Alright - who saw it? ( I did. )

What did you think? (Mixed feelings.)

WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILER CONTENT!!!!!

MINUSES:
• Anakin succumbed to the Emperor’s pressure to convert way too easily,
• Not enough Darth Vader in "the suit,"
• Mace Windu was felled too easily, should've been a longer battle,
• No young Han Solo scene (although the Millenium Falcon was shown early in the film ... was Lando piloting?),
• Don't like the R2-D2 flying mode,
• Chewbacca: Not prominent enough. What was the point?
• Padme, who was a strong woman in I and II, just said screw it and died.

PLUSES:
• Action scenes (lightsaber duels and dog fights) were plentiful, impressive and intense,
• The "vanishing dead Jedi" thing from the original trilogy was explained (thanx, George, thought he'd skip over that one),
• Anakin's defeat scene was awesome and perfectly explained the need for "the suit",
• Ewan McGregor IS Obi-wan Kenobi ... one bad ass mutha-fukka,
• Tied in well to Episode IV,
• The love story did not get too sappy,
• NO JAR JAR BINKS DIALOG!

All in all, A great movie I thought. Better than I, II and VI, I'd have to rank it third behind "Empire," my personal favorite, and "A New Hope," my second favorite.

YEah.. if kwain jin (however you spelled it) figured it out, then why did his body still lay on the floor when ob1's disappeared in episode IV?

My thoughts... movie wasn't bad but it was a big let down. I agree about Pad. She was strong for two movies, then was all prissy and helpless.
Did like her timing on death and vadors "birth"
The rest of it...well.. it just... sucked until the last half hour.

People were saying that this movie was as good as A New Hope...wrong. I think it's a bit over hyped. I loved, it, but I was going in expecting soooo much more. The PG-13 rating...bogus...not needed. It was given the PG-13 for the "younglings scene"...we knew what happened, but nothing was shown. The Vader/lava scen was the other reason for the PG-13...man on fire missing two legs and an arm...hmmm...not that bad. I was upset at the lack of Chewy...if it wasn't for Yoda thanking Tarful and Chewy, many people might just think that he's another wookie. General Grievous was more pathetic than Darth Maul...this schlub dies pretty easy. I was also expecting some Boba Fett action...bring us to speed on his career.

Do you realize that there is about an 18-20 year gap in between this recent movie and A New Hope?! There is sooooo much story line that will never be told on the big screen...Han and Chewy meeting up, why is Boba Fett after Han so much, the years of Lei and Luke, the Vader years...they did tie the early stages of the Death Star in at the end...nice! Why not rebuild the Jedi council and the "Jedi" altogether. Yoda and Obi-Wan throw in the towel and go into hiding. Wouldn't that mean that they are follwing the Sith path or only looking out for themselves...rebuild and look out for other. If it weren't for Luke being curious (EP IV)...the Sith would have taken over completely and forever. Yoda and Ben had NO intention of trying to take the Sith out later in life.
Those two were willing to let the Sith rein over all.

Anotehr thing that gets me...remember the holographic scene at the end of Jedi...Anakin, Yoda, and Ben? That Anakin was old and in a Jedi cloak. Well, Anakin never makes it to be old and look like that...his face damn near melted off and an early age. Wouldn't his spirit look like the bald old man that he was due to the lava accident? Anyway...too many what ifs and I wonders...there needs to be another movie to better tie EP III and EP IV together.

In my opinion...this movie doesn't really tie that much together like people said that it would. All that it really did is last over two hours before showing us how Vader really got to be who we all knew that he was...part man/part machine.

I would give the movie a "B"...It left me wanting more and seeking more story line that seems more important that what was actually told.

Actually Jay, it's been 28 years! I saw "A New Hope" when it was released in '77.

I think it's impossible to tie III and IV together seamlessly. Too many discrepancies, like how they devolve from using robot armies to using only human soldiers.

They fixed that though...in the re-release of Episodes 4, 5, 6. At the end of the 6th, when the Ewok's are having their party, and Obi Wan, Yoda, and Anakin are standing there, it's Hayden's hologram, not the old guys that appeared in the original version.

I thought it was a great movie that did a pretty good job of explaining most things. There's no way that Lucas could appease everybody. I think that Episodes IV and V have been placed at a mythic level over the years. Rightly or wrongly there is no way for any new Star Wars movie to compare with them in a lot of people's minds. I don't think you can compare the original trilogy with the prequals. Its apples and oranges.

Ron...I know that it's 28 years total in actual years. I meant 18-20 from the time Luke and Lei are born until we first get introduced to them in EP IV. I meant that there is about 18+ years of story line that need to be told.

Doh! Sorry Jay, I should have read your post more better.

3A17, you're right on the money. I saw ep. IV when it first came out, and I sort of lost interest after ep. VI turned into a commercial juggernaut. I was really dissapointed in ep. VI because I was old enough to realize that the whole thing was starting to turn to the commercial dark side, and I had loved ep. IV so much that it pissed me off.

It may have screwed me, but before ep. V was released, I read a rip-off novel based on Lucas' work called "Splinter of the Mind's Eye", that I thought was far better than ep. V. I guess I was expecting something different.

EP III has overtaken EP IV as my favorite. Action & FX blew all the others away. The storyline was intriguing because it tied everything together. Unfortunately, I had already figured out the chancellor in EPII. I wonder if Yoda needs a guitar player?

The only thing I keep wondering is why Hollywood keeps casting relatively small-sized actors in big parts... (Brad Pitt as Achilles? Give me a break.)

I think this is the first one that I paid to go see. In the summer of '77, we watched EP IV endless times from the "bank" of the 764 Drive-in in Duncansville, always twisting them up and pounding cold ones. What could you expect, about 1-1/2 years earlier, we started the band "Forces". Nothing like a little PR help.

I just saw it and thought it tied everything together well. If you use some thinking about it, you can see why pretty much everything started the way it did in Episode IV. I think also Lucas did leave some room for you to "fill in the gaps" in your own manner (kind of akin to Chopin only writing a prelude and letting your own thinking conjure up the rest of the song, if you felt so compelled to do so).

Overall, I liked it. At some times I didn't but, I doubt that I've ever sat through a fiction movie and not had points where I didn't like it.

it was cool to see it all tie together, i agree with the comments about anakin giving in too easily and going against padme, after all that was the reason he was doing all this in the first place?! as far as killing the younglings i believe that was necessary to make us see how evil darth had become.special effects and sound effects were awesome, overall i give it two thumbs up!

I was satisfied by the movie. I need to see it again.

I dunno if it could stand alone... I guess it could... I had to explain a little back story to my girlfriend who is not a Sci Fi fan and hasn't seen I or II, but she says that she really enjoyed it. I think I've had her watch IV & VI with me, so she is familiar w/ Darth Vader, the Emporer, and all that jazz...

Vader screaming "nooo" wfter asking about Pademe was cheezier than a dairy farm in Wisconsin.
