and the Comets, Buddy Holly and the Crickets (The original 2 guitar, bass and drums band might I add)
Where's Alice in Chains, Soundgarten, there are 6 bands right there that belong on that list before Bon Jovi
Where's Grand Funk Railroad?
How about Alice Cooper? That was the name of the band before ol Vince changed his name
Where's Boston? (not my fave but, very influential)
Where are the Byrds
Where is the hell is ZZ Top I mean c'mon?
Where is the James Gang, is there a guitarist here who hasn't messed around with the riff to funk#49?
You could make the argument that because Carlos wasn't born here Santana isn't an American band but they got their start with Bill Graham in the bay area back in the day and that's American enough for me
BTW Yes, Black Magic Woman is a Peter Green song (old school Fleetwood Mac) but if you include FM as an American band then ya gotta include Carlos
Yea, it's nice to see The Eagles, and Creedence and The Ramones get some of the credit they are due, but Pearl Jam? At least it wasn't Poison

That's what it is, plain and simple...a bunch of suits trying to speak for all of America? BULL! Everyone has their own favorites and I can understand what many are getting at: if it was a Heavy Metal list, as much as I love Journey, I have to admit they likely wouldn't make it, nor would The Allman Brothers, Skynyrd or The Eagles, probably one of my musical and lyrical all time favorites. (For instance, "The Last Resort", a priceless tune.) I regret I've never been able to see them...but
there's still hope, I guess and I'll never get to see Journey, the REAL Journey, with Steve Perry. I agree, way too many Classic American bands and musicians are missing and as for REM? To borrow from a deserving group, "Nevermind"! Godsmack would get a vote way over REM for me. But that's just MY opinion and don't forget what's said about those!

Amen, sistah, to adding BOTH to The List! CSN&Y, in any and all amalgamations...and who cares if Carlos wasn't born here...maybe he's a Naturalized Citizen, like my Scottish paternal great-grandfather "A." eventually became. Besides, just one of my fav tunes of his I can't hear enough of is a live version recorded on my 15th birthday in California, "USA"...and that's good enough for me!

Peace,

Vin, you have just been stung by the acserbic wit of the old G-Funk (Jimi Hatt). Don't be embarrassed. He passed through a radioactive field on his way here to Earth, and it warped his sense of humor. He's one of those guys you have to really pay close attention to, he can deadpan little zingers that'll kill ya.

You'll have to forgive me, We live in a place where a lady once tried to compliment my Blues band my stating that she liked us cause we "don't play no nigger music" (her exact words, I swear it)
so the idea of someone thinking that a band who puts out a song called "We're an American Band" might not be an American band ain't all that far-fetched.
No one has ever gone broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American Public - Business Proverb

Duuuude, this is like, getting old...didn't you read through the thread? "American bands", 'kay?
BUT, since you mention them, I just can't shut up about it any longer..."The New Yardbirds", they were later better known as Led Zeppelin - got together on July 07, was it '68 and also played for the last time on that date. It's mi madre's birthday, so it's easy to remember the date, the years are what do me in. WHERE was the mention of those important Anniversaries?
A future GREAT American Band? I absolutely LOVE "Tomas and the Tornadoes"! (No Einstein, it's not a typo. I'll tell you all later.) Muchas, MUCHAS Gracias, mi Amigos!

no surrender, I'm almost afraid to admit this, but I pretty much agree with your critique...Pearl Jam, like them, but I can never understand a word he's saying.
Gotta love those lyrics sites AND the parodies on SNL! While my YankeeRose name is more a statement of my ancestors' Civil War ties, "Van Halen", the first Album or 8 Track
, is now a Classic "must have" CD. I do sort of like the song, too!
Allman Brothers Band deserves a bit more respect, they're still contributing "some great stuff" - have you seen the ABB recently? Fleetwood Mac is awesome, but "Hypnotized" was before "her" time, wasn't it? You're right ON about Skynyrd, I saw them last year and my sister just saw them again in NJ a few weeks ago. I know some have said otherwise to me, but unless they've seen them recently, they really have no idea how much they DO still KICK SOME MAJOR ASS! I really like several Bon Jovi songs, but I said "I'll sleep when I'm dead" LONG before they came out with the song! I don't own any, have no desire to (SORRY, Sandy!) and have never seen the big whoop. See what I mean? "Scary"!
So MANY more belong on The List and so little brains are in the ones who made up the original list!
Peace,
YankeeRose
